nor-and-or-not··on What's an SPF Record?
I completely agree!

I'm running an email server for myself since 1998 and in addition some low traffic email servers for a few small companies that I administrate and we have had no delivery problems so far, not even with Google, although I have heard from other people that run their own email servers, that Google occasionally puts delivered emails in the Spam folder.

I always keep an eye if some of our IPs may appear on any of the well known abuse lists, but so far that never has happened. I would guess if once there's coming spam from your mail server IP, it is negatively branded forever.

> Humans have very sophisticated ways of doing it

Which yet has to be proven they are really working in the long way, because we are still on trial. Also let's see if we can retain our humanity whilst surviving as a species.

Perhaps you are confusing kindness with happyness.
nor-and-or-not··on Switching off JavaScript makes me love the internet all over again
Yes, I use Firefox with uMatrix and JavaScript disabled, except for some hand-picked sites where I have JS enabled.

So if a website I open doesn't work without JS and also doesn't show anything when disabling its stylesheet, I simply ignore it and move on. I have no mercy for websites spinning up my laptop's fan.

nor-and-or-not··on What would you do if you lost your Google account?
I guess you're right, but I find it ridiculous anyways to get an account cancelled without further information or dispute.
nor-and-or-not··on What would you do if you lost your Google account?
Sorry if you don't believe it, but I tell the truth here. No need to make things up. The tablet required one to have a Google account connected in order to use it, plain and simple.
nor-and-or-not··on What would you do if you lost your Google account?
Yes, sure - but this wasn't my main issue.

I found it unapologetic to get my account, which I then have used for years, cancelled without any explanation or sign of wrongdoing.

But what should I say. I didn't pay for it so it was well within Googles rights and discretion. At least this made me aware that such behaviour exists.

nor-and-or-not··on What would you do if you lost your Google account?
Those were cheap tablets from Aldi / Medion one could buy in Germany back then and they required a mandatory Google account to use them. Can't remember their name; they cost about 150 Euros back then.
nor-and-or-not··on What would you do if you lost your Google account?
I lost mine a few years ago, since then Google is an absolute no go for me.

Had it for a few years back then and never did anything bad or oblique with it, just used it as my secondary email account and also for deploying a small, harmless Chrome extension to the Chrome store.

So one day my wife bought a tablet and also registered a mandatory account. 1-2 days later my and her Google account was terminated. I mailed support and they told me they couldn't tell me the reason for terminating both accounts. No kidding. Tablet suddenly obsolete. All my emails gone.

Since then Google is a big red flag for me.

Addendum to clarify: They said they won't tell me the reason for terminating my account. I'm sure they could have told me if they wanted to.

nor-and-or-not··on iTerm2 v3.0 Released
I wish, I could take back my upvote, because it's just v3.0 BETA and not the final release.
nor-and-or-not··on Mailr: an open-source webmail client with Gmail-like conversations
There's an existing webmail project which is already using the name Mailr (http://mailr.org/, https://github.com/lmanolov/mailr), although development seems to be on hold.
nor-and-or-not··on Yotaphone
I wonder why there's no Ogg Vorbis besides MP3, AAC, eAAC, eAAC+, AMR, MIDI and WAV in the audio specifications.
nor-and-or-not··on Why I now, unfortunately, hate Hacker News..
About the same here. I'm a member for ~3.5 years and don't comment very often, not to say very seldom (my karma is at 23 points). When I write down my thoughts, I really want to add value to a thread, which I also feel isn't very often. Humble or shy - don't know.

I do frequently vote up good articles regarding programming, hacking, startups, and such things. That's the things I'm interested in since I was a young boy and that's my daily life. I'm a freelancing coder (yes, I see that term as positive, same way as hacking) since '96 and tried my own startups since then over and over. That said, I value good and constructive and sometimes also funny comments and being able to upvote them I frequently do so.

Are my upvotes even counted? I don't know, I don't really care. But I admit it gives a bit of a strange feeling to be "less worth" in a community where you participate - we can argue about that - daily.

Nevermind, just wanted to say.

Small addendum: After submitting this comment I remembered that I wanted to add that I'm from Europe and people not being from the States and therefore in a different timezone often experience to comment on already discussed topics (this also happens on Reddit a lot). Maybe this is also a part of why I'm not commenting that much.

nor-and-or-not··on BRRE: an efficient, principled regular expression library
Impressive indeed. I personally know the author and he also programmed a complete implementation of the ECMAScript (5th edition) in Object Pascal. BRRE is also a part of this.

Sure. For example there's BESEN, which is a complete implementation of the ECMAScript 5th edition standard. Programmed by a single person in Object Pascal.

Ruby's syntax is flexible:

nor-and-or-not··on Early 8-bit Sounds from _why's Bloopsaphone
Tried to add my note to the post, but it seems to be moderated. So here's my comment:

Well, here's another - due to lack of time unfinished - Bloopsaphone tune of mine. It's called "warp-o-mat", which grew out of a test of my FX commands implementation:

Oh, and here's a mp3 of Cheeky Drat, without distortion: http://freQvibez.net/music/cheeky_drat.mp3
