npace12··on Launch HN: Okapi (YC W24) – A new, flexible CRM with good UX
Yeah, integration work never ends but having a few popular ones built in + api and docs goes a long way. I've honestly never seen anyone in mid/big companies consider Zapier, but it's been a few years since I was in that space, so could have changed. Getting into those bigger companies, you're basically going to need everything, or hope for a small team within the company to like your CRM.

Those small teams/companies basically want a simple Hubspot, not salesforce, but a lot of times, they don't really know the difference. Something that can take Apollo leads, build some "simple" email campaigns [1], some landing pages [2], track one-off emails and report on all that for cheaper than the $25k/yr or whatever hubspot charges would be a great tool. I know, not exactly a CRM, but people call it that.

I don't think it matters if you integrate other providers or build it in, but having an easy setup where users don't have to go sign up, manage and integrate with a bunch of other services could help you get the small/startup space.

[1] Lots of things to deal with if you're taking on the email sending & tracking part, automated clicks, safari privacy, etc. [2] This is a can of worms, but being able to build simple landing pages for people to click on from an email is pretty important.

Congrats on your launch! I have some feedback, but please don't take it negatively, it's just my thoughts.

I love to see anyone taking on salesforce.com, but your product so far is way too barebones. It reminds me of something I'd get from just using some admin UI for a database.

I was a salesforce technical architect and consultant for a number of years (hated it.) and what I've seen is that some of the first things people look for are reports, dashboards, workflows, integration. A lot of people think their sales process is super unique and want to see a path of implementing it in a system and that includes integrating it with a bunch of other systems already in place.

For smaller companies, sourcing leads, creating and tracking email campaigns, is probably the first thing they look for.

Some feedback for your website:

* gifs/videos take a while to load and stay blurred

* The linkedin example is great, show more like this

* Ability to add custom fields/objects is expected, doubt anyone would be impressed by that

* Show some canned dashboards and reports on the data

npace12··on Reversing for dummies – x86 assembly and C code (Beginner/ADHD friendly)
If you are interested in reversing but don't know much about it, including the tools, I made an small plugin for `radare2` that you can ask it questions, it runs the commands and explains you what you need. [1]

The functionality has also been merged into the bigger `r2ai` tool and supports anthropic and local LLMs as well. [2]

npace12··on Detect when your installed Chrome extensions have changed owners
Great idea! We need a lot more visibility into what extensions are doing. I made little-rat [1] last year, to detect network calls coming from other extensions. Love to see more tools like yours!

I think it's awesome to see this level of excitement, but what are the leading theories behind Ilya/board's silence?
npace12··on Zima Board – Hackable Single Board Server
the only thing i can think seeing this is "you should go back to your strip malls and drink your Zimas and Smirnoff Ices"

would that work? that's like wearing noise canceling headphones to a concert.
npace12··on Show HN: Vanna AI – Open-sourced text-to-SQL in Python
Looks nice but I'm confused why it's advertised as if it's training anything. It's just doing retrieval from a vector db and generating a prompt with openai/LLM.
npace12··on Browser extensions spy on you, even if its developers don't
ahh thanks, i'll update the link
npace12··on Browser extensions spy on you, even if its developers don't
interesting, are you sure you got the latest from the main branch? that looks like an old version
npace12··on Browser extensions spy on you, even if its developers don't
speaker is for muting the alerts so they don't show red badge for that extension

the chrome store version only has blocking. if you install it from github you get all the other options

npace12··on Browser extensions spy on you, even if its developers don't
for that, you can use ublock. Little Rat can block any traffic originating from a chrome extension. That includes content scripts injected by extensions into webpages, but not sites that you loaded.
npace12··on Browser extensions spy on you, even if its developers don't
In chrome, you can block network traffic coming from extensions. I built an open-source extension you can check out that does that [1]

npace12··on Open-source Twitter-scale Mastodon implementation in 10k LOC
Yes, I get that, and it makes sense. But given that this is a potentially very powerful, (but closed) platform, I see the JVM part as an implementation detail. If I'm going to be getting my whole team writing pstates and things, now I also have to tell them they need to write their code for the JVM. Temporal.io made a platform and wrote it in Go or whatever they use, but they released with a few SDKs for different languages. Would this just not be possible with Rama? like, does a serializing interface like grpc make Rama somehow not worth it?
npace12··on Open-source Twitter-scale Mastodon implementation in 10k LOC
From what I can tell, this is a production-ready differential dataflow solution with basically, a DSL. Is Java supposed to be the selling point as in, "oh it's just Java so you can run it on your Java things?" Why not just make it some GRPC-thing with SDKs or even its own well-documented DSL?
npace12··on uBlock Origin Lite now available on Firefox
Yeah, I think you're correct. The security win is that you can block without needing the permissions for webRequest which are "can read and modify everything you do"
npace12··on uBlock Origin Lite now available on Firefox
You need the webRequest API (that uBO Full is using) from manifest v2 to be able to read the traffic. Without it, you can just block/allow based on rules.

Chrome is deprecating it with v3, Firefox supposedly no.

npace12··on uBlock Origin Lite now available on Firefox
One interesting thing I noticed while trying to port little-rat to FF, using the same declarativeNetRequest API as uBOL last week:

In Chrom*, extensions can intercept calls from other extensions, while in Firefox, they can't. If anyone happens to have any insight, please let me know.

EDIT: removed links as I'm being downvoted, not trying to promote, just would love to make it work in FF.

npace12··on Show HN: Little Rat – Chrome extension monitors network calls of all extensions
Your extension is not actually using declarativeNetRequestFeedback, though.
npace12··on Show HN: Little Rat – Chrome extension monitors network calls of all extensions
Managed to get it in! [1]

I added ability to do blocking and made the "management" and "declarativeNetRequestFeedback" permissions optional, requested via a button on the popup page. While declarativeNetRequestFeedback works when you install it manually, the store version tells you the permissions are there, but chrome.declarativeNetRequest.onRuleMatchedDebug is undefined, so unfortunately, the store version can't count the number of requests. Blocking still works though, just you don't get any feedback about what's blocked. I think this is still useful to be able to block extensions, so I'll keep carrying 2 versions, 1 for the store with limited functionaly.

npace12··on Show HN: Little Rat – Chrome extension monitors network calls of all extensions
this was probably due to an earlier bug where not all extensions were showing on the first load of the popup page, it should be fixed now

Damn, I was gonna go research it just in case, but then I noticed who posted this. Mad respect for your work!
npace12··on Show HN: Little Rat – Chrome extension monitors network calls of all extensions
Yeah, it's only getting the list of extensions once on load, I'll push a change in tomorrow to have it refresh. The number shows the number of requests the extension has made. When you click on the name (if > 0), it will show the unique URLs of those requests
npace12··on Show HN: Little Rat – Chrome extension monitors network calls of all extensions
fixed the mute button btw. i noticed the other thing you mentioned as well
