- No more bloatware
- just the features you want and the power you need
- choosing your preferred operating system
Obviously the battery and camera quality do not match what you are describing, but a Free operating system enables you to install/remove whatever the heck you might want.
I'm struggling to find it now but I've seen a distro shared here that aims for a more Notepad-like experience within nvim.
When I was first learning PHP I spent a year or two without a debugger. The first time I tried one I learned about a whole bunch of global variables I had no idea about.
I recently set up nvim-dap and have wonderful debugging experience while still in the "purity of not using IDEs or debuggers" realm.
BT audio with my headphones and car works fine.
Browsing is fine in FF unless the website is very JS intensive.
Maps works with Puremaps.
The terminal is fine? Unless there is something specific you want out of it. I tried getting kitty to run but it doesn't without opengl.
Heat used to be a bit much but it doesn't get more than a little warm now and hasn't been hot since I first got it almost a year ago.
I pirate a decent amount of media. If piracy was not an option, I would simply live without the TV/Movies I download.
There is one Android app I am using through Waydroid. It's a 2FA app I need to log in to work.
Uber/Lyft may also work through Waydroid, but I have no idea.
Some JS heavy pages take a long time to load (FF is mostly fine, GNOME Web is not) in the browser. Other apps work totally fine speed-wise.
There's a lot of opinions in this thread but not a lot of people with firsthand experience.
Google themselves have publicly stated that turning off GPS in your settings menu doesn't actually turn it off physically. So how do we know that apps still aren't accessing GPS data?
I tried this years ago and didn't like it. Not only because Electron, but I thought it was missing a lot of basic features (folders/organizing passwords was sorely lacking).
I'm not looking to try it again, to be clear, just curious. KeepassXC won my heart.
A good day is when there is a 2-3 hour uninterrupted slot and I can get about that much deep work done. But that only happens a few days of the month.
Another idea - if there aren't any real requirements from the system other than allowing your kid to poke around - try something like Haiku. It's not Linux but it's interesting and different and is still Unix-like.
Also I would look in to Pine64's PinePhone (Pro), or even Fairphone.
`cfg pull` - pull latest git repo and apply via `stow`
`cfg push` - push local config changes to git server
`cfg apply` - apply local changes with `stow`
There are a few other commands too but I don't use them often. This simple script + repo lets me manage my dotfiles across ~7 machines
1. Write code that will find the second largest item in an array on ints.
2. Write SQL that selects the second highest number from a DB table.
I'm floored how few candidates can do these. Many end up giving up or fiddling for 10 minutes before giving something like `SELECT table WHERE 2`.
Edit: Updated to 96.0, and Reddit is back again.
