neuigkeiten··on SiriusXM buys Pandora for $3.5 billion
I used Pandora in the distant past.

These days I mainly use http://www.gnoosic.com for recommendations and then look for the artists on the web, Youtube, Bandcamp, Soundcloud etc.

Not sure if that makes me one of a kind?

This approach gives me more of a "discoverer" feeling then using one monolithic service that spoon feeds me my musical life.

neuigkeiten··on Amazon Key is a new service that lets couriers unlock your front door
It will be very interesting to see if this gets traction.

I would never ever give a company access to my home. But maybe the next generation will not have a sense of privacy at all. But rather accept that mankind kind of grows together into one huge brain.

From my perspective, I wonder: Are there not enough places where Amazon can drop off packages? In my street, all kinds of shops will accept parcels for you.

Are new houses these days built with "drop off" areas that can be opened with an access code?

Wow, complete redesign? Sounds dangerous. Why dont they make incremental changes and ab-test the impact?

neuigkeiten··on Is It Cheaper to Stay in an Airbnb ‘Entire Home’ Rental or a Hotel?
Well, some startups might try to fuck with the law. German courts stick to it though:

The problem with AirBnB is that they want you to scan your id card and send it over the internet. Which is illegal here in Germany. I would not use a company that wants me to do illegal things in the first place.

Additionally they want access to your Facebook account, which I find offensive as well.

I travel a lot in Europe. Since I prefer to stay in apartments over staying in hotel rooms, my approach is to look up local apartment rental sites. Usually I find good deals this way. I only stay in hotels if I absolutely must. Apartments are so much nicer.

neuigkeiten··on Growth vs. Retention
I wonder how you would value sites like Rap Genius this way. It is pretty much an SEO play, so I would expect only a very small fraction of users to come back.
neuigkeiten··on Show HN: Discovery for Periscope, Meerkat, Twitch
It came back with nothing for many queries. How does it work?
neuigkeiten··on Genius API
What happened to the Soundcloud API?
neuigkeiten··on [dead]
My experience on the site:

    1) I click on "write a post". Hmm.. no list that matches what i want to post.
    2) So I click on "Full List". Nothing happens.
    3) I want to go back with the back button. The back button does not work.
That is it.

Dudes.. I appreciate your fancy animations and that you do a decentralized whatever. But what I would like even more: if stuff works!

neuigkeiten··on Raven paradox
Maybe we can solve this via a monte carlo simulation?

Create random worlds with random object categories that have random color distribution.

Then let two agents experience one object after another and make assumptions about the object categories.

One agent will only take into account objects of the same category. So he will only learn about ravens when he sees a raven.

The other agent will take into account all objects to learn about every category.

Then measure which agent makes the better assumptions.
