nightlifelover··on Introducing Jonathan Nadeau, new FSF campaigns intern
Soo this is how the Taliban recruit new people..
nightlifelover··on Nvidia's quad-core Kal-El demos next-gen mobile graphics, blow minds (w/ video)
it can, you are doing something wrong
nightlifelover··on Nvidia's quad-core Kal-El demos next-gen mobile graphics, blow minds (w/ video)
Why did Apple break up with Nvidia..? Now they have to face the competition.
nightlifelover··on Brick Nintendo before they brick you
I'm sick with this free software ethics bullshit. I would sue them if I were Nintendo.
nightlifelover··on Intel Reinvents Transistors Using New 3-D Structure
The quantum tunneling effect [1] is what you are referring to, right?

nightlifelover··on Show HN: Crush notifier, a weekend project
Heh now I just crush notified some of my friends lol .. wondering about their reaction :D
nightlifelover··on Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal)
Soooooo cool that they realized that every keyboard has a windows key!!! Instead of adapting the ms shortcuts, they find different shortcuts which do the same, how great is that?!
nightlifelover··on Effect of memory bandwidth on GPU performance
No comment about that?! We need faster DRAM!!
nightlifelover··on Rails 3.1 shipping with CoffeeScript
Just wondering is there a framework like Rails written in JS? Using JavaScript and V8 on the server side makes a lot of sense since V8 is much faster then the Ruby interpreter..
nightlifelover··on Ship Firefox 4, 5, 6 and 7 in the 2011 calendar year
heh I don't take them serious anymore until FF 4 comes out of beta..
nightlifelover··on In Norway, Start-ups Say Ja to Socialism
> If you have less to lose, you're more willing to take risks.

Completely disagree, social security has rather a negative on the willingness of the population to take risks. In countries with high social securities, such as Switzerland or Germany there are less startups founded on average. People instead are in a kind of security thinking and take the most safe jobs, get an insurance for everything, etc..

nightlifelover··on My mom's experience with an iPad
These posts make me think I should no longer follow ycombinator.. I have a hard time keeping up with all the posts, if you post that much irrelevant stuff.
nightlifelover··on Chrome Extension: Python Shell
How is a Python shell related to the browser? I mean if you had a Python API available to google chrome, or if you could browse the DOM tree it would be useful..
nightlifelover··on Google Engineer bails out student in jail
lol at the US! Sounds like the police in a third world state.
nightlifelover··on Ask HN: Why is there so little innovation in education?
There is innovation: khanacademy.com
nightlifelover··on Mark Zuckerberg Named TIME’s 2010 Person of the Year
Facebook is sooo 2009, time.com seems to just have no balls to make Assange the person of the year.
nightlifelover··on Programming Languages to watch in 2011
Agree with R, but certainly not with Go (not even google is dedicated to make this the next big language, they call it an "experiment") ActionScript is Flash, right?! I would say JavaScript..

And Scala and Scheme? Maybe some academics use that, but I don't know a business which relies on it.

nightlifelover··on Ask HN: Is there any market for creative coders?
Heh I have been thinking about this too lately, since enterprise software tends to be deadly boring..
nightlifelover··on BSD For Linux Users: Intro
And maybe Tarsnap?;) Thx for the excellent answer.
nightlifelover··on BSD For Linux Users: Intro
Yes I know that, so it's probably worth the time to look into a newer FreeBSD release. I wonder if it works well on a laptop.
nightlifelover··on BSD For Linux Users: Intro
I wonder if anybody still uses BSD.. AFAIK some companies (for example stackoverflow) use OpenBSD as firewall, but FreeBSD? Yahoo used it but then switched over to Linux.
nightlifelover··on I Quit Hacker News
no u didn't
nightlifelover··on London Stock Exchange hires 81 C++ developers for delayed Linux system
That mythical man month is BS, there are lots of open source project with hundreds of contributors..

I wonder what kind of skill they are looking for specifically? (Education, experience, etc)

nightlifelover··on Fedora To Eventually Move to Wayland Too
Yes but I still find it kinda dumb that Nvidia is not involved in the decision making about the future of the Linux desktop, since they were the only ones which provided working drivers in the last years for Linux.
nightlifelover··on Creators Admit Unix, C Hoax
Why do people post such bs? Ever tried writing anything larger in assembly? C was a huge step and they got most of it right.
nightlifelover··on Apple deprecates XServe
Yes, just look at the iPhone/-Pad sales.. then look at the Xserve sales. Makes sense.
nightlifelover··on Google Sues The US Government For Only Considering Microsoft Solutions
Like what other solution?
nightlifelover··on Google sues feds over Microsoft-centric bidding requirement
Provide something better. I really mean it, there is no alternative which is qualitatively equivalent to MS exchange. Same for the office. Google has their cloud products, but I don't think that any government should have to store their data on googles servers.
nightlifelover··on Offer HN: Advice from PhD on NLP, machine learning, and data monetization
Heh data monetization sounds good.. what about skill monetization? I'm getting a MS in computer science but am unsure what to do with it..

I'm particularly frustrated with brainless Java / .net development jobs.

nightlifelover··on Is the Linux Desktop Dream Dead?
Yes it is.
