nolongerlowres··on Platforms that have banned or restricted Trump so far
Well, they didn’t ban him because he thinks wrong things. They very clearly banned him because his words on the platform were intended to cause violence and stop the democratic process in the US (but mostly only the former). I think it’d be foolish not to ban people who use Twitter to communicate plans to perform acts of violence. If anything I hope they (along with other platforms) use this opportunity to get better at it.

Don’t forget this is Twitter exercising its right to free speech. If Trump is upset, he’s free to do the same and make his own Twitter-like platform. I’ve seen a few open source ones posted here that he could fork.

nolongerlowres··on School or Prison
Thank you for posting this. I couldn’t believe the other comments trying to equate schools with prison. It’s unbelievable how we treat prisoners in the US. I wish there was more I could do than vote and donate to causes like the ACLU. Starting to realize that my beliefs are in the minority re: how to treat fellow countrymen, even those who have committed crimes.
nolongerlowres··on The U.S. has recorded over 250k cases in a day for the first time
I’ve got over 300,000 dead countrymen and women who, were they still able, would disagree that the numbers are irrelevant. But go ahead and yawn while 3,000+ people die each day gasping for air.

I’m sorry to hear about your wife’s friend. But both examples you gave (people having to fight for further diagnoses of outside-case health problems) are really common with private healthcare in the United States too - we’ve just shifted the burden of cost of treatment/quality of life decisions to private entities who typically are only interested in furthering shareholder value. To give a personal anecdote as well: A close friend of my wife’s had to fight and fight to get insurance to cover appointments in order to get her breast cancer diagnosed.

I would like to understand if the world really does rely on US private-healthcare funded research - I’ve heard this argument mentioned before and have always been curious about it.

I don’t believe publicly posted photos are the privacy issue at hand here. Facebook tracks your activity online and sell it to advertisers regardless of your consent, even if you’ve never created an account in your life. That’s the privacy issue (amongst other things).
nolongerlowres··on Heathrow installs anti-drone system that can locate UAV pilots
That sounds fascinating. What sort of control/GIS software do you use on your laptop? Where would you recommend someone interested in this research to get started?

I know you’re trying to drive home a point and i agree, but is this really feasible for under $1,000? I’d estimate something with these capabilities would be in the $20,000 range at a minimum.
