ninjamayo··on Merry Christmas Everyone
Merry Christmas to everyone! I've read a few great stories in here and thought of sharing mine. My childhood Christmas were never that special unfortunately and during my teen years, life was pretty tough. But I do have great memories from all the Christmas I had my wife over the past 20 years. We established a lot of Christmas traditions for our families, since I never had any from my childhood to share. Actually we just finished watching the Raiders of the Lost Ark and spent two hours talking about great cinema and of course me playing the Indiana Jones game from Lucasarts. Oh wish, I could get back in time and play that game for the first time. Not quite the same playing it these days, the magic unfortunately is gone.

So yeah today was a great Christmas day! All the best to the HN community.

ninjamayo··on Happy New Year HN!
Happy New Year to everyone!
ninjamayo··on OS/2 Warp, PowerPC Edition
Geez, OS2/Warp. Memories! Trying to install it on my 486DX
ninjamayo··on Potassco: The Answer Set Solving Collection
What are the odds of this appearing today in HN? I was only looking yesterday about the current status of Potassco, after an entire decade. I then checked if there was anything recently written about it in HN. And behold, today there is a post.
ninjamayo··on Antikythera Mechanism: An ancient 'computer' that 'shouldn't exist' [video]
For anyone interested, this museum in Thessaloniki Greece: https://www.noesis.edu.gr/en/ancient-greek-technology/ has a lot of very interesting items. If you ever visit the city, worth going there. I was particularly impressed with Syracusia, the giant ship/castle designed by Archimedes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syracusia
ninjamayo··on Blue Origin first human flight
Gongrats to Blue Origin, this was great but when compared to SpaceX its like seeing a bicycle ride compared to a Model S Plaid track on Nuremberg.
ninjamayo··on What happens to all the dead electric-car batteries?
Lithium mining is an issue and can be improved. Lithium on its own ending up in the rivers and sea when it is a valuable commodity? How is that going to happen?
ninjamayo··on What happens to all the dead electric-car batteries?
...which will go through a similar disassembly process and also pollute the environment for as long as it lives.
ninjamayo··on New Alan Turing £50 note design is revealed
I haven't used or seen a £50 note for more than 15 years. In a cashless society who is still using these?
ninjamayo··on New details on military UFO sightings
Lex (Fridman) has been trying for a while in his latest podcasts to invite scientists to investigate the phenomenon. Treat it like any other scientific exploration, with an open mind and led by data and evidence. Evidence of UFOs does not equate necessarily to alien life. This could be a unique natural phenomenon.
ninjamayo··on Live feed of Starship SN10 flight test [video]
SpaceX seems to have mastered the belly flop. Landing is getting there.
ninjamayo··on Live feed of Starship SN10 flight test [video]
Incredible to watch although landing was a bit rough and Starship is leaning.

What an achievement SpaceX!

Next test?

ninjamayo··on Starship – SN8 – High-Altitude Flight Test
I am partially from the UK but I imagine you need citizenship to work for a rocket company like SpaceX.
ninjamayo··on Starship – SN8 – High-Altitude Flight Test
Unfortunately for a lot of us outside the US, this is just a dream.
ninjamayo··on Starship – SN8 – High-Altitude Flight Test
I rewatch that launch every time I am low and always makes me happy. But this feels different. It feels like it is the beginning of the space age.
ninjamayo··on Starship – SN8 – High-Altitude Flight Test
From Elon: Successful ascent, switchover to header tanks & precise flap control to landing point!
ninjamayo··on Starship – SN8 – High-Altitude Flight Test
By far the most amazing launch and rocket I've ever seen. This is history in the making!
ninjamayo··on SpaceX test flight of Starship SN-5 [video]
This was incredible. I've been waiting to see this launch for months, especially after a few failures with previous versions. But it's all worth it. This is it! Next step will be even bigger and better. More hops, reigniting the engine and then 20km.
ninjamayo··on Silurian Hypothesis: Were There Civilizations on Earth Before Humans? (2018)
There is a general misconception that advanced modern technology equates to an advanced civilisation. Looking back to ancient Greece, Mesopotamia or Egypt there were a lot of interesting ideas implemented in those societies that we haven't even thought of today. Ancient Greece had a very interesting healthcare system for example which was passed down to ancient Rome in some form. A lot of countries today have advanced weaponry, rockets, digital computing but haven't managed to implement a solid healthcare or education system.
ninjamayo··on Ask HN: How are you holding up?
Watching Starship on NASASpaceFlight getting built bit by bit everyday actually really helps.

Joking aside, I've been working from home with my wife for years but not being able to plan or have any holidays has been the biggest problem for us. I know, I know, 1st world problems and all but still feels crap. From a different perspective though, this situation gave us more opportunities to find our more about ourselves and our partners.

ninjamayo··on SpaceX successfully launches two humans into orbit
Well done SpaceX, this is a historic day. Next Starship!
ninjamayo··on Nicomachean Ethics
Yeah Thucydides is a must read, especially some of the speeches.
ninjamayo··on Ask HN: What are you learning?
I am trying to learn how to draw too and finding it very hard. I am using a Wacom tablet and man is hard to draw like that. I am learning face drawing at the moment and it seems impossible. More practice I guess.
