> Sounds like you think it's an unusual curve, but it's not really.

I know you are correct. But I also smell Big Tobacco conspiracy, not with HN, but with Netflix. Where can I see number of flaggings?

We just hit the front page :)

Not my website :) But I'm aware that you need to post when it is 10am in NY. I'm down under, and my timing sucks lol

nuker··on Netflix Kept Showing Smoking in TV Shows Despite 2019 Pledge, Study Finds
Creative freedom is fine. Problem is when it is clearly a product placement and used way more often than for purely creative purpose.

And a for a very evil product.

What about latest sci-fi show 3 Body Problem? The year is 2024 in it.
nuker··on Netflix Kept Showing Smoking in TV Shows Despite 2019 Pledge, Study Finds
I just started watching 3 Body Problem, and in first 20 mins smoking scenes are non-stop.
nuker··on Use a browser that supports end-to-end encryption on Messenger and Facebook
Safari is not in the list of "These web browsers support end-to-end encrypted chats on Facebook.com/messages and Facebook chat". Why?

These web browsers support end-to-end encrypted chats on Facebook.com/messages and Facebook chat:

- Chrome

- Firefox (without private mode enabled)

- Microsoft Edge

nuker··on Alexei Navalny has died
Most don’t but neither would you if you had all your info from TV box for 20 years.
nuker··on Alexei Navalny has died
> When there’s a mass of people enough to fight the regime,

To get the mass to act together requires clean comms. Dirty comms result in eliminating (jailing) of activists before they organise.

And don't forget no free press for 22 years.

They provided data on request. We can never know for sure how much. Another fresh data:

nuker··on Alexei Navalny has died
Sad times began in 2002, when the last independent TV channel (TV-6), to where the team of previously shut down channel NTV, flocked, was also taken over and shut down. That was the end of free press.

> The Russian people lack the will, organization, and moral courage to overthrow their klepto-plutocrat dictator.

They lack secure communication tools in the first place. I believe Telegram is backdoored by FSB and Whatsapp just bent over without fight.

nuker··on Almost every infrastructure decision I endorse or regret
AWS ECS is better than Kubernetes, and Cloudformation is better than Terraform. Just my IMHO.

Both are more simple and do the same thing.

nuker··on Rocky Linux, Reflections on Three Years of Growth
Offtopic. I watched this post rankings [0] and saw a huge drop from 6 to 75, a minute ago. Damn algorithms, lol

“Rocky mirrors RHEL exactly, aiming to be a bug for bug compatible release with RHEL itself.”

Is openSUSE like this?

nuker··on Rocky Linux, Reflections on Three Years of Growth
Good question. I saw the CentOS drama unfolding and Rocky was pitched as a replacement. They held the door so far :) (Hodor from Game of Thrones)

> you are being punished for exercising the rights that have been given to you by the original software license

This means war. Rebel!

Or Rocky for RPM diehards :)

> The GPL only requires that you provide sources to those to whom you distribute binaries, not to the general public.

Interesting. I looked at Wikipedia GPL page and saw this: "The GNU General Public License (GNU GPL or simply GPL) is a series of widely used free software licenses or copyleft that guarantee end users the four freedoms to run, study, share, and modify the software.[7] "

So any user of GPL covered software can share it with anyone. Right? Can any RHEL user share sources to Rocky? And to public?

> As a matter of fact almost all startups are already on Ubuntu... To my perspective playing corporate games with the open source community ...

"Canonical Ltd.[4] is a UK-based privately held computer software company founded and funded by South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth" [0]

Lol, Canonical is as corporate as they go. I think using Ubuntu is a dumb choice. Canonical is unpredictable.

nuker··on Rocky Linux, Reflections on Three Years of Growth
But RHEL is under GPL licence, right? So what Rocky does is covered by GPL, thanks aside. No thanks expected when it is a war :)

My default Linux for stuff. Just installed it as a VM on my Proxmox box for an SFTPgo instance. I think it is the best choice today for RPM based distro.
nuker··on Apple announces changes to iOS, Safari, and the App Store in the European Union
> Developing and installing apps is the main feature of a computer.

I may argue that policing the App store is the main feature of the iPhone. That is why I bought it in the first place. It is not a computer in general sense. I want only a few apps and I want them to behave.

nuker··on Apple announces changes to iOS, Safari, and the App Store in the European Union
Next morning Facebook removes its app from Apple Store and directs users to sideload the app, because it needs those sweet permissions that were denied before.

Apps outside official app store may force you to enable permissions it does not really need, refusing to work without it. Apps in official store should work with the permissions approved by the store. The “should” is enforced by the store.

nuker··on My daily driver is older than I thought; it's positively vintage
> So I went with a CF card to IDE adapter.

No no no. The sound is irreplaceable. I ended up with FUJITSU MPB3043AT. Tried Quantum Fireball 2GB but it was too noisy.
