nosioptar··on Mistral X Mozilla: Private, Multilingual AI Browsing
I think youre right. The least techy people I know where the first to ditch Mozilla when they started to see ads in Firefox.
nosioptar··on Show HN: I made a flight simulator, except you're just a passenger
I never thought I'd live to see the day when goat simulator lost its crown...

You should add the christian extremists who think the rest of the passengers want to suffer through a bullshit sermon.

nosioptar··on The Google Play app review process now regularly takes longer than a week
I use Foxy Droid.

It's unfortunate the official f-droid client is an unusable mess. (I stopped using it years ago, maybe they fixed it.)

There's also f-droid classic, can't remember why I use foxy droid over it.

nosioptar··on The Google Play app review process now regularly takes longer than a week
I'd love to see people distribute their apks directly.

Itch.io is an option for people who don't want to set up a site or handle payments. While they focus on games, they're cool with distributing non-games:

nosioptar··on Has anyone made any money/successes making SaaS's with AI?
Dude, I've already put more effort into your site than you have. If you want to know which bits are slop, look at all of the prose. It all reeks of clanker.
nosioptar··on Mistral X Mozilla: Private, Multilingual AI Browsing
Palemoon doesn't embed clankers as far as I know.

SeaMonkey exists. But, I'm sure Mozilla will fuck it up if they ever remember it exists.

nosioptar··on Has anyone made any money/successes making SaaS's with AI?
Why would anyone pay monthly to use those sites when they too could make their own version for $20 in tokens?

Each of the three sites look like bog standard slop, both in design and prose.

The pages kept going blank any time I attempted to scroll.

The game was super laggy.

nosioptar··on Why is nobody signing up even though I launched an unlimited plan on my website?
My thoughts on looking at the page:

First thing I saw when I opened your site was a dick over pushing me to sign up. I always close the tab the instant a dick over pops up.

The page design is slop. It feels like every other ai built site I've seen.

You contradict yourself. First you say it's unlimited, then you mention credits and a usage limit. You're not AT&T, you can't get away with calling a limited plan unlimited.

It's shady to advertise a monthly price in big text with tiny text telling you it's actually annually billed.

Your terms are awful. Cannot cancel a subscription, credits dont roll over.

I dont see any value added. Why would someone pay your unknown company* an uncancellable yearly fee rather than just go straight to the source clankers?

* I didnt see enough info to tell if you've even got a real company registered. What jurisdiction is it incorporated in?

Also, your previous post is about a different ai service. How am I to know that you won't just abandon this one and move on to something new?

nosioptar··on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang tells Trump we're not going to let an AI slowdown happen
> Tan is particularly enthusiastic about Vice President-elect JD Vance

Wow, this dude really is delusional.

I've never donated $150,000 to a politician. If I did, I dont think I'd feel hopeful about the other candidate winning. (Though, if I had that kind of scratch to donate, it'd go to animal rescues or food banks.)

nosioptar··on OpenAI bots knew about the RubyGems caching vulnerability
Can't you be ordered to pay the legal fees of the person you sued if you lose badly enough?
nosioptar··on OpenAI bots knew about the RubyGems caching vulnerability
They're gonna get to the Epstein stuff right after they get the guy that called Kash Patel names.

nosioptar··on OpenAI bots knew about the RubyGems caching vulnerability
I'd rather see executives and investors charged.

I'm also in favor of charging engineers so long as rich scumbags also get theirs.

nosioptar··on Automattic's board is out after failed attempt to oust CEO Matt Mullenweg
My god, this has been incredibly entertaining.

I wouldn't touch WordPress with someone else's keyboard at this point. But it's still fun to watch.

nosioptar··on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang tells Trump we're not going to let an AI slowdown happen
> Trump and his allies, like Y Combinator CEO Garry Tan

In what way is Tan a trump ally? (I genuinely don't see it.)

A quick search on the FEC website only seemed to show him donating to democratic groups. Hell, he donated $125,000 to the "Harris Victory Fund" in 2024

nosioptar··on NEO Emacs – GPU-Accelerated Emacs Powered by Rust
I'm interested in a multi threaded emacs.

This landing page made sure I lost interest in this attempt.

JFC, who wants animations in their editor?

Also, I set prefers reduced motion on my browser. Pages that are filled with useless animations in spite of my preference tells me the dev is either incompetent as they cannot handle basic accessibility or an asshole because they just don't care.

nosioptar··on Registration without a phone number on Signal will use zero-knowledge proofs
Why would google serve malware and scams in their ad network?

Google is a dodgy company. Placing any trust in them is foolish.

nosioptar··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
Yes, I have seen deli meat. The friend that told me about arby's loaf has also worked in delis.

Have you never seen a company lie about something?

nosioptar··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
The food is pretty vile. Friends that worked their described the "beef" as being a weird loaf of pressurized mewt-like protein before its sliced.

I used to eat there occasionally because it was cheapish many, many years ago.

nosioptar··on Mullenweg has returned as CEO after attempted board ouster
There's an episode of Archer where Archer and another dude have to battle to the death to determine who the new pirate king is.

Maybe Mullenweg killed the interim CEO in combat?

nosioptar··on Registration without a phone number on Signal will use zero-knowledge proofs
I'm not about to trust a google branded device. Even if the Graphene folks are on the up and up, google sure as hell isn't.
nosioptar··on Ask ChatGPT or Gemini the same "best X" twice, ~1/3 of the answer changes
I've found that asking a clanker something like, "you sure about that? Sounds like you're wrong" will usually get it to change its answer.

How people trust any output from these things is beyond me.

nosioptar··on Registration without a phone number on Signal will use zero-knowledge proofs
I really liked silence. I stopped using it when f-droid said the source code was no longer available. Fossify messages is the best replacement I've found.

(I dont bother with encrypted messenging apps. I prefer to assume that anything I do on my phone is doubleplus unprivate. If I want privacy, I head over to my computer.)

nosioptar··on Mark Zuckerberg: "Cambridge Analytica" (2017)
Man, if I'd interviewed with FB and even heard the word "integrity" I'd have started laughing my ass off till I was covered in a puddle of my own piss. Not a single person at facebook has integrity, it's been that way since day one.
nosioptar··on GrapheneOS' rewritten Messages app is released
That sounds like a feature to me.

I don't know anyone under 70 that even has their voicemail set up.

nosioptar··on GrapheneOS' rewritten Messages app is released
All of fossify's apps I've tried have been better than the stock apps.
nosioptar··on Kenyans Did College Students' Homework for Years. Then A.I. Arrived
I never cheated in university.

Before I went, I also made money selling essays/code to lazy students.

nosioptar··on Show HN: Toast, a beautiful by default in terminal IDE
In what way is it "beautiful"?

To me, it's just yet another bland low-contrast dark mode interface.

Also, vim has mouse support. Probably shouldn't use a clanker to write your readme if you're not going to take the time to do a basic fact check.

nosioptar··on Show HN: Stitchwink – Cross-stitch pattern making with AI
I didnt feed it a picture, just text.

The one you posted looks pretty good.

nosioptar··on Show HN: Stitchwink – Cross-stitch pattern making with AI
I know several cross stichers that could be interested in this sort of tool, if it worked. (And obviously if it doesnt look like slop.)

I gave a prompt of a black and white cat. The result was vertical stripes of green and gold...

I'm on Firefox mobile. I've noticed a number of sites have wildly distorted images in Firefox, but work in chromium.

It worked fine in chromium. It does look like slop though. The b/w cat has a white patch on his face that looks kind of like male genitalia...

nosioptar··on Boy developed "toasted skin" condition from using a laptop every day
I worked for one of the "big 7"* OEMs many years ago. The OEM I worked for had recently been sued over people burning themselves with p4 era celerons (temp of about 45,000°C). We were told even using the word " laptop" for a "notebook" was a fixable offense.

I guess my point is that laptop OEMS have known for decades that their product can damage human tissue. Not sure if there's any needed remedy. I just use a laptop bench thing when I use it on my lap.

* I think several are dead, like Compaq and Gateway.
