I have lived in San Francisco, Portland, and Seattle since the pandemic started and while Portland and Seattle have gotten worse, they don’t hold a candle to how dangerous San Francisco has become. There are parts of San Francisco I won’t walk around in the day time. There simply isn’t anywhere like the tenderloin or SOMA in either Portland or Seattle.
Legislation doesn’t guarantee rights. If the same body trying to violate your rights with a bill can just pass another bill to repeal your rights, your rights are not protected. Two things are required to guarantee rights from a government: a constitution or charter that is extraordinarily difficult to modify, and a court system whose decisions can’t be overturned by the elected government, neither of which the UK has.
The problem with gas stations becoming EV charging stations is that EV charging takes substantially longer than filling a gas tank and no one wants to hang out at a gas station.
On number 4, if all you need to do is go in one day per week, wouldn’t the radius increase to how far you can get in a roughly two hour flight? This opens up Seattle, Boise, Salt Lake, Las Vegas, Phoenix, LA, San Diego...
The problem with suburbs is they don’t allow kids to get any amount of independence because they must be driven everywhere by their parents. I moved from a US suburb to a small city in Europe when I was 12 and it was liberating. I could suddenly walk or bike downtown alone.
It is as hard as you want to make it. You have near absolute freedom in the classes you choose to take. I would say it was definitely a worthwhile experience.
You don't need to know the positions of the beacons unless you want an instant location fix. You can use SLAM with inertial odometry or visual inertial odometry to find a precise position using UWB beacons at unknown positions. SLAM algorithms will also give you the positions of the beacons. The catches are that it requires compute, and it requires you to move around for the model to converge.
We are expecting 3-9 inches of sea level rise over the next century. Boise is at 2730 feet. The mountains where they are buying this land is even higher. What they are hedging is population growth and the continued migration west. Also people leaving California as it becomes too expensive. Buying land in the far north could be a global warming play as that area will be more temperate in future.
