nwotnagrom··on Ask HN: Alternative to Virtualbox on M1 Macs?
Im on a macbook air, but I use a desktop as a service solution. (shells.com)
nwotnagrom··on Do you really want Linux phones
I have also been craving the same and have found myself utilizing a VM on my phone to access the OS of my liking (Manjaro KDE) and being able to do things that I definitely could not do on my phone when I was away from my desktop. I do think at the end of the day, all we yearn for is having the THE desktop experience on our phone.
nwotnagrom··on Ask HN: Digital Nomads: What's Your Setup?
I have been getting by with an iPad Air that has cellular and wifi connectivity no matter where i go. I do have an iPhone Pro 11 as well. Basically, I just carry these two devices wherever I go. As both are readily connected, it is very convenient for me.

For my iPad though, I also utilize a VM which I access through the Shells.com app. This allows me to have access to a Linux and Windows machine through my iPad so I have everything all in one.

nwotnagrom··on Ask HN: I can SSH, code, write books on an iPad but why would I want to?
I tend to be on the go a lot, so its great for me to have access to a device that is "always" connected which is why I like my iPad which has both a cellular and wifi connection. I know I could also do the personal hotspot approach, but its just an extra step that I don't like to deal with.
nwotnagrom··on Ask HN: Instant VMs?
May not be exactly what you are looking for but Shells.com offers VMs with pre-installed OSs as well as the option to bring in your own image if you want.

nwotnagrom··on Rollerball Pens of 2021

nwotnagrom··on Should I get the Covid vaccine?
I suspect things like travel will have some requirements in terms of vaccinations moving forward, so life could also become quite inconvenient if you like moving around that is.
nwotnagrom··on Software Distributions and Their Roles Today
Yeah probably more for beginners but figure it would be good to pass on to others.
nwotnagrom··on Software Distributions and Their Roles Today
Yeah, its long, but really a good informative read with some good links as well...!
nwotnagrom··on Apple's MacBook revival plan: Bring back old features
Agreed. I do hope they keep USB-C. The one cable that works for all was actually a convenience for me as I could charge a macbook, ipad, and even a samsung galaxy phone all with the same single cable.
nwotnagrom··on Ask HN: Is frugality underrated in startups?
I guess its just a matter of balance at the end of the day and finding what makes sense for your business (which is why some make it and some don't!). Its like investing. You could be conservative and sometimes that rewards you, but at the same time, you will most likely not take the risks that could return big reward.
nwotnagrom··on That's not how 2FA works
I agree on the idea around usability of YubiKeys. I have them also and believe they are great, but I never seem to have them when I need them. Of course, maybe its on another floor or another room and I am being lazy not walking over there, but it is an added inconvenience on a process that needs to be balanced between security and convenience.
nwotnagrom··on Ask HN: What are your favourite productivity tools?
Boxy for Gmail has made a world of difference for me. Having multiple gmail accounts and being able to easily access all of them in one place has been a huge change for me....
nwotnagrom··on 2021 will demand new kinds of video conferencing
It seems like every single application had bits and pieces of what is needed but no one has still been able to offer the entire package.

- Zoom definitely has mastered the ease of logging in whether you have the application or not as well as the ability to see multiple people, but obviously they have had their privacy issues.

- Teams seems to have good screen sharing and chatting integrated as well as some other small features here and there, but if you dont have the application, it takes some time and the browser based isnt bad but could be better.

- Google Meet- All sorts of improvements are needed...

- Jitsi - Definitely has its positives but I have always had connection issues for whatever reason.

Would love to see Apple do something more with Facetime...

nwotnagrom··on The M1 MacBook Air is the best computer I've ever owned
I prefer browser based options such as shells.com where you can actually just access Windows or Linux on a virtual cloud computer. Much easier than messing with Parallels...
nwotnagrom··on Ask HN: Best Hacker News Apps for iOS
I will check this one out....thanks for the advice
nwotnagrom··on Poll: Switching from WhatsApp
Definitely I think its between Telegram and Signal. With Signal, there is definitely that comfort level of knowing that your information/chats are secure, but I have found it to be slightly less user friendly in terms of setting up chats/group chats etc. Its also not as widely used compared to Telegram.

With Telegram, I have been using it more recently and found it to be even effective in a work-setting for group chats, sharing files etc. Its basically a Slack and the fact that it is available on multiple platforms also has made it very appealing.

nwotnagrom··on Consume Less. Create More. It’s More Fun
agree here....this is something I have tried to make an effort catching myself on more and more. creating makes me feel so much more satisfied and motivated to do more.
nwotnagrom··on Talk Less, Listen More
I agree- I always keep this in mind when I am doing interviews. Its the interviewees that keep talking and talking about everything they have done that I lose interest in! Its the ones who ask me the questions and listen that I have interest.
nwotnagrom··on Thank HN: All of you, this place, gives me hope
