oafitupa··on Stellar
Except it's premined and centralized. It's "stable" until its creator decides to dump, like they did with Ripple.
oafitupa··on Stellar
Well it's premined and centralized, so I would say it's just like any pre-Bitcoin coin/exchange.
oafitupa··on Stellar
It's a fork of Ripple, lol.

oafitupa··on Stellar
Nothing, it's just a fork of Ripple.

oafitupa··on Stellar
Stellar is just a fork of Ripple:

oafitupa··on Stellar
I'm sorry but this is not "great stuff", it's just a fork of Ripple:

oafitupa··on Stellar
Yep, just another premined coin to the list, and as it turns out it's a fork of Ripple. Everyone here should read this comment:

oafitupa··on The ship that failed to change the world
Of course a "large enough" railgun could be a WMD, but they aren't large enough, so they are not WMD.
oafitupa··on What are the practical steps for monetizing a web service?
Just use Bitcoin. If you don't know how to, then just use BitPay, which today has announced a free forever plan, so it's a no-brainer.
oafitupa··on Emacs and Vim
It could be argued that they also cost a lifetime to learn. With normal, full blown editors (eg: editors that require Java) I get a ton of intuitive functionality for free, and I can start using it right away.
oafitupa··on Emacs and Vim
"They also can run in a remote console which for me is reason alone not to use another editor."

As a developer, that makes no sense to me. Do you really need a powerful remote editor? What do you need a remote editor for, other than checking that a config file was set up correctly, or reading a log file?

oafitupa··on The ship that failed to change the world
The railgun isn't quite a WMD though, is it?
oafitupa··on Bitcoin: the Stripe perspective
Agreed. The people who say that don't understand that something that Bitcoin got right (though it can be improved) are the incentives. People looking after their own self-interest will make Bitcoin work. That's why all those clones that tried to remove the currency part failed horribly. Eg: "It's like Bitcoin's blockchain, but for a social network!".
oafitupa··on What Is a Bitcoin, Really?
I'll take the deflationary one, ty.
oafitupa··on A Billionaire Mathematician’s Life of Ferocious Curiosity
Actually it's very common. Try arguing with a soldier. Those guys are brainwashed into believing that the military helped humanity move forward technologically, as if spending that money directly in research (without the bombings, the deaths of millions, etc.) couldn't possibly have achieved the same, let alone much more (which is in fact more likely).
oafitupa··on A Billionaire Mathematician’s Life of Ferocious Curiosity
Yeah, in the process of killing millions and all imaginable crimes against humanity, they did a few good things, no one denies that. But if you use those good things as your argument, that's known as the broken window fallacy.
oafitupa··on Venture Capitalist Tim Draper Wins Bitcoin Auction
Everyone can get richer now thanks to Bitcoin. Not rich? Doesn't matter, just buy $10, $100, or whatever you can spare.
oafitupa··on Tor exit node operator prosecuted in Austria
Wrong thread? The guy got prosecuted for running a Tor node, not for committing a crime and failing to stay anonymous.
oafitupa··on Ask HN: Dev promoted to more strategic role in startup. What literature?
In chess, strategy is long term, tactic short term. A tactic has a very concrete goal, and in a few moves you will be able to say "it worked" or "it didn't work". A strategy has a more abstract goal, and sometimes you won't be able to tell to what degree it worked.
oafitupa··on How Japan Copied American Culture and Made it Better
> Defeated people have imitated the victors time and again throughout history. This has little to do with how amazing the other culture is.

Or it has little to do with being "defeated".

Graecia capta ferum victorem cepit.

oafitupa··on Digital Ocean needs to start showing outages on their status page
That's not support, that's them failing at providing what they advertised. I have used OVH for years, and they always fixed everything in their end very quickly. And that was for unmanaged dedicated servers, so I never had "excellent support", I had 0 support, but they provided what they advertised.
oafitupa··on CryptoCat iOS Application Penetration Test [pdf]
The good thing about CryptoCat is that everyone wants to trash it, so it's becoming better.

But there are also some online wallets that already implemented it:

oafitupa··on 8.0 earthquake strikes northern Chile
I'm sure you saved many lives with that prayer, you must be proud.
oafitupa··on Coinbase user emails and full names leaked
All of you guys seem not to be aware of the things you can do with Bitcoin. Eg: multi-signature wallets.

You won't need insurance when the coins simply can't be stolen.

oafitupa··on Square Market Accepts Bitcoin
"Websites don't actually accept USD, for example: they accept Visa"

This has to be a joke. Are you going to ignore the part where I you can't send USD over the wire? Websites would definitely accept USD, if they could.

oafitupa··on Oculus Says They Didn't Expect Such Negative Reactions to Selling to Facebook
I thought their goal was to make money, go figure.
oafitupa··on Bitcoin and me (Hal Finney) (2013)
Sorry all I got out was "I'm a butthurt and don't even understand Bitcoin".
oafitupa··on Why and how I write Java
Ruby could really use optional typing, like what PHP and Clojure have.
