nie100sowny··on Motorola announces a partnership with GrapheneOS
I guess it's rathet hard to satisfy GrapheneOS requirements in 200 bucks budget. Things like at least 5 years of updates.
nie100sowny··on Motorola announces a partnership with GrapheneOS
Here it's Google not wanting to certify GrapheneOS I think, despite their valuable contributions to the AOSP.
nie100sowny··on Ask HN: Kotlin SpringBoot vs. Python Django for Min Viable Product
Sorry, I meant exposed.
nie100sowny··on Ask HN: Kotlin SpringBoot vs. Python Django for Min Viable Product
Friend, avoid those leaky abstractions with milions of pages of docs for all cost!

Just use Kotlin+Ktor/http4k+Exposed+Postgres or alternatively more old school Java+Javalin/http4j+JOOQ+Postgres.

Benefit from serverless or services like GCP cloudrun

nie100sowny··on The anti-inflation pivot of 2022
A better analogy would be a strong wind collapsing big and old trees :)
nie100sowny··on The anti-inflation pivot of 2022
I think you refer to the long unemployment.

Crisis time needs to be shortened then. Banks should raise rates firmly, reaching levels higher than inflation. Big companies should not be artificially saved from collapsing, and regulations simplified. The unemployment period will be then short.

nie100sowny··on The anti-inflation pivot of 2022
> A generation of young people whose education was blighted by COVID lockdowns, will face a closed labour market.

But shortly after, when all inefficient companies bankrupt, they'll wake up in the booming economy, finding places in perspective businesses.

Crisis is good for the economy in the long term. I only worry that governments won't allow young trees to grow after the forest's fire.

nie100sowny··on Wrong by Default
I wonder why in the middle of 2022 people still put pre-2011 and pre-JDK7 snippets. And even try-with-resources example is not all what JDK7 provides, there are better, high-level utilities added which haven't got a proper attention.

Namely, in JDK7 and newer, you can just write: Files.readAllBytes(Path.get("story.txt"))

nie100sowny··on Ask HN: What is your spiritual practice?
> I’ve found that Jesus is less about religious tradition and more about understanding who God is and what He has done, what His Will is, and doing it. In the heart of one who truly believes in Christ, this order increases our love and joy in God.

It's very difficult to understand it alone. And that's the reason why Jesus created the Apostolic Church and all of its tradition. To save people from this World and lead them to God. That's the goal number one for the Church and Christians as well.

nie100sowny··on Ask HN: What is your spiritual practice?
Traditional Catholic here. I go to the "Mass of all time" every Sunday. I pray and read the daily texts of the mass. From time to time, I recite the Holy Rosary (which I find a wonderful contemplation method). I examine my conscience and confess my sins regularly. I also like to listen to recordings about the Saints of the Catholic Church - unbelievable people.

I appreciate a lot the traditional Catholic doctrine. It's wonderful to see its resurrection and many young priests motivated to preach it in the opposition to the old protestantized Church leaders.

I have been considering myself just as deist until I've learned how amazing is a Catholic philosophy. Did you know, for example, that Saint Thomas Aquinas found a way to determine if the creation have soul (like humans) or not (like animals)? Including extraterrestrial life!

nie100sowny··on Wish HN: Happy Holidays
May the newborn Jesus Christ free us from this world and show us the way to God.

Merry Christmas to the Hacker News community!

nie100sowny··on Traditionis Custodes
I feel sorry for all traditional Catholics and for the pope Benedict XVI whose efforts were destroyed during his lifetime.

Apparently, the open Catholic Church build by Pope Francis won't be so open :/

nie100sowny··on The end of the pandemic is near
It's strange that oxygen cannot be transported at night. In Europe all the critical and big volume transports goes often at night (wind turbines parts, ship components etc.)
nie100sowny··on Ask HN: How can I escape my third-world country?
Place where there is no free speech is not modern for sure.
nie100sowny··on Facebook announces policy changes ahead of 2020 elections
1. Providing Authoritative Information on Voting During the Pandemic

We hear it all the time (especially in Europe):

- irresponsible people would not secure their retirement so the state needs to force them to do it,

- irresponsible people would not fasten the seatbelt so law must force them to do so,

- irresponsible people would not vaccinate their children etc.

But when elections are coming, all these irresponsible people will wisely choose the best president, after detailed investigation of the economical treaties. Pure absurd.

I like the idea of Fredrich Hayek - everyone votes only once in the whole life at age between 40 and 45 years. (Assuming the cadence is 5 years). Only interested ones.

nie100sowny··on Doordash and Pizza Arbitrage
We really need a true crisis. Free market economy needs to let such companies to buncrupt. Lesson must be learned.

Unfortuanetelly looking what FED is doing, it won't happen soon :(

nie100sowny··on France offers each cyclist €50 for bike repairs once lockdown ends
Instead of €50. The government could make €70 tax relief. Then there would be no need to transfer (€50 x millions of bike owners) through the government's hands and to waste peoples effort on serving the whole operation.

The only reason why it is not like that is because politicians like to have our money which gives them power and makes the state bigger and bigger.

nie100sowny··on Coal Is Now the World's Most Expensive Fossil Fuel
Thank you. The calculation is right. It is just wrong price labeling. Coal costs 66$ oil 27$ It is fixed now.
nie100sowny··on Coal Is Now the World's Most Expensive Fossil Fuel
Yeah, you need to split crude oil into simpler fuels and gases to burn it efficiently, so it looks even worse for crude oil.
nie100sowny··on Coal Is Now the World's Most Expensive Fossil Fuel
I totally agree. Additionally in times of crisis or recession coal price may also drop as all industry related materials.
nie100sowny··on Coal Is Now the World's Most Expensive Fossil Fuel
Bloomberg's journalists should really start to consult their articles with some experts...

First of all, oil is still not cheaper than coal in terms of energy efficiency:

1 oil barrel is equal to 159 kilograms.

1 metric ton is equal to 1000 kilograms.

oil heat of combustion = 47 MJ/kg (optimistically)

coal heat of combustion = 25 MJ/kg

https://world-nuclear.org/information-library/facts-and-figu...

coal price per metric ton from article = $66.85

oil price per barrel from article = $26.98

Which give us:

coal: 25 [MJ/kg] * 1000 [kg] = 25000 MJ / 66.85$ = 374 [MJ per $]

oil: 47 [MJ/kg] * 159 [kg] = 7473 [MJ] / $26.98 = 276 [MJ per $]

Secondly, we have regulations and limits on coal and some artificial anti free market regulations on renewable. So comparing it does not make any sense. You newer know what would be a price of renewable energy in total without these regulations.

Thirdly, as a homework please make a similar calculation for wood :)

nie100sowny··on Fed to inject $1.5T to prevent ‘unusual disruptions’ in markets
Coronavirus is not a cause, but it is just an igniter.

The true cause of a crisis is pumping money into institutions which should bankrupt years ago. Pumping because we were too much afraid of normal crisis back then and now we get that crisis, but multiplied by 10 in terms of impact and time period.

Crisis is good in economy. It let big, old and damaged trees to fall and to give more sun light to small healthy trees which may start to grow.

Instead of pumping money into stock market which only feeds the richest ones, we should let them bankrupt to make a space for more healthy businesses. Unfortunately people on average do not understand it and still elect interventionists. It postpones crisis, increases income gap and make crisis at the end much more damaging.

We are very close to see a bankruptcy of Italy. Then banks which bought their bonds will follow. With the Deutche Bank on top.

nie100sowny··on Highest French court reclassifies Uber drivers as employees
More money goes to government.

Less (or in the best case the same amount of) money will stay in Uber driver pockets because of the taxes

Less money in people's wallets because of the higher transportation costs.

Who have more money have more power :/ This is how we loose freedom

nie100sowny··on Hong Kong protests: Footage shows tear gas being fired into the crowd
The article looks like some manipulation. These people protest against the extradition act between Honk Kong and China. After this Honk Kong will lose some part of autonomy.

It is not pro-democracy manifestation. West journalists are a democracy fanatics :/ Can some Chinese write what is really going on in Hong Kong?

Additionally, I have not seen this kind of worried articles about France protest and president Macron :/

Last but not least, I am sad that no one in my country and other European countries pretested when extradictions acts were signed with USA. Looks Hong Kongers are more proud. Good luck.
