There are plenty of artefacts that belong to countries who are not in the middle of war. Many stolen artefacts were in fact destroyed or damaged during their shipping to France or Britain. We don't need to go to extremes here, just do the right thing.
Maybe something to do in order to tackle overcrowding in museums is to start returning some of the exhibits back to their origins. The Louvre and the British museum hold a lot of antiquities that were shipped from other countries during colonial times.
I don't think that most people realise what an achievement this is. This is major, three boosters landing simultaneously and one of them is landing on a moving object in the middle of the ocean. And they will reuse the two side boosters for the next FH launch.
I think I prefer the RESTful API idea more than anything because it could keep the architecture decoupled. The only thing that worries me is having issues installing this to client desktops. A lot of our clients are banks and insurance companies so I wouldn't want to create issues with our installation and get things blocked by client IT.
Thanks. I am looking at something similar with Segment to be honest. Bitscoop looks closer to what I am looking but definitely need something fully open source.
I 've been working partly from home in the English countryside and partly from our offices in London for many years now. Definitely wouldn't want to go back to working 100% from an office. There are disadvantages of course working partly or fully from home but having a walk in the mornings with our dog makes me forget them.
I really hope things change for the better. Being from the north of Greece I know first hand the difficulties with the name. I am very passionate about it but I understand we live in a different world. My feeling is that the Greek government and their NATO, EU allies pushed this forward now in order to stop the imperialistic plans of Erdogan in the region. I think with more Balkan countries in the EU, NATO influences start and stop with the West not the Russians, not the Erdoganites.
I've been binge watching Bourdain on Netflix over the last few days. Really really strange to watch one more tonight knowing he is now dead. Very sad news indeed!
From people I spoke to everyone seems concerned with what might happen. It is possible nothing bad happens at all but people cannot trust MS after what happened to a lot of the companies they acquired in the past.
Ooohhh my favourite game of all time. I loved this game, I almost missed my university exams for this. I know a friend of mine who actually didn't speak to his girlfriend for a couple of weeks since he was playing the game.
Like Porsche or Siemens did for the Nazis for example. Nothing wrong there. I wonder how you would feel and what you would say if you were on the other end of these weapons e.g an innocent Afghan civilian.
Prog metal and death metal are my favourites. It is true, growing up in the 80s it would be inevitable but a lot of my school friends were listening to pop music. I think there is definitely a pattern with CS and metal. Not sure why.
I think I would like to see in web design tools some of the principles that people like Alan Kay and Bret Victor laid out over the years. I work in React and I often think that there is a big disconnect with my team and the designers. I do not believe that all web applications need a design tool but many do. I actually think that we should have a unified dev tool that allows us to write code and design interfaces like we 've been doing in Visual Studio for years now when we were developing Winforms.
Hey I am so glad this is working. I talked with you via reddit when you first started working on the project. It looks like it has grown dramatically over the years.
Nice attempt, I looked into this problem too a while ago. Quick question for the OP, I know a lot of enterprise users want to version control their spreadsheets rather than just the code. Have you looked into that? Seems to be a tricky problem to solve.
Wish we could see more software being developed like Bret does it. Been looking for years and still haven’t encountered anything with that degree of freedom and flexibility. His platform game demo is amazing!
I find it hard to see how this kind of voyage could be done with a trireme however in Hellenistic times they were building much larger ships like the Tesseraconter http://www.naval-encyclopedia.com/hellenistic-ships/ . Personally I don't discount the possibility that some Hellenistic ship reached North America but unless proven it is hard to accept all this. I have seen a lot of theories over the years mainly because of the Pytheas journey mentioned below but without evidence they are just theories.
PS: Who knows maybe I do have some ancient ancestry in Canada :)
Ground control to Major Tom or Elon... This is exciting, 3 reusable rockets flying back to Earth playing Space Oddity. I think the car needs a good playlist. Something from 2001 would work plus a bit of metal.
I managed and worked on numerous projects like this and I know what you mean. However there is always a UAT phase that allows us to tackle issues like that. I dont think there was any kind of UAT phase here.
Not sure if that is the case. I have tried everything so far, fingers, nails and the only way is to direct your finger at an angle. These are not the same machines with the ones in Paddington, Victoria, etc. They are brand new and very unresponsive.
On a couple of occasions they refused to do that, not sure why. Still, what is the point of ticket machines and barriers if you are going to wave people through based on bouncer principles.
Not to mention the terrible new ticket machines introduced in train stations across the country, who supposedly have touch screens but require pressing on a specific angle the buttons. The machines have one of the worst UI designs I have ever witnessed which confuses and delays on a daily basis people who just want to go to work.
And let's not mention the new trains that have an LCD display for bookings which is actually not used because they still put reservation papers on top of the seat. I have asked several times ticket inspectors and apparently the booking software doesn't work and often crashes. How hard can it be???
