All of us who never hooked the dreamcast up to the internet.

This sounds like you're describing the back story of WALL-E
nilamo··on US Copyright Office found AI companies breach copyright. Its boss was fired
1) art museums, specifically the Smithsonian, but nearly every major city has a decent one.

2) state parks are pretty rad.

nilamo··on The FTC puts off enforcing its 'click-to-cancel' rule
And there's no longer a CFPB to help you when it happens...
nilamo··on CLion Is Now Free for Non-Commercial Use
Why would you pay for a product and never want it to improve your workflows?
nilamo··on Apple violated antitrust ruling, judge finds
So now we're assuming that the Netflix app does not know which domain it considers safe?
nilamo··on Redis is open source again
> Rails 8 has moved Redis functionality into the database by default, which works fine.

Databases could always do what redis did. Redis doesn't bring functionality to the table, it brings speed. If database caching, pub/sub, and streams are good enough for your use case, there was never a reason to pay for an extra instance just to stand up redis.

nilamo··on Apple violated antitrust ruling, judge finds
Why does it need to be labeled at all? Is opening netflix.com while in the Netflix app really an external website?
nilamo··on Petition to the Open Source Initiative: Publish the Full 2025 Election Results
The Office of Special Intelligence protects the world from dangers we would rather pretend didn't exist.
nilamo··on First Successful Lightning Triggering and Guiding Using a Drone
A sniper rifle does the same, with a single shot, more reliably and without witnesses.
nilamo··on Whistleblower details how DOGE may have taken sensitive NLRB data
"Defunded" NPR gets less than 2% of their income from the government. Defunding them isn't as big of a deal as claims appear.
nilamo··on SpacetimeDB
That definition of real time is not good enough for things like pacemakers, where real time really does actually matter.
nilamo··on Hackers strike Australia's largest pension funds in coordinated attacks
Something so major (global finances), over an issue so minor (fraud on an individual basis)? Serious organizations don't play games like that.
nilamo··on Restructuring Announcement
If that were true, Research and Development couldn't exist.
nilamo··on Supervisors often prefer rule breakers, up to a point
> I think you'll never find a case where someone got in trouble for not being a hero

Very much depends on country: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duty_to_rescue

nilamo··on Restructuring Announcement
Why does the interest rate matter? Unless you have no cash on hand and are operating soley off debt??
nilamo··on Stop syncing everything
Exactly. Hard to improve on something so great.

We love a

``` select {what} from {where} left join {where} on {how} where {why} ```
A simple query, concisely answering every relevant question, while hiding all of the details of how any of it works. Beautiful.
nilamo··on Stop syncing everything
I heavily disagree with the notion that most developers would rather query with something that isn't SQL.
nilamo··on US Marines to get high-speed, radar-evading electric seagliders for rescue ops
- Very fast - avoids radar/detection - water based
My first assumption is that this is for stealth ops. "Rescue" doesn't need those features.
nilamo··on I asked police to send me their public surveillance footage of my car
If the results of that determination only apply after I'm dead, then their definition of good is not entirely relevant to me.
nilamo··on 2025 Tariff Impacts at Puget Systems
Shocked that increased costs lead to increased prices. Absolutely floored. No one could have predicted this.
nilamo··on Age Verification Laws: A Backdoor to Surveillance
You were wrong in both cases! The GP went to Chicago and spit on people just to prove a point /s
nilamo··on The Champion Who Memorized 80 Numbers in 13.5 Seconds
Especially such a long survey. My curiosity died when I was on step 5 and not even 25% done yet. Like, y'all want me to try this, or not?
nilamo··on 'Everybody is looking at their phones,' says man freed after 30 years in prison
Do you never travel? Go camping? Spend more than 12 hours away from a charging location? Seems so stressful for a minor benefit :/
nilamo··on Twitch limiting uploads to 100 hours, deleting the rest starting April 19th
Are there really 5+ day nonstop playthroughs? Are there just hours of no content while the streamer eats/sleeps? Why wouldn't that be split into multiple parts by the streamer, as a natural consequence of how it was recorded?
nilamo··on After layoffs, Meta rewards top executives with a substantial bonus increase
Yeah, and the multiple new cars that the owner bought were completely coincidental. Seeing the record of one loan forgiven, and then two weeks later a new PPP loan was obtained using the DBA name of the company, and the owners home address so it looked like a different business, and then also seeing the new lambo suv...
As much as you claim it had to be used on salaries, it mostly wasn't. That's why it's called fraud.
nilamo··on Bybit loses $1.5B in hack but can cover loss, CEO confirms
Those all sound like stated objectives of crypto.
nilamo··on DOGE has 'god mode' access to government data
Yeah, all of every American's banking information being permanently exposed is a totally OK cost for "improvements".
nilamo··on The Generative AI Con
I don't think Google search is useful, as a developer. The top results are all garbage, unrelated, or ads. Going past the first page used to be useful, now it's not. Honestly, it's so bad, that I straight up do not believe you that you use Google to find new information.
DuckDuckGo/Kagi are where good search is at.
nilamo··on SolarWinds to Be Acquired by Turn/River Capital
Right, that's much worse.
