nazka··on Nikon to acquire RED
Yep. This is the correct answer to OP.
nazka··on Netlify just sent me a $104k bill for a simple static site
Yes it’s nice like that. Specially for side projects on AWS that could go wrong on your personal credit card. Also I heard they forgave bills sometimes.
nazka··on Nvidia hits $2T valuation as AI frenzy grips Wall Street
For Nvidia to become like Cisco we need 2 things. 1. AI will become easy at all level with no big revolution and 2. Nvidia will not diversify and invest in the next big thing. I am not sure of 1 but certainly not 2. Maybe if the next big thing has nothing to do with computer hardware or AI.
nazka··on Forum reactions to Satoshi's Bitcoin paper
People downvoting anybody against it without giving any proper answer…

I agree with everything you said. Even the security it promotes is false advertising. Yes maybe Bitcoin ~itself~ is secured but the rest is not. It has to live on server, network, software, etc… and those are not 100% secured. Look at the money stolen. There has been more money lost through hacks and wallet stolen than any traditional bank…

Security on transaction also is a joke. I have never heard a CEO being so concerned by fraud and Visa and others that they need so much Bitcoin… Unless they do very shady businesses. Tomorrow I do a startup it will use Visa etc and I will sleep just fine. If you run the number with fraud costs etc also included for Bitcoin and traditional ways, from micropayments to $100B money transfer. The traditional is way cheaper and sometimes actually more secured overall.

And I can go on and on… It’s just greed.

nazka··on JavaScript Bloat in 2024
Great article! But in the conclusion jQuery is enough? No thanks
nazka··on If architects had to work like programmers (1995)
Yes they have to work with a structural engineer for that. Just like a car designer have to work with a mechanical engineer or a product manager with an software architect.

Architectes are not engineers they are designers and visionaries.

You can check this video for more info:

nazka··on Why is machine learning 'hard'? (2016)
For me it’s 2 things: math is already hard even with a teacher and after you found a job it’s just you and your screen. The other part is research moves at a crazy speed it’s very hard to keep up I think while having a job.
nazka··on Meta documents show 100k children sexually harassed daily on its platforms
I didn’t down vote.

You will have to make a realistic multi angle deep fake faces before it happens. Like the face geometry and looks has to perfectly match the other deeps fake and any other camera. Plus matching different type of lights, camera gradient, lens, types, etc…

nazka··on Ask HN: 9-yo son wants to build a game, I'm lost. What can I do?
1. Avoid 3D at all costs

2. Keep it simple

3. Start with the funniest and smallest things to do and increment. Like making the character being able to move around or being able to attack with a sword than different weapons, etc…

nazka··on E621, Pornhub, and others block North Carolina residents
I am curious how this would work. Could you put me in the right direction in how this is done?
nazka··on StreamDiffusion: A pipeline-level solution for real-time interactive generation
At least this is innovation and always moving forward. For the frontend space sometimes it’s step backs, reinventing the wheel, or just because a new tool looks shinier…
nazka··on AMD MI300X 30% higher performance than Nvidia H100, even with optimized stack
> None of your comment writes about why CUDA is so special compared to OpenCL or Metal.

OP and OP’s OP never frame it about that. But you can still get the answer you are looking for from their answers.

nazka··on Jets: Ruby Serverless Framework
Ya I miss the time when Rails was used 2 out 3 times in startups. It has it flows but dang the DX and the features it has. And the speed you ship things. Even Java with its massive ecosystem and devs doesn’t have an all packed solution like Rails but it gets closer with Spring Boot but not equal or better. Maybe Phoenix? We are getting there with TS but you have to use 30 different packages and glue and config the whole thing before even beginning to code anything.
nazka··on Gemini AI
If you ever try it on Gemini let me know I am curious.
nazka··on Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1 [video]
There are 2 problems to that.

First seeing how much it costs OpenAI to run their infrastructure, that rockstar will have a one time payment for the game and not a subscription from the players, and that you will have maybe 50-100 query per hour per player, it would not be feasible economically.

Second even if it was, that mean that the whole game depends on an internet connection and a backend that will need to be here forever. 10 years later they cut the backend you can’t play the game anymore.

nazka··on Ousted propaganda scholar accuses Harvard of bowing to Meta
Wow and she is just 18 yo.
nazka··on Filmic's entire staff laid off by parent company Bending Spoons
Thank you for the info. It was by far the best camera app. Giving crazy raw data and pro options. It’s insane that they are laid of.
nazka··on 300-year-old Tokyo comb company sells 30k-yen ($200) wooden hair combs
Definitely their skills at storytelling. Look at what is considered the top 5 comics of Batman for instance. Their stories are meh at best to forgettable and so far from what mangas offer. I think they work because the art is very good. I can’t wait to have someone who draws comics to coop with someone who does storytelling in mangas.
nazka··on OpenAI researchers warned board of AI breakthrough ahead of CEO ouster
Game theory but where the wooden pawn now starts to be a little more than a wooden pawn and in fact a little more than a classic AI. It’s not the same rules as any classic literature in Game Theory.

I do agree with the weapon up until the atomic bomb. Game Theory, stats, probability, and psychology also tells us that sooner or later you maybe have a big enough weapon and someone may press the button.

nazka··on OpenAI researchers warned board of AI breakthrough ahead of CEO ouster
Personally I don’t think AGI is possible. I was thinking more of a model that will be able to do 100 times what you can do now. Like able to answer questions like: what is the most efficient way to attack this front considering this map and this data dump of weapons stats and patrol present, etc…

But even if it was sentient convincing it then shouldn’t be hard. Even the most brilliant people can be fooled and convinced of absurd things. Even when they think that their work can threaten the human race but will still continue and push for it.

nazka··on OpenAI researchers warned board of AI breakthrough ahead of CEO ouster
Like it will never be weaponized? If not by the US, by nobody else on earth?
nazka··on OCaml: a Rust developer's first impressions
What about back when you started to sturdy C++. Will that not have taken you more than an hour to do an performant and elegant C++ solution?

I feel what is critical is to practice it more often and also to do a jump into how we think as a developer because OCaml is a functional language from the ML family. The way we have to design and think is not exactly the same as all the other mainstream languages.

nazka··on As the public begins to believe Google isn’t as useful, what happens to SEO?
What are your sources for this?
nazka··on Yann LeCun: AI one-percenters seizing power forever is real doomsday scenario
Getting uranium, the hardware to have nukes, and all the research and production around it is hard without being detected. Starting to code AI on a Mac and a few good GPUs or even a cluster without being detected is crazy easy. Even if they start to treat the most powerful GPUs as small nukes and only a few can have them it’s super easy to steal, transport, store, use… Nukes not so much.
nazka··on People who made the original Super Mario Bros shipped Wonder 38 years later
I feel like they are managing a tech company like you would manage a 300 old Japanese workshop and still be there for next 300 years.
nazka··on Just paying Figma because nothing else works
I actually love polishing but not writing tests unless it’s with cypress.
nazka··on Every database will become a vector database sooner or later
Wow you are so right. I just typed “best vector database” on Google and I have 4 ads with other results all talking about “vector database something AI”.
nazka··on Cancer expert given experimental treatments for incurable brain tumour
I guess by over regulating it on both sides. Companies shouldn’t be able to use weird methods and ethics with these laws. And we can have the right to try but we will have to go through a lot of process to really make it happen. Not just sign here and we are done. Bureaucracy “nightmare” can be a good filter here for once.
