nsxwolf··on A Staff Engineer's Guide to Inventing Work
The platform is partly a product for the engineers.
nsxwolf··on NRC issues first U.S. construction permit for a BWRX-300 small modular reactor
Why do you say so?
nsxwolf··on You are no longer invited to dinner
Yeah, serving a lot of dishes is part of the fun.
nsxwolf··on Everybody’s home. No one’s coming over
My best friends are all annoying in various ways.
nsxwolf··on Java 27
G1 is now the default garbage collector in 27.
nsxwolf··on Show HN: I couldn't afford interview prep, so I built a free alternative
This always reads like an admission - “Well of course it’s bad, but how else am I supposed to interview at mass scale?”

Why would you test a large number of candidates in the first place?

nsxwolf··on Show HN: I couldn't afford interview prep, so I built a free alternative
I’ve never seen Leetcode test foundational knowledge. There are far better ways to do that than timed puzzles.
nsxwolf··on Show HN: I couldn't afford interview prep, so I built a free alternative
What books? That horrible green book?
nsxwolf··on Show HN: I couldn't afford interview prep, so I built a free alternative
Expedia was about to Leetcode me but I took another offer before it happened.
nsxwolf··on Chicken products recalled in five states due to “false marks of inspection”
Interesting comments here. I've never lived in a time when there weren't news stories about food recalls. I don't think they can be used as data, though. They don't tell me anything about wether the US food supply is worse than it was last year, or 10 years ago, or if its standing in the world is rising or falling.

Are we not interested in science and reason here?

nsxwolf··on Decompiling a Nintendo 64 game in 84 days
If I hand you a math problem, and you point your camera at it and write down ChatGPT’s answer, you are definitely not doing math.
nsxwolf··on Tim Curry has died
In case anyone doesn't understand the reference, lproven is hoping that Donald Trump, current President of the United States, who has a bit part in Home Alone 2, dies next.
nsxwolf··on Os8088.com: IBM XT OS now has a Browser, CP/M 2.2 with Z80 core and MS Word 1.1a
I do not get slop vibes from this project at all. Everything looks intentional. There are no bizarre UI elements that were hallucinated into existence. It looks like everything you see was intended to be there.

The website doesn't give the impression of slop either.

This appears to be the "taste" we all have been saying humans are needed for.

nsxwolf··on Os8088.com: IBM XT OS now has a Browser, CP/M 2.2 with Z80 core and MS Word 1.1a
I was able to boot the 1.44MB floppy image on my PS/2, but the mouse doesn't work.
nsxwolf··on Could Four Billion People Die at 3°C?
It's cold, but not that cold.
nsxwolf··on How I developed an Am29000 C compiler and web browser
DJGPP was a revelation. Suddenly I had real build tools, for free, and I was linking to Glide libraries and thinking I was going to be the next John Carmack.
nsxwolf··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
We never attempted to solve the issue of distorted price signals that occur when customers aren't the ones paying for something. We're still charging $600 for a bag of saline.
nsxwolf··on Universal health coverage could save $1T and 114k lives a year: study
Another way of looking at is that some people are concerned about what happens to limited "free" healthcare resources when you simultaneously oppose any controls on immigration.
nsxwolf··on Universal Health Coverage Could Save $1T and 114k Lives a Year, Yale Study
Democracy is the biggest obstacle to universal healthcare in the US.

A lot of people do not want it, and you've thus far failed to make them want it.

nsxwolf··on Mushroom behind 'tiny people' hallucinations identified
What if we all take the mushrooms and sit in the same room and write down what we see and compare notes?

What if we all see the exact same thing

nsxwolf··on Show HN: KidScreen, a finite YouTube shelf chosen by parents
Yeah that's what I'm saying. So why are we making apps that pretend to do it?
nsxwolf··on AI is removing the middle class of software engineering?
My job was just taken by Cognizant, which is technically American, so I guess you're technically right!
nsxwolf··on Show HN: KidScreen, a finite YouTube shelf chosen by parents
Friction is the problem with something like this. If my kid grabs my phone, or uses the LG TV Youtube App, or the Apple TV app, or the PlayStation 5, can all of those default to KidScreen?

If it can't solve all those, there's absolutely no utility for me. If I were willing to become the kind of authoritarian taskmaster that tightly controls which devices my kids use to watch something at all times, I would already not need KidScreen.

nsxwolf··on Os8088: A powerful Mac-like OS for the IBM XT, 286, 386
Did not boot for me on an IBM PS/2 Model 30 (80286).
nsxwolf··on Making difficulty curves in games
I like when your character or your party feels like superheroes for a little while after leveling up, then it gets harder to really test your new ability, then keep repeating that cycle.
nsxwolf··on Monitors for Work
I have a curved 3840x1600 ultrawide and it’s basically perfect.
nsxwolf··on Scientists discover Kelvin-Helmholtz Instability on the surface of the Sun
Stars are nifty. They seem like they're just gigantic balls of plasma, but they have all this hidden structure.
nsxwolf··on AMD acquires Taalas to boost inference performance by etching models in silicon
It doesn’t believe it’s running on that chip, it’s arguing with me
nsxwolf··on Quake – 30th Anniversary Update
Does it work with the MS-DOS version?
nsxwolf··on Software development with AI is starting to feel like cooking steak
I am enjoying that people would much rather just talk about actually cooking steaks than AI.
