nxor··on CBP is monitoring US drivers and detaining those with suspicious travel patterns
I'm not allowed to disagree with people? What is wrong with you? And yeah, I use this site rarely. I also work and program and do many other things in my free time.
nxor··on CBP is monitoring US drivers and detaining those with suspicious travel patterns
That means I say things people disagree with. I am much like the rest of users here: live in a major city, STEM job, and so on.
nxor··on Human brains are preconfigured with instructions for understanding the world
I can relate. It's an advantage for sure not being in tune to human social conflicts. I am to a degree, of course, but I don't consider the same things offensive and that has only helped me in learning a lot quickly. In this regard I wish autism was seen as less of a disability and more of a "you are different from most people but sometimes that is good."

Iryna Zarutska's life was ruined. When liberals downplay events like these, it pushes people to the other side, even if the other side has issues. It's not hateful to want less crime.
nxor··on CBP is monitoring US drivers and detaining those with suspicious travel patterns
According to Pew Research, more foreigners make up the US population today than ever recorded. People here are allowed to question who is coming.

It's funny until you personally are affected.
nxor··on Cognitive and mental health correlates of short-form video use
You misunderstood me. I'm saying it's wrong to act like people can't believe different things than yourself.
nxor··on Measuring political bias in Claude
Anthropic is an American company. And you are surprised.
nxor··on Cognitive and mental health correlates of short-form video use
I try to tell my parents to watch less short form videos. They don't care. Thank you Meta and Alphabet. :(
nxor··on Cognitive and mental health correlates of short-form video use
People have beliefs you don't share?
nxor··on Cognitive and mental health correlates of short-form video use
I hope you don't mean conservative in the usual political sense. I know more conservatives worried about this than not.
nxor··on Cognitive and mental health correlates of short-form video use
Not for me. It's also about the kind of thinking this behavior engages. If you only think superficially about kittens for 30 minutes ... personally I would find that similarly awful. Whether the videos are rage inducing or not, it's only passive consumption. And I would rather spend that time using my brain.
nxor··on Cognitive and mental health correlates of short-form video use
You don't. This is where taking public transport to work shines.
nxor··on Cognitive and mental health correlates of short-form video use
Funny enough, last I saw, shorts of course are less profitable than videos, because they can't carry as many ads, and supposedly advertisers would rather put their ads on longer videos anyway. This would imply they just want to stay relevant. After all, if they didn't make short form videos, someone somewhere would be convinced they are missing out (personally I find shorts a lot worse than long videos).
nxor··on Your smartphone, their rules: App stores enable corporate-government censorship
Speaking of reddit: that doesn't justify a miniscule amount of people deciding what the rest of users may express.
nxor··on A new book about the origins of Effective Altruism
What reasons at all do you have?
nxor··on How long can it take to become a US citizen?
It should be telling that a great portion of these people are young men, and young men from certain regions view women, minorities, and ideas like honesty and fairness much differently. Europe is facing this right now. What are you suggesting? All of India moves to the US? Are you even aware they'd do that if they could? That is _not_ practical.
nxor··on How long can it take to become a US citizen?
All true but isn't our quality of life built on mines in Africa (car batteries and phone batteries) and sweatshops in China and co (much of our clothes)? To what degree does that reinforce that other countries have lower quality of life? Then again, this isn't specific to just the US.

SBF has entered the chat
nxor··on Europe converged rapidly on the United States before stagnating
I agree with you. It's a shame the karma system appears to disincentivize sharing ideas others would like to shut out.
nxor··on Bitchat for Gaza – messaging without internet
Why is chat control controversial? It seems like the same people afraid of this are the same people outraged when people then use private chat to do bad things.
nxor··on Bitchat for Gaza – messaging without internet
I guess if even one or two people use it that's a good thing. BUT. It probably would struggle with RTL and LTR stuff regarding arabic script vs latin script (and people across the world are forgoing traditional scripts for latin characters ... seems bad)
nxor··on Bitchat for Gaza – messaging without internet
Burundi has entered the chat. Strange you're getting downvoted.

nxor··on What happened with the CIA and The Paris Review?
Too many people believe you have to be one side or the other. Just because there are two choices doesn't mean (A) they are different and (B) one is better.
nxor··on Hemp ban hidden inside government shutdown bill
It wasn't a very political conversation but yes it could be used that way. I'll say this though. Isn't that what Native Americans need? They are in fact a tiny percent.
nxor··on European Nations Decide Against Acquiring Boeing E-7 Awacs Aircraft
You say all that as if I have a positive opinion of my country.

I live here. I know the problems. I'm very critical of them. In fact, the things that get discussed here don't even make it to Europe.

I live in a very violent city. I am a minority. I see minority crime. I know people who have been shot.

My point is that you all see us as unreliable, but fail to talk about the way this applies to western Europe as well.

I didn't say I was an expert.

You judge the US based on politics? Ok, I judge Europe based on politics. Your media lies to you regularly about the US and if the US is so bad, why did Europe obsess over it for so long?

nxor··on European Nations Decide Against Acquiring Boeing E-7 Awacs Aircraft
American news isn't 'confidently wrong' the way western European news reports on the US. In fact most Americans never even hear about Europe.
nxor··on The end of naked locker rooms
I agree, and I didn't mean to imply they fear the sight.

Some gay men pursue straight men and it's obviously wrong.

nxor··on The end of naked locker rooms
I didn't state the degree. I just mean straight men oppose gay men more than straight women oppose gay women.
