nitinthewiz··on Vagina Oks self-driving car trials on roads
That there is the question!
nitinthewiz··on Vagina Oks self-driving car trials on roads
Did I read that headline right?
nitinthewiz··on LinkedIn Reveal: See LinkedIn the way it was meant to be seen
I only asked for the most basic permissions as detailed on extensionizr.com

The only reason I need "change data on LinkedIn" and "view browsing history" is so we can redirect you to the right profile page.

nitinthewiz··on LinkedIn Reveal: See LinkedIn the way it was meant to be seen
LinkedIn is awesome, except when you land on a user's profile and it's full of holes. There's too much information that's hidden from the public, even though it's actually publicly available.

LinkedIn Reveal changes that. It's a smart Google Chrome extension that shows you what's hidden on LinkedIn user profiles.

I made it, so check it out and ask me what ever you want to about it! :)

nitinthewiz··on Netbot: An App.net Client from Tweetbot Creators
The best part of that is that if the cost decreases further, you don't lose your money, you get more membership time.
nitinthewiz··on Netbot: An App.net Client from Tweetbot Creators
People can post from Netbot to both twitter and App.net. Twitter's TOS doesn't allow the twitter app to post to anything else...
nitinthewiz··on Netbot: An App.net Client from Tweetbot Creators
Your perception and inference are both wrong. App.net isn't just going up against twitter, but rather the entire social networking paradigm where I have multiple signups and not enough use. If we use app.net to login to most major services and post, like I have to do with twitter, facebook and linkedin right now, I get away with a single login.

What'll drive adoption? The developer incentive program. This also answers your John Deere example... There will be a lot of offsprings from App.net. In a rudimentary tone - a fb-clone, an instagram clone, comments systems (bit.ly/qbdebut)etc...

nitinthewiz··on Usenet – what have you become?
And then Fox sued Dish for ad-skipping.

nitinthewiz··on Google Now
Now all they have to do is release the API and someone will Port it to iOS :)
nitinthewiz··on Ask HN: Why don't wantrepreneurs ever launch?
4,8,5 in that order...
nitinthewiz··on An open letter to prospective Indian employer
My perspective on this letter and the issues around it - http://blog.nitinkhanna.com/who-innovates/

I believe that companies need to give people the freedom to innovate. Otherwise they're just code monkeys who care only for the paycheck at the end of the month.

nitinthewiz··on [dead]
Ooooh! Spam! On HN?! Nice...
nitinthewiz··on Which is the best text editor do you prefer?
BBEdit on the Mac for code and common text. iA Writer for thought and blog writing...
nitinthewiz··on Ask HN: Does this exist? A service to auto-enroll your username in new launches?
I feel it's a legit idea. Some of us are really interested in new services. Most importantly, a service should not judge it's success by the number of sign ups (like G+ does) but on the number of interactions/service calls that it's users do over a period of time (twitter way of accounting itself).
nitinthewiz··on Maintaining Hacker News Culture
well, one way forward is to have the moderator's role more clearly defined. This is a society that no one runs in essence. Thus, the good way to deal with it would be a little bit of tech as I described above and some more moderating...
nitinthewiz··on Indian call centres selling your credit card details and medical records
This is a scenario that I have expected to hear about since a long time. Places like India and China are easily prone to corruption and data theft. What needs to be investigated is the role of the administration of such call centers in the theft. After all, why is this data not sufficiently protected by encryption? Why is an employee able to leave the premises with a laptop full of live data and who needs to sign off on such devices. The only way to stop this is to have better security in place for customer data in call center databases.
nitinthewiz··on Ever heard of "Low orbit server stations"?
I'm sure they'll find some countries where simple air balloons by citizens will be allowed. And the real way to go ahead is to think about launching a satellite...
nitinthewiz··on Are universities failing entrepreneurs?
I wasn't talking about student entrepreneurs. I was talking about professors who want to use their time to build businesses while still teaching.
nitinthewiz··on Are universities failing entrepreneurs?
Universities, by nature, have very rigid course structure that must be followed. Add other responsibilities like administrative formalities and deadline based work and universities become the last place an entrepreneur would be found. For example, if you watch the show Numb3rs, one of the issues that the crime-solving math proff has with the university is his lack of presence to teach and guide students. That is, what I believe, the problem with universities. Perhaps the online universities will resolve these issues as there will be faster processes and online paperwork that could be done at leisure. ( I ha e not read the article yet)
nitinthewiz··on Apple Apps Remain Developers’ Favorite Even as Android Spreads
Here's the thing - Devs around the world has spent many working hours learning Objective C and building on it. They are not going to leave that proven profitable avenue for a fragmented Java programming platform any time soon, even though in this case the Java is much easier.
nitinthewiz··on Software Patents are Self-Defeating
Interesting read. I also believe that software patents reduce your own flexibility in work. If you spend the time and money to patent your software, you won't be changing it any time soon, even if you eventually discover that there is a better way to design your product.
nitinthewiz··on Ask HN: Who is likely to benefit from SOPA?
Digamber, I came from India to the US about 2 years ago and it has been a deep learning curve!

You're right that the basic motivation behind the politician's actions are pretty much the same.

However, it is not the Oil and Financial Organisations that stand to gain from SOPA, it is the TV and Film industry. They put in millions of dollars to make movies each year and then do their best to protect their assets. This is not so in India, where it is common knowledge that a movie/song will be pirated within a few hours of it's release.

What's important to know is that if SOPA/PIPA or any other variants are allowed to be passed, they will benefit the Movie industry by giving them the right to shut down practically any website (in a simple way of putting it) without much need for logic. This threatens all the big search and knowledge providers on the internet - Google, Facebook, Wikipedia, Reddit, MegaUpload etc.

The funny thing is, of course, all of this is being done ONLY against Internet users in the US. So, the rest of the world can happily pirate movies and share songs, but US citizens will have to pay the price for SOPA. (HN, correct me if I'm wrong here)
