nummerfuenf··on Wind farm in Germany is being dismantled to expand coal mine
That's news from last year. Also the operator RWE has built replacement windmills somewhere else.
nummerfuenf··on Is 3D printer company Bambu Lab trying to patent everything about 3D printing?
Those are still pending and probably won't go through. That stuff is old tech and considered state of the art. It's like you're trying to patent the wheel.
nummerfuenf··on LoRA: Low-Rank Adaptation of Large Language Models
Can we stop naming things like stuff that already exists?
nummerfuenf··on Ask HN: Those making $0/month or less on side projects – Show and tell
I tried to subscribe, but it said there was a problem :(
nummerfuenf··on Ask HN: Is 8gb RAM enough for a Linux dev laptop?
refurbished thinkpad ;)
nummerfuenf··on Which programming paradigm had the most impact on you as an engineer and why?
Not really a paradigm, but when I learnt about state machines on MCUs that influenced my overall programming a lot :)
nummerfuenf··on Ask HN: Why corporate culture never increment your salary?
Did you ask for a raise? Because if not, then this is completely normal. You have two options (leaving out the "just continue and feel miserable"):

- ask for a raise

- change the company

Whatever you do, make sure to have a realistic idea of what your work is worth. Ask fellow employees how much they make and check local statistics about salary in your specific field.

Isn't Canada in a shortage of skilled software engineers? Take advantage of that.

nummerfuenf··on Bioluminescence
There's no such thing as polarized lenses, only polarization filters. Also, Light from bioluminescence isn't polarized.

I assume the pictures taken for Wikipedia just had very long exposure times.

nummerfuenf··on Ask HN: What jobs can I have knowing Python?
TL;DR: Python alone won't land you a job!

So here is the thing: Just knowing a programming language, isn't enough of a skill to land a job! That's why you learn other things too on university, like math, data science and so on. I for example work in the robotics industry and I do exactly what you ask for. I write many short python scripts for ROS. But my ability to write python code isn't what makes me valuable. It's because I studied robotics, know how to solve complex problems using math, and then implement said solution in python. The last part being the easiest. Coding is like writing. Just because you know how to read and write, doesn't make you a bestselling author. That's just a basic requirement, and even back-end devs need some knowledge about databases, distributed systems, etc.
