Discovered AnonAddy (which my friends and I call AnonDaddy) last week and I'm in love. The reply function works perfectly. I cannot stop suggesting it to people.

Unfortunately HackMD rejects the anonaddy.com TLD, so I've had to use my "real" address there, but so far everywhere else it works fine. A clever friend realized you can register a new github account with an anonaddy address and use that to connect to HackMD. Smart.

Great service. Free tier is great. Will probably end up paying and adding my own domain for the odd site that rejects theirs.

The only feature I'd like is greater bandwidth allowance per month on the lite plan. Current limits are 10MB per month free tier, 50MB on $1/mo lite tier, and unlimited on Pro. But fair enough.

nicholascamera··on Facebook Container for Firefox
Do not use Temporary Containers.

This extension to Multi-Account Containers looks great at first -- its Automatic mode spins up a new container each time you open a new tab, then switches that tab to an existing container, should one be associated with the TLD you visit.

The problem is that Temporary Containers does not delete these temporary containers. They accumulate in the MAC containers list. There is no way to mass delete them, nor set them to auto-delete when the tab is closed.

These WILL sync to your Firefox account and reappear on every machine. Over 3000 temp container made MAC unusably laggy. This was so destructive of my MAC experience that I uninstalled both extensions. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, there is no way to reset the data MAC syncs to Firefox Account.

I will give this a shot!

That's $67 before taxes. I'm with Virgin (not a recommendation). They tend to call every 6 months (less lately) and ask if I'm happy. I always say it costs too much and I want more data. They gave me two bonus packages (something like $5 for 1GB or 2GB). That's how I got to relatively cheap 13GB.

Nowadays they just look at other plans and say, nope, you're on something better than anything we offer now.

FWIW Fizz is the new hotness here. They have worse coverage outside of metros, cheaper base plans, zero phone customer service (problem for negotiating cheaper deals I imagine), and rollover data, which Virgin does not.

Wow, teach me how! I pay $67 for 13GB data and $60 for 40mpbs at home in Montreal. Which province?
nicholascamera··on Indie.vc: Unicorns Are Out, Profits Are In
I live in Montreal and intend to do a consumer oriented software startup. I would like to better understand what I would be getting into starting up here, vs. applying to YC. Can you suggest resources for understanding Canadian startup landscape, funding etc.?

Perceived Pros:

- Many STEM grads

- Gaming and AI industry, 2+ top AI schools

- Relatively little competition for engineering talent compared to SV

- Many engineers who are barred entry to US based on country of origin

- Easier work visas (to be confirmed)

- Free healthcare and other social services, and less violence

Perceived Cons:

- Cultural lack of ambition, entrepreneurial dreaming.

- Excessive reliance on government subsidy (the government is the customer)

- Risk averse VC

- Shallow bench of experienced operators to mentor, invest, and manage

- Brain drain to SV of best talent

- Higher taxes

nicholascamera··on Firefox Reality
It is very odd how vague their product description page is. Naming a product Firefox Reality seems like good marketing: what could be a better brand than all of Reality? However in reality, their site doesn’t say exactly what parent says: Firefox Reality is a browser built for (standalone) XR devices.
nicholascamera··on Inkscape launches versions 0.92.4 and 1.0 alpha
I work at a fab lab. We love Inkscape and I train many people to use it each week. Our workshops are exclusively Inkscape focused. Illustrator takes a back seat.

On Mac, xQuartz is a bad sticking point. The unusual ctrl/cmd key swap is difficult to remember. The XQuartz preferences are difficult to parse and must be changed upon install — even I refer to the instructions on the Mac download page every time. A first class Mac app would make it a much easier sell.

We still use v 0.91 as 0.92 moved from 90 dpi svg to 96 dpi svg, to conform to web svg. This can cause problems with our laser cutter software. More important, opening files authored in 0.92 in 0.91 can change the physical size of the drawings. I believe the sizes remain correct if defined in a physical measurement (ie anything but pixels), but some extensions generate svgs whose dimensions are nevertheless affected when opened in the older software. This issue, and the occasional crashing on windows when pasting an image copied from elsewhere, are the only problems I face with this excellent software. Bravo!

The best part of moving day is the free stuff! Everyone is having garage sales and sharing items for trade or for free on Troquer c’est gratos and other Facebook groups.
