nickmain··on Show HN: Virtual breadboard in the browser, inspired by Ben Eater's 6502
Does not support Safari.
nickmain··on Show HN: Muse – Tool for Thought on iPad
Sign-in-with-Apple might be acceptable here, allowing the user to opt for an app-specific anonymous email. But the lack of explanation is baffling.
nickmain··on Show HN: Python on iOS Native Apps
This [0] is an equivalent/tracking project. I would be very interested if it gains iOS support.

nickmain··on Show HN: Python on iOS Native Apps
As long as there is no downloading, side-loading or user editing of python code in the app then Apple doesn't care.

There are limited exceptions for apps that teach programming, such as Pythonista.

nickmain··on Racket is 25
I've used Racket for many prototype languages and tools and love its facilities and philosophy. The thing that always gives me pause when considering it for a new project is that it has no robust mobile or client-side web story.

If the tool lives on beyond prototype then I have to rewrite it in a native language or restrict it to the subset of Scheme that can run in Gambit on iOS.

I really hope that Racket can evolve and adapt to a world where more computing and even development is going to happen on mobile and web.

nickmain··on Build Your Own WebAssembly Compiler
JavaScriptCore and JS running in a web page using WKWebView are both running in the same app process and do not support WASM since they cannot generate code (cannot write to executable memory pages).

SFSafariViewController does support WASM by executing in a separate more privileged process but interaction with the app is very limited.

nickmain··on Racket Is an Acceptable Python
Python runs on iOS, Racket does not. The need for a JIT to make Racket performant also makes it unlikely that it ever will.
nickmain··on SwiftWasm: Run Swift in Browsers
Unfortunately WASM on iOS could only be interpreted, not JITed, due to protected memory.

Also WASM works in Mobile Safari and SFSafariViewController, but not in WKWebView - which limits its interaction with an app.

Codea [0] provides a nice Lua development sandbox and will export projects that can be turned into standalone apps via Xcode.

It is geared towards game development and is currently somewhat locked down with respect to importing/exporting, compared to Pythonista. It does play well with Working Copy [1] though.

nickmain··on Blender 2.8
Is anyone else worried about about the future of Blender on macOS with the deprecation of OpenGL in favor of Metal ?

This thread offers some hope, but there is still no definitive roadmap: https://lists.blender.org/pipermail/bf-committers/2018-Decem...

nickmain··on Apple launches coding camps for kids in its retail stores
Pythonista cannot open code from other apps so all code has to originate in the app (other than copy-paste).

Swift Playgrounds can round-trip with XCode.

nickmain··on Amzi Prolog becomes open source
I think the downloads are v9 which is still a commercial product.

The very stable 9.x release of the software will remain as a supported commercial version.

This caused me to investigate the native text substitution on OS X and I found it that it is actually OK for most basic needs.

nickmain··on HaxeDevelop: A Haxe IDE on Windows
IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition has a decent Haxe plugin.
nickmain··on Avian: a lightweight alternative to Java that runs on iOS and Android
How does it JIT on iOS given that normal apps cannot write to executable memory ?
nickmain··on J-Bob – The proof assistant from “The Little Prover”
I have the book but haven't opened it yet. Can someone who has comment on whether the proof assistant is tightly integrated with Scheme or whether it might be possible to implement it in another language such as Clojure ?
