novium··on EA got hacked and games source code leaked including new game Battlefield 2042
Yeah, the source for the BBC article (VICE[0]) also just mentions that it included the source for Frostbite, not the entire game.

Edit: [0] is also a much better source than BBC in this case.

novium··on Klarna users are being signed in to random accounts
Yeah, so basically use something like Chia instead and create tons of e-waste?
novium··on Microsoft Authenticator Chrome Extention is not from MS and is phishing
Sadly, the most efficient way is probably to report it to the abuse contact of the host. In this case - Scaleway / Online.net.
novium··on Microsoft Authenticator Chrome Extention is not from MS and is phishing
That's an actual Microsoft extension though[0].

novium··on SVT Encore – Abstract the Transcoding Power of FFmpeg
It's also on twitch, shouldn't be geoblocked there https://www.twitch.tv/svt_slow
novium··on Huawei deactivates AI and cloud business group in restructuring
You could make the case that "stealing" talent is in terms of targeting hiring people where the training and research costs were footed by someone else.

Then again, as you pointed out, you could also make the case that they weren't properly compensated.

novium··on Apple doesn't care about album cover art
Definitely! I like the fact that for example Spotify's desktop client (optionally) gives the album art a significant chunk of screen real-estate.
novium··on ZGC – What's new in JDK 16
Since ZGC is in OpenJDK it should already be available in Zulu as well

https://github.com/openjdk/jdk/tree/master/src/hotspot/share...

novium··on Bitwarden_rs: Unofficial Bitwarden compatible server written in Rust
If I'm not mistaken it should be mostly fine as long as you trust the desktop/phone versions of Bitwarden not to send off the (unhashed) key to the server

Edit: Noting that there have been discussions about the default number of iterations. https://github.com/bitwarden/jslib/issues/52

novium··on Bitwarden Send - A trusted way to securely share information with anyone
Just checked, should be available on the self-hosted version as well. [0] And the author of bitwarden_rs seems to be planning to tackle it over the weekend!

novium··on NSA posters from the 50s and 60s [pdf]
This should be applicable https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyright_status_of_work_by_th...
novium··on GNU/Linux local username triggers Steam VAC ban
So that card game they're talking about isn't a game?

novium··on The Robots Are Coming and Sweden Is Fine
But at the same time, the average life expectancy has also increased at a similar rate.

Edit: Adding to this the retirement age has not yet been raised, but is only proposed to be raised.

novium··on H1-B Administrators Are Challenging an Unusually Large Number of Applications
Article linked from the post is on Bloomberg https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-11-06/trump-s-h...
novium··on [dead]
Shouldn't this be a Show HN?
novium··on [dead]
Seems so, not that its at all obvious from the page linked to. (Though the homepage is quite a bit more clear about that aspect)
novium··on Atlantropa
Tom Scott has a video about it if you prefer video content https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TEdsQmjLMKs
novium··on Show HN: Cyborg Writer - In-Browser Text Editor with Neural Autocomplete
It's pretty neat, even got a t.co URL. Sadly, it didn't lead anywhere.
novium··on Show HN: Secure Windows Shell
I'm not sure I like hardcoded URL's that fetches stuff every time I run a program without good reason. Also, I wouldn't ever trust the program itself to check its integrity. But I digress, it's definitely an interesting project.

What are the pro's and con's of using it instead of the win32 version of OpenSSH? [0]

novium··on Object oriented programming in C (2007)
There are still a few reasons to use C even to this day and I'd add that the page was last updated in 2007.
novium··on Swift-Keylogger – Keylogger for MacOS written in Swift using HID
Still not a reason to assume things here.
novium··on Show HN: CloudBoost – Open-Source Parse, Firebase and Algolia Combined into One
I love the part that consists of ~20-30 nested 3-liner if statements with various depth.

Edit: to make things worse, there's a 500-char long line in the same file, with minimal comments except for todo's.

novium··on Show HN: CloudBoost – Open-Source Parse, Firebase and Algolia Combined into One
And the "kamrindanielle" that is posting here seems to be affiliated with CloudBoost whilst using "they" instead of "we". So they sure keep an eye on the threads here.
novium··on RIP the Broccoli Tree
Also, "anything that gratifies one's intellectual curiosity" is on-topic here. I'd qualify this as that, especially since the philosophical discussion in a thread further up.
novium··on Bypassing Intel Boot Guard
https://web.archive.org/web/20171006051839/https://embedi.co... (Looks a bit funky tho, text and images are there, so should be fine)
novium··on Three Years in Identity Theft Hell
At first I was surprised by you mentioning Ukraine and BankID, especially since it's developed by Swedish banks. But reading about it now makes it seem like they are branching out to other European countries as well.

Over here it's basically used for everything that needs authentication / signatures - taxes, banking etc.

novium··on The Bremen Drop Tower
There's a great Tom Scott video about the tower https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4aCMDQsx740
novium··on Surface Book – It’s Easy to Switch from Mac to Surface
Are you sure about that? Just checked the tech specs on the MBP and it seemed correct (2560x1600 = ~4.1M / 227ppi)[1].

Edit: ie. main screen (3000x2000) / main screen (2560x1600)

novium··on Show HN: Find any email address on the web
On the topic of tracking emails that are "publicly posted on the web", how are you then making sure that the emails have been published with consent and don't originate in sources like database dumps etc.? As it does still sound somewhat unethical to use emails that aren't published with consent.
novium··on Show HN: Make Me Work – a solution to procrastination
Possibly a call-to-action-like button or something similar would be nice as well.

Otherwise I certainly like the idea
