nhorob67··on Startup School 2017 First Lecture
I've had a consultancy do all the development so far. They are good, but not cheap.

Hoping to bring that in-house later this year.

Farm accounting software. Boring to most, exciting to me! Just maybe that's a key

Interesting how Moskovitz just glosses over a "lifestyle" business. I started a business 2 years ago, am the sole employee, and it'll make $400-500k in revenue in 2017 with 20-40% net profits.

I don't think I recreated the wheel here. I'm making a software product that businesses want to buy.

nhorob67··on What's The End Goal for Wealthfront and Betterment? (2016)
Thank you for this. My thoughts exactly
nhorob67··on Ask HN: What was your greatest accomplishment in 2016?
Launched a bootstrapped farm management software product in June (https://www.harvestprofit.com).

Recently eclipsed $100k in ARR as a solopreneur. Goal is $1 million in 2017 and to hire a full-time dev and a couple support staff.

My biggest lesson is that email marketing is the real deal.

nhorob67··on Confession: I Don’t Think Uber Is Actually a Great Business (Yet)
How could Uber have negative gross margin? I have a hard time believing that.

I guess it depends on what they include in COGS.

Startup valuations drive me crazy. Preferred stock is not common stock!

This article says they sold a 1.6% stake, derived by taking the amount raised divided by the valuation. Once again, preferred stock is not common stock.

nhorob67··on Show HN: Gridmaster – A Code School for Learning Spreadsheets
I recently offered an Excel for Farmers email-based video course. 279 sales. Avg price of $21.

It's been a good way to generate a bit of revenue for my bootstrapped business. But maybe more valuable as a way to generate leads for our software business (spreadsheets can't do everything!).

nhorob67··on Show HN: Make an app by adding JSON to this app
Native app newbie here. Can this solution be used to present data tables?
nhorob67··on Ask HN: What cool development languages/tools changed your career?
We just switched some of our back-end code to Phoenix in our farm management web app (https://www.harvestprofit.com/).

Your username intrigues me....what are you working on?

nhorob67··on Ask HN: $1k+ side projecters, what was the best thing you did to market it?
Both. Mostly I send people to blog posts that contain some sort of an email optin in. But I've also regargeted website visitors via FB's pixel with good success.

All-in-all, I'm fan of "slow sell" via an email newsletter and FB's been great for getting people onto my list.

nhorob67··on Ask HN: $1k+ side projecters, what was the best thing you did to market it?
Facebook ads to blog posts. I've seen a 10.5x return on my investment so far. For my farm software company: http://harvestprofit.com
nhorob67··on Ask HN: Single Person startup/company?
I've been collecting emails for 9 months, primarily by spending $3k on Facebook ads to send traffic to blog posts. 1,500 emails so far.

My acquisition process right now is a "call me to sign up" after showing prospects a demo video. Not ideal. I'm working on making the app (filled with a model farm's data) live for users to test for a couple days (gated behind an email opt-in) and then allow them to sign up online. We'll see!

nhorob67··on Ask HN: Single Person startup/company?
I launched a suite of farm business software tools 3 weeks ago at http://harvestprofit.com. 8 customers and approx $8k ARR so far.

Price point is high enough where it's not likely a quick purchase but too low for an inside sales team. I'm working hard on content marketing to build trust in the market place to drive user growth while keeping my team small (just me so far)
