natmaster··on Nvidia announces RTX 2000 GPU series with ‘6x more performance’ and ray-tracing
Why do you need major performance increases for old looking games that are already maxing out your monitor's refresh rate? Next you're gonna say programmable shaders are overkill.
natmaster··on GitHub Alternatives
Steve Ballmer is no longer CEO. Companies are run by people - they are not people.
natmaster··on The Rise of the Thought Leader
It is not sufficient to advance understanding and ideas beyond the rest of civilization. These ideas must be communicated as well.
natmaster··on Firefox Network Monitor Reloaded – Part 1
If you think having more lines of code makes something slower then you should disabled the JIT in your browser and see the amazing performance wins of javascript being interpreted with less lines of code!
natmaster··on The future of MDN: a focus on web docs
Google sucks and you're complaining to Mozilla? I can't believe people have become so complacent with search they will start blaming great content on the internet for being hidden by shitty algorithms.
natmaster··on React v15.5.0
This is the prep for fiber. They're releasing something with deprecation warnings so when they have to completely remove those things in 16 (w/ fiber), everyone will be ready.
natmaster··on Password Rules Are Bullshit
The worst rules are the ones that don't let you use non-alphanumeric characters - and these are banking sites!
natmaster··on Safari 10.1
They're still super late to this party. But good to see they're finally implementing this.
natmaster··on Announcing Pipenv
This is cool - it's like yarn for python! :)
natmaster··on Why Is Obama Expanding Surveillance Powers Right Before He Leaves Office?
Rep. Ronald Ernest 'Ron' Paul Republican Nay Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich Democratic Nay

Nay: 66

Like Sanders is any kind of special snowflake. You don't have to get socialism to get someone against mass surveillance.

natmaster··on U.S. Labor department sues Google for compensation data
Large companies actually do better in terms of diversity.

As far as doing things, there is definitely many things to be done! You are right that the problem starts well before college. In America there is a culture that being CS is nerdy, and not girly. This is largely in part due to Hollywood's attempts, but this can be combated at a more local level.

natmaster··on Is the Era of Great Famines Over?
Yeah, screw progress. Breadlines for all!
natmaster··on VR Resources
VR and AR are the future of HCI. Facebook wants their stock to continue going up and Mark wants to continue being relevant.
natmaster··on Bill Gates et. al. launch massive clean-energy fund to fight climate change
Dear God, you aren't suggesting that perhaps the government isn't the solution to everything and that in fact volunteerism could be viable?
natmaster··on Why we chose Vue.js over React
Turns out javascript is a quite reasonable language and already does that great.
natmaster··on Generals.io – Capture enemy generals to defeat them
Why does it not register my clicks most of the time? And when it does it's delayed by a whole second. Makes me do things I didn't intend.
natmaster··on Maine Ranked Choice Voting Initiative Approved
Whereas in an untruthful system like first-past-the-post - the winner could be someone who was #2 on 100% of the country's wishlist. But they voted for them because they were told their #1 had no chance.
natmaster··on Donald Trump’s Contract with the American Voter [pdf]
The person I am replying to claims DT's message is clear, so I was hoping they might explain the part that I cannot understand.
natmaster··on Donald Trump’s Contract with the American Voter [pdf]
Really? Can you explain what this means then?

"All vetting of people coming into our country will be considered “extreme vetting""

natmaster··on All Tesla Cars Being Produced Now Have Full Self-Driving Hardware
And in this case, it's even more important than just being the first from a market perspective. Being first here allows Tesla to acquire a ton of data for their ML to churn on. Data is the monopoly that makes tech companies like Facebook so valuable today. Facebook open sources most of their infrastructure, and anyone can copy their designs because they're fully public.
natmaster··on Shame on Y Combinator
> ...our media, which couldn't have hand-picked...

According to wikileak's hacking of Hillary's email, they didn't handpick anyone - it was Hillary who was telling them what to do.

natmaster··on Why Your Excellent Conference Talk Was Rejected
The problem with these smaller groups is you have no proof you did anything there and were any good. I got rejected to PyCon one year for this very reason - and I have tons of experience speaking at smaller conferences.

(Note: The reason is not speculation as they tell you in a rejection email.)

natmaster··on Ask HN: What is your favorite YouTube channel for developers?
computerphile isn't really for developers. It's for non-developers to get a glimpse into the world of developers. Everything they explain there is extremely elementary. However, I quite enjoy Bradey's other channels (numberphile, and sixty symbols) as I am not a professional in physics or math.
natmaster··on Google's “Director of Engineering” Hiring Test
This explains why Google is incapable of attacking any product that requires an understanding of humanity to be successful rather than just raw data. (e.g., google+, youtube comments, etc)
natmaster··on How it feels to learn JavaScript in 2016
React is really very simple. It only takes a short amount of time to learn it, and then when you do you won't get headaches all the time trying to keep track of state.

You don't need to know all the toolchains and crap if you just use create-react-app.

natmaster··on It Costs $30 to Make a DIY EpiPen
So you're complaining about fire, and your solution is more fire? How about some water?

natmaster··on Don’t just pardon Edward Snowden; give the man a medal
You shouldn't take oaths you can't keep. Taking both led him to lie, so no matter what he did he was violating his oath.
natmaster··on Amazon CloudFront now supports HTTP/2
Why would you deliver static content over websockets? CDNs are for http based delivery of static files.

If you want websockets you should be using EC2 https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/new-aws-application-load-ba...

The EC2 ELB supports websockets and HTTP/2.

natmaster··on I am a fast webpage
A lot of this stuff is outdated now: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=12448539

For instance, delivery one giant JS/CSS file is now bad because it is harder to cache, since HTTP/2 removes the overhead of multiple requests there is no downside for many files.

natmaster··on Free as in Health Care
The problem with the concept of additive rights, is that they require unequal application to a populace. You cannot have an additive right that everyone gets. For every addition there must be a subtraction. If you think you have 'right' to a private jet; someone has to make that jet - and you don't have to give them anything back. This is the logic of the thugs that use their threats to take the apple in your hand.

Sorry, you are not better than any other human.
