nav1··on Two-Factor Authentication with SSH
The app still generates offline codes as a backup, iirc.
nav1··on Apple Maps Vehicles
This article has one: http://www.macrumors.com/2015/06/17/apple-maps-vehicles-engl...
nav1··on Google latest sign-in update is making a lot of people very angry
Except it doesn't even take a second for the password input to appear. Where are you getting those numbers from anyway? When I tried it, it only took about 152 ms for all the data to load after submitting the e-mail address.
nav1··on Google latest sign-in update is making a lot of people very angry
That's not true, though. You would still have to either press tab (now enter), or click the second field to enter the password.
nav1··on “Safe Spaces” and the Mote in America's Eye
You don't have to be in a minority in order to be marginalised. It's like saying that since black people make up the majority of South Africa, the idea that the white minority could oppress them is laughable. It has more to do with power than numbers.
nav1··on Is it an accident? No, it's a wildcard subdomain
Something along lines of

  *	IN	A	<ip_address>
nav1··on So Your Company Has Been Found Using Alex’s Photographs Without Permission
Yes he does. Dealing with copyright infringement can be very expensive and time consuming.
nav1··on Slack was hacked
You can use any other TOTP-based application instead of Google Authenticator. Plus, unlike SMS, it works offline.
nav1··on Periscope by Twitter
Well, "record" buttons also tend to be red.
nav1··on Signal 2.0 released with private messaging support
There's a link to it in that conversation: https://eprint.iacr.org/2014/904.pdf
nav1··on If you are storing important info in Evernote, think twice
> "I'll now resort to manually backing up every Evernote file to Google Doc"

I don't think that's the lesson to take away from this...

nav1··on How Elementary School Teachers Biases Can Discourage Girls from Math and Science
> because it suited her interests more

And based on that you concluded that women are less interested in sciences because of their biology. You seem to be ignoring the fact that girls are actively discouraged from being interested in certain fields. But that couldn't have anything to do with it, could it? Must be the biology...

nav1··on 42 as a Service
Excellent idea! I will definitely use this in my next project. Do you have a business plan yet?
nav1··on 130,000 pages of declassified US Air Force files related to UFO sightings
A video of something you can't readily identify is not an evidence of space aliens. It's not even an evidence of it being extra-terrestrial. It could very well be a normal aeroplane or an optical illusion. Given that one is far more likely than the other, it's hard to assume that it's from the outer space. There is no actual evidence of aliens, I'm afraid.
nav1··on CurrentC Has Been Hacked, Testers’ Email Addresses Stolen
They were hacked before even launching publicly. I suppose they're trying to build trust in their service early on.
nav1··on BBC staff ordered to stop giving equal airtime to climate deniers
But science isn't about someone agreeing with a theory. If you can disprove a theory, great. Otherwise no one really cares about your flawed arguments.
nav1··on Microsoft takes down No-IP.com domains
Probably because Windows XP is well over 10 years old. You can't possibly expect them to support it forever just because some organisations can't be bothered to upgrade.
nav1··on Why use www?
That's absolutely not how it works. Firstly, "www" is a subdomain of "example.com". The subdomain could match the hostname of the server that hosts it, but that's rarely the case (there can be multiple servers behind a load-balancer, for example). Secondly, you don't have to create a wildcard record for "example.com" to work. You just have to add an A record for it (just like you would do for any subdomain thereof).
nav1··on Publisher Closure Puts 2600 in Limbo
Previous discussion: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=7958815 (it's still on the front page)
nav1··on Ask HN: How bad is it to use a self-signed SSL certificate?
Because encountering a site with a self-signed certificate likely means that the connection is MITM'd. In any case, with a self-signed cert you can't who you're connecting to.
nav1··on OS X Beta Seed Program
You need to be a paying OS X dev member to access the seeds on developer.apple.com.
nav1··on It’s Time to Encrypt the Entire Internet
I couldn't find a single mention of OpenSSL in the article. What are you talking about?
nav1··on Chrome/Firefox aren't checking CA revocation lists
Yes it does. It's just not enabled by default.
nav1··on Two Factor Auth List
Authy use their own system, but the app also supports TOTP.
nav1··on Worse
Because it's so easy to start a company and compete with Amazon.
nav1··on Prominent GitHub Engineer Quits, Alleging Gender-Based Harassment
How is she starting trouble? I suppose not being harassed at work is not too much to ask for, is it? What does programming even have to do with it?
nav1··on New message from Mt. Gox
The script is for a DDoS protection service (http://www.prolexic.com/). It only shows up the first time you load the page.
nav1··on Microsoft ditching Windows 8, plans to release Windows 9
>plans to release Windows 9

No way! Who knows, maybe they'll even release Windows 10 after that.

nav1··on How I Ended Up In Solitary After Calling 911 For Help
> They don't give a shit about your elbow nor should they.

What? Just because you are being arrested doesn't mean that they can treat you like that.

nav1··on Don't give access to your beta for free, swap it
This doesn't seem like a very reasonable idea. The entire point of beta testing is to fix bugs. The beta testers don't owe you; they are doing you a favour if anything.
