nsksl··on The case for having roommates even when you can afford to live alone
Buying an old beater car as your first car has been the norm forever. But that’s because young people still have no wealth, ie they are poor, not because they don’t want a shiny Audi.
nsksl··on The case for having roommates even when you can afford to live alone
You could argue everything, but I’m pretty sure 99% of those sharing a flat are doing so because they can’t afford a flat for themselves, not because they enjoy the company.
nsksl··on The case for having roommates even when you can afford to live alone
The case for normalising poverty.

How exactly should they be terminated? 150 1:1 meetings?
nsksl··on Google shifts goo.gl policy: Inactive links deactivated, active links preserved
I don't understand. For you to see the message, you have to click on the link. Your clicking on the link must mean that the link is active, since it is getting clicks. So why is the link being deactivated for being inactive?
nsksl··on MacBook Pro Insomnia
Okay, then… As a user I’d expect the device not to waste any time connecting to my wireless network and getting a dhcp lease, instead being already connected when I open the lid.
nsksl··on MacBook Pro Insomnia
Wait, low temperatures drain your battery? I would’ve expected the opposite.
nsksl··on Many countries that said no to ChatControl in 2024 are now undecided
If you give the EU a lot of power, which some people in HN are in favour of, they will use it for good and bad. I’d rather they have no power and live without the good things. Those who celebrate the good things are too ignorant to realise that the power they use to do good things will eventually be used to do bad things.
nsksl··on Try the Mosquito Bucket of Death
How is that better than what the article describes? You need gas, electricity (outdoors!) and get constant fan noise.
nsksl··on Datacenter lobby blows a fuse over EU efficiency proposals
So civilisations that are in decline had a peak of energy consumption a couple of decades ago? Whilst civilisations that are progressing keep using more energy? Are you sure this helps your argument?
nsksl··on Datacenter lobby blows a fuse over EU efficiency proposals
That was true of every single civilisation before ours.
nsksl··on Datacenter lobby blows a fuse over EU efficiency proposals
As they say there isn’t a single civilisation that has prospered by spending less energy.

nsksl··on The hit film about overworked nurses that's causing alarm across Europe
Averages as well as you say are useless. You know this, so I don’t know why you bring averages up. I specifically mentioned the most common salary, not the average or the mean, which are completely skewed.

You should also research the salaries of other people who also have a “bachelor’s degree” as you call it. That is, if they get employment and don’t have to emigrate.

Mobile operating systems have very great children controls. You should research the topic yourself and you will see.
nsksl··on The hit film about overworked nurses that's causing alarm across Europe
Fewer, for sure.

Not to mention they work for the state so they are guaranteed to have lots of free days by law and their work hours are always respected.

nsksl··on The hit film about overworked nurses that's causing alarm across Europe
Nurses in Spain make 2500-3000 euro a month, in a country where the most common salary is 1250 euro. Are they overworked? Well then they can take a pay cut so we can hire more of them.
nsksl··on Wikimedia Foundation Challenges UK Online Safety Act Regulations
Maybe so, but it’s better than the alternatives.
nsksl··on Wikimedia Foundation Challenges UK Online Safety Act Regulations
Not necessarily. If they want to have uneducated children, let them.
nsksl··on Wikimedia Foundation Challenges UK Online Safety Act Regulations
That's how it should work but you will find that a majority of parents cba rearing their children so they want the state to do it for them. And this extends to so many things in life that the authoritarian grip is only going to get tighter with time.

nsksl··on Blowing the whistle on domestic (family) court
Why even have a court? After all if they take you there it must be because you’re guilty. No need for a trial.
nsksl··on How to make websites that will require lots of your time and energy
> - Some homegrown “SQL helper” that saves you from writing SELECT *, but now makes it a puzzle to reconstruct a basic query in a database

>- Bonus points if the half-baked data access layer is buried under layers of “magic” and is next to impossible to find.

It’s really funny because you’re describing an ORM perfectly.

nsksl··on Mistral's new "environmental audit" shows how much AI is hurting the planet
Of course they are. We continuously hear that we have to stop having cars, kids, and consuming in a way that the elites have described as irresponsible, all whilst they travel the world in private jets where they definitely do not eat tofu.

How is this comment anti-EU?
nsksl··on EU age verification app to ban any Android system not licensed by Google
Age verification is not a conservative talking point in Europe. I live in Western Europe where conservatives simply do not exist and the government is trying to push an age verification solution too.
