Poe's law in full effect.
noobface··on Facebook let Netflix see user DMs, quit streaming to keep Netflix happy
Bleak and rings true. The worst origin for speculation turned fact.
noobface··on AMD Reveals Next-Gen Desktop Processors for Extreme PC Gaming
Motherboard prices have increased pretty significantly. First comment on this hardforum post a entitled: AMD and Intel motherboard prices skyrocket past surging inflation rates thanks to 35-40% ASP increases[1]:

"Motherboard prices is why I haven't upgraded my CPU. More important things going on right now."

noobface··on Google Promises Unlimited Storage; Cancels; Tells Journalist Life's Work Deleted
The Google drive unlimited policy has been predictably abused by some of the datahoarding and piracy communities. Those groups have been paranoid for[1] a[2] while[3] that this could and was likely to go away, including tracking changes in the way Google marketed this to users.

People with pirated movie collections took this risk more seriously than a guy whose livelihood appears to be inexorably linked with the policy.

noobface··on Spoofing DNS records by abusing DHCP DNS dynamic updates
Active Directory and DHCP go hand-in-hand. Your Domain Controllers aren't always your DHCP servers, but under a certain scale, they very likely are.
noobface··on Even a laptop can run RAM externally thanks to CXL
CXL is a neat tech, but many innovative hardware systems go no where despite hundreds of millions of dollars of work and investment.

I have hopes. I can't help it. Cool shit is inspiring. I, however, am not holding my breath.

noobface··on Love after life: Richard Feynman's letter to his departed wife (2017)
The topic here specifically is his love life. If a person I personally knew was accused of half of what Feynman has been, I'd have second thoughts about inviting them over for dinner.

If you're going to argue for a gradient of perspective while assessing the character of a person there are better examples than Feynman.

noobface··on Quake related work logs (1996)
Move fast, gib stuff.
noobface··on I built Excel for Uber and they ditched it
Everyone should've seen what happened to Cisco and thought better, but short sighted execs focused only on next quarter gladly opened the gates and accepted the horse.

noobface··on Wind and solar will be 25% of U.S. generating capacity within three years
Politics in the US long ago transitioned away from reasoned arguments backed with data. The polarization of parties has created a gulf too wide to scaffold an argument across. The emotional impression is the point, but it's not for you. It's for the people who already prescribe to this dogma. Reading that gets them excited and engaged. Ready to go vote for their "tell it like it is" political party.
noobface··on U.S. Senate bill crafted with DEA targets end-to-end encryption
You sure? This comment looks like a misunderstanding at best and an indictment of your own character at worst. Automatically assuming people who use substances are addicts is extreme and wildly judgmental.
noobface··on 100x Faster Than Wi-Fi: Light-Based Networking Standard Released
Face melting speed.
noobface··on Why are there no startups in the real estate construction sector?
This post is affirmation that the single most reliable method to getting engagement on the internet is to be confidently wrong.
noobface··on Why are there no startups in the real estate construction sector?

noobface··on Amazon cancels my account after exposing account lockout for “racist doorbell” [video]
This is going to be a huge problem in the medical/health vertical. It's one thing to get a BommyTahama pair of sunglasses, it's quite another to get counterfeit supplements that could cause injury.
noobface··on Using ChatGPT for home automation
It's getting cheaper: https://coral.ai/products/

$20 for the SMD TPU isn't bad, but it's definitely at the top end of the BOM for custom PCB projects.

Ideally we'll see some competition with on-package options.

noobface··on Ivy League Schools Sure Look Like a Cartel
Just because the term is used to describe groups of organizations participating in price fixing activity doesn't mean all groups performing price fixing are equal. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartel
noobface··on Vxlan over WireGuard (On OpenBSD)
This is fun, but applications requiring L2 adjacency do it to limit latency/distance. Creating a L2 domain between here and the moon, what are you gonna use it for? Certainly not anything other than fun.
noobface··on GB National Grid Status
Texas and GB seem to have similar levels of demand, but Texas seems to have quite a bit more wind/solar. ERCOT #s: https://p.datadoghq.com/sb/5c2fc00be-393be929c9c55c3b80b557d...
noobface··on AirDrop is now limited to 10 minutes
But options are so complicated and boring. Can I just pay you to pick the best one for me?
noobface··on Amazon’s already greenlit an FTX miniseries
This is a bizarre statement ideally meant in jest. SBF trading naked is not a double entendre I was looking for today.
noobface··on 99Wh Battery Linux Laptop
Yes, but all the drivers are written by the HP printer team.
noobface··on Circadian lighting with Home Assistant: Like f.lux, but for your house
Looks like I was mistaken. We've replaced all the zwave bulbs with Sylvania Osram zigbee-based ones in our new place. Cheapo stuff, but they don't flicker when adjusting temperatures/brightness:

https://www.amazon.com/73742-SYLVANIA-Adjustable-SmartThings...

Smart things has been a bit of a mess lately with their automation related to zigbee. They've got a hotfix rolling out, but it's been a month or two of random lights turning on or refusing to turn off.

noobface··on Circadian lighting with Home Assistant: Like f.lux, but for your house
Done this for the past 6 years running a combo of cheap zwave color temp adjusting lights, smart things, and a smart things app automation called circadian daylight.

Guide/Forum: https://community.smartthings.com/t/circadian-daylight-smart...

Makes the evenings more laid back and I'm able to sleep a bit easier. Well worth the effort to get it setup.

noobface··on Reddit transparency report, 2014

noobface··on Skateboarding Legend Rodney Mullen in Silicon Valley
Great article, but this feels a bit like pseudo-intellectualism. Rodney is a brilliant guy, but like many brilliant people he has trouble articulating his thoughts. He's not an oracle, he's just a very creative person who is desperately passionate. Cherry picking the products of his creativity for some prophetic insight is a disservice to what he's accomplished.
noobface··on Lawrence Lessig Interviews Edward Snowden [video]
That's an implied distinction between leaking NSA programs as they relate to the American public vs releasing international CIA related material.

Very convoluted though. Lessig is just really, really deep into the context. He's clearly been thinking of these questions for so long he lost perspective.

noobface··on Adobe joins the Chromebook party, starting with Photoshop
Probably has something to do with the BLAST browser client that VMware is doing with chromebooks.
