o999··on Privacy doesn't mean anything anymore, anonymity does
There are self-hostable solutions for DDoS protection, try Anubis for example.
o999··on Privacy doesn't mean anything anymore, anonymity does
@ybceo As long as you use Cloudflare to verify users [fingerprints] and traffic between users and your service is decrypted at Cloudflare side, I am afraid it difficult to take these anonymity claims seriously.

Please do not to rely on fingerprinters or CDNs that does TLS-termination for you.

o999··on Has the cost of building software dropped 90%?
You don't have to self host, $100/engineer/mo is enough for many usecases.
o999··on Has the cost of building software dropped 90%?
Some indirect results to this might be:

- More engineers moving from employment to indie development.

- Less abandoned open source software.

- Indie developers, small teams, and open source software developers will be more able to catch up and better compete with tech giants.

I believe the AI agentic coders will threat tech giants more than it - collectively - threats software engineers.

o999··on UK Government plans new powers to label dissenting movements as 'subversion'

o999··on Are consumers just tech debt to Microsoft?
The proliferation of cheap agenting tools integrating with every SDLC stage makes building open source software faster and cheaper, which decreases the competition barrier with Microsoft's deep pockets, and decrease older propietary software market value significantly.

o999··on Israels top military lawyer arrested after she admitted leaking video of abuse

o999··on Obfuscating WireGuard Traffic as QUIC
FYI: Using I1-I5 in Amnezia client works fine with regular Wireguard servers, no need to deploy Amnezia on the server side.
o999··on Introduction to GrapheneOS
This post would be better if it focused on the differences with android. They can be found on GOS feature page, https://grapheneos.org/features , some security features are difficult to understand for non-developers, like ability to block Web JIT and native code debugging.
o999··on AI adoption linked to 13% decline in jobs for young U.S. workers: study
Blaming AI is better because it helps corporations convince the working class that there jobs are in long-term danger so they collectively settle for less favorable work terms and compensation, unlike if they are convinced that it is going to gradually improve with the upcoming monetary easing cycle..
o999··on Ask HN: The government of my country blocked VPN access. What should I use?
AmneziaWG clients works just fine with normal Wireguard servers by the way.
o999··on Ask HN: The government of my country blocked VPN access. What should I use?

o999··on Payment processors' bar on Japanese adult content endangers democracy (2024)
> The mistake here is in thinking that there's "democracy" left to save.

There is no democracy, never has been, it is an illusion of choice maintained by the oligarchs to keep people motivated just to get exploited more by whoever wins their next ballot.

I don't care about DVs

o999··on Payment processors' bar on Japanese adult content endangers democracy (2024)
Let's remember that there is no real "democracy" out there, activism and strikes are declared illegal/terrorism/threat in Europe and North America when it crosses the boundaries of the elite oligarchs.

US rail strikes, Canada truckers strikes, anti-genocide protests, anti-deportation protests, etc..

Online crackdown on journalism under the pretext of "graphic" content is an everyday occurrence.

So talking about ban on adult content in that context is naive at best.
