FYI this type of code-switching is not universally present for everyone though it may be for you. Some people are their "authentic" selves the majority of the time. It is often suboptimal to be that way though.

(As an aside I kind of disagree with the common quote of:
> "Show me your flowcharts and conceal your tables, and I shall continue to be mystified. Show me your tables, and I won't usually need your flowcharts; they'll be obvious"
I find that most software I've worked on is muddy, confusing, and contradictory. Perhaps I will get better with time.)
I broadly agree but I think you're being too pessimistic about not having players. If your game is not novel (or maybe even if it is), I'm sure you can find a community that would enjoy it. Maybe participating in that community counts as marketing to you but I feel like sharing what you have created and marketing what you have created are separate.
Reddit is a good place for this type of discovery. Discords of other niche games in similar/adjacent genres would be another one. I feel like it's not as hopeless as you make it seem!
None of that changes its main societal flaw which is being a walled garden. So much loss of information.
I slack off in office for a similar duration that I do at home. They might be different but the "productivity" is identical if not favoured at home because I'm more comfortable. I'll spend time configuring my nvim or reading some interesting but unrelated technical article/book or getting snacks or HN or reddit in the office. At home I might just take a nap or shower or go to the gym (or do one of the aforementioned things).
People operate differently but for me I'm only going to produce as much value as I believe I'm getting paid for. Not more and not less. I see the request to go back to office as managers believing they can act as a coercive force which might work on some (perhaps many) people.
The modern incarnation of school is, after all, supposed to make you into a good employee.
That being said, TikTok's search capability is kind of useless.
I specify "already know', because sometimes it gets irrelevant/useless information from low quality blogs or stackoverflow. That said, so does Google.
- travel restrictions - mandatory vaccinations - suppression of dissent - stigmatizing individuals
To assert otherwise is ahistorical IMO.
It's unclear to me what device-level and biological surveillance mean. A decade ago Steven Harper was Prime Minister and tried to infringe upon our freedoms much more frequently.
Which pandemic freedoms have not been restored? I'd argue we've moved on to pretending COVID does not exist any way.
That said, I also do not think the author means admin/business related tasks, but non-"coding" things like software design, technical vision, etc.? You might want to look at earlier stage start ups that don't need the management/pseudo-management positions (if it fits your life). Warning that you'll have to jump ship as the startup becomes successful and you get pushed into non-technical roles. :)
Yes. If people only used social media to connect/follow people they know the industry would be making nothing.
