Wait, who are you talking about?
nejenendn··on Announcement: RT and Sputnik Advertising
Did you respond to the right comment? I’m having difficulty figuring out where the OP compared reaches.
nejenendn··on China's Silk Road Illusions
While I agree with that sentiment, the idea that large investments are risky is not in itself interesting. What does this add to the conversation?
nejenendn··on Learn to use Awk with hundreds of examples
Not to mention this is the point of the < operator.
nejenendn··on Dollar General Hits a Gold Mine in Rural America
Yup, this is a problem of money draining from rural america. There are many symptoms.
nejenendn··on C0, an Imperative Programming Language for Novice Computer Scientists (2010) [pdf]
Heh, it’s slightly ironic you use the sequential programming model as the basis for modern computing when that’s less true each year, both at the language and the instruction level. A better way to term it would be interleaving data dependencies and computation.

Heh, in some ways llvm ssa is the closest you get to a natural programming language for the modern processor.

nejenendn··on Feynman’s Breakthrough: Disregard Others
Thankfully people actually using the software is more meaningful than awards :)

Also why is it so weird to see your company wants you to be replaceable? It’s up to YOU to differentiate yourself.

nejenendn··on Feynman’s Breakthrough: Disregard Others
Well if you refuse to learn from mistakes you’re going to keep missing. Gchat is still better than whatever half baked, whitespace filled crap is there now.
nejenendn··on My Google job was tedious and pointless
It’s hard to tell the difference between your narrative and the narrative that you can only be hired at failing companies because they can’t afford someone who will stick around.
nejenendn··on My Google job was tedious and pointless
18 months is a lot different than 6 months. You can’t even ramp up fully on a codebase in 6 months, arguably.
nejenendn··on My Google job was tedious and pointless
Jealous after bailing after six months? Are you sure it’s not pity? How many times have you quit in a row?

Probably just blocked the port.

It really depends on the route in SF; some DO have express busses.
nejenendn··on North Korea's 6000-man army of hackers come into their own
Well, it’s still working for NK, regardless of who funded it.

Also, I think China is exceedingly unlikely to be the source here, especially when it’s been established the recent nuke technology came from the Ukraine.

nejenendn··on What is Nix and why you should try it
Ouch. Is this at a legal or community level?
nejenendn··on Why physicists still use Fortran (2015)
Agreed. However, C++ pragmatically does have restrict in both clang and g++, which is still useful in cases where you can deductively prove the lack of aliasing.
nejenendn··on Why physicists still use Fortran (2015)
Fortran is easier to optimize compared to c/++ if you don’t use restrict for the c end. If you do use restrict (iirc) the compilers are competitive.
nejenendn··on DragonflyBSD v5.0 released
The language is a barrier there. Maybe if we could use go!
nejenendn··on Recompiler: Porting Xbox360 Executables to Windows
Sorry, i was speculating on running xbox one and ps4 executables on the desktopp. Assumably microsoft would add support for xbox executables in this scenario. I don’t see Sony ever doing that; we’d need something like wine, or an actual emulator/dynamic recompiler.
nejenendn··on Recompiler: Porting Xbox360 Executables to Windows
By far the biggest issue would be graphics drivers, I think.
nejenendn··on Windows Subsystem for Linux is good, but not enough yet
Enlightening; thank you!
nejenendn··on Windows Subsystem for Linux is good, but not enough yet
Ehh, I’m not so sure this is true. I think people are open to, erm, analagously powerful forms of computation. I was under the impression that, at least before powershell, the ability to compose programs and form scripts was super limiting, and by now bash is realistically far to entrenched to replace on the unix side, and people don’t really want to target two scripting languages.

However, there are alternative ways of doing this that seem quite powerful, like the lisp machine—it didn’t fail because it couldn’t handle tackling abstract problems, it failed because unix ended up doing it cheaper and faster. There might even be arguments for visual shell scripting.

That said, if you’re doing anything like unix, you might as well go full unix :)

nejenendn··on Atom's new concurrency-friendly buffer implementation
What is a web programming language? Is that like C++ because I write all my servers in it?
