narrationbox··on Stripe Treasury
Interesting, it seems their products are geo-locked. The Canadian site still shows "Request invite".
narrationbox··on Stripe Treasury
Is this like Stripe Issuing where it is only available to a small number of companies? A lot of newer Stripe products seems to be available to large enterprises only. We applied for that waitlist multiple times but never heard back. What are the revenue or scale requirements for your targeted customers? Is it suitable for fintech e-wallets/banks?

narrationbox··on Show HN: Text-to-podcast: Repurpose any content into podcasts
When evaluating end-to-end human narration services, the most important factor is audio mastering. For services that target the podcast industry, good quality audio output that can be used as-is is a must.

Looks incredible! Will definitely try it out.
narrationbox··on Show HN: Backtest Trading Strategies: A Quantopian Alternative
This field is tricky. We used to run an algorithmic trading platform (https://KloudTrader.com/narwhal) but pivoted to building productivity SaaS because the revenue numbers from these sort of fintech is quite bad if you do not have scale. It is a very niche market.

I will definitely do a writeup during/before the Christmas break.

narrationbox··on UEFI-rs: Write UEFI applications in Rust
You make a bootup disc (or USB) like your typical dual booting procedure. Then go into BIOS (I am using the legacy name for the modern UEFI menu) and boot up from there. It is the same as any OS development except that UEFI provides you with a number of APIs including a mini filesystem, a primitive shell, a graphics API, and some other stuff. To make it easier, you can think of your computer running pure UEFI apps as a giant, overpowered Arduino.

https://wiki.osdev.org/UEFI_Bare_Bones

Until recently, almost every UEFI app had to be written in C/C++.

narrationbox··on Parsing RISC-V assembly
The SDKs for the non big name (Nvidia, Google, AMD) accelerators have very poor developer experiences. (Granted CUDA/ROCm isn't much better) A number of the embedded SDKs require you to use their custom framework and won't support Tensorflow/Torch models out of the box. Onnx and similar conversion frameworks target only the big name chips, not off the shelf generic AI accelerator chips. Embedded systems need more software engineering.
narrationbox··on Putting Raspberry Pi Online with Caddy and SSH Tunnel
At Narration Box we use Tailscale with Caddy's Cloudflare Let's Encrypt DNS-01 for internal DNS resolution + TLS for the apps that need it. In essence you get something like Google's internal "go/ links" except everything's hosted on the external DNS server and automatically protected by default by Tailscale since the IPs pointed to cannot be accessed publicly.

narrationbox··on Better Git diff output for Ruby, Python, Elixir, Go
A bigger problem is tree structures, it is particularly egregious for HTML and JSON where the output tend to be a complete mess of red and green. I think a good solution would be for git to call out to the respective language servers (the VS Language Server Protocol) and render changes based on AST and syntax specific diffs.
narrationbox··on Audio’s opportunity and who will capture it
> This dynamic stems from audio’s technological simplicity compared to other media types. We can see this in how much earlier recorded audio emerged than recorded video or video game arcades, and live audio (radio) versus live TV or online gaming. Or how much easier it was to make and record music than shoot and press a film, or design a video game.

This is not true for ML. Good realistic speech synthesis is a lot more tricky than images (videos however are another thing entirely).

Your audio narration widget that plays in sync with the paragraph is really cool. I am going to borrow the idea and add it to Narration Box :)
narrationbox··on Shapez.io: open-source base building game inspired by Factorio
Maybe for CPLDs, the abstraction level of Factorio is a bit too low for FPGAs unless you want to work entirely at the transistor level.

This particular field is difficult. Other than Google (through Search and also its acquisition of Metaweb), no other company has managed to achieve tremendous revenue with a knowledge base product alone. Cyc, Wolfram Alpha, the original IBM Watson (the expert system, not the ML APIs borrowing the brand) are all surviving but not thriving.

narrationbox··on Caddy Server Is Acquired By Apilayer
Congratulations Matt! Big fans of Caddy here at Narration Box. The reverse proxy setup and strong defaults are unmatched and are a joy to use. My favourite feature is the Cloudflare Let's Encrypt DNS-01 challenge integration, it makes adding TLS to internal networks a lot easier for devices like the iPhone/iPad where the cert store is heavily locked down.
