It also depends on what you're trying to achieve. For instance, if you're just trying to help coordinate people updating a wiki page so that two people don't accidentally clobber each other's updates then it's probably not a huge concern.
From a layering perspective, you can probably implement this with checks and triggers in postgres so that it's mostly transparent to the client.
That said, I wouldn't bother myself ;)
Unfortunately, the general sense from the community is that it's an essential piece of the React ecosystem.
It's easy to underestimate their impact, but a good person in support can really make someone's day.
I've had some good success with materialized path solutions in Postgres since its support for arrays makes them indexable and easy to query.
I'd suggest picking whichever is easiest to maintain, and works well with the shape and structure of your data.
