nanoxide··on Tmp.0ut Volume 5
I'm sure someone has a more precise idea on what it's called, but I would lean towards minimal DnB.
nanoxide··on Show HN: QWERTY mini Pro – Why a 2-row, 16-key keyboard works better
I really liked it and bought it a couple of weeks ago, however I've run into a deal-braking bug and with no possibility to report a bug (the website is extremely slow and barely loads most of the time), I kinda ignored it since then.

In Firefox on Android, I can't type a secondary character (e.g. "p") as first character into the address bar. Double tapping y/p results in "yp" instead of only "p". It works everywhere else, but not in this specific text box.

Also, somewhere in the docs it's mentioned that you can use one of the outer buttons as trigger for a secondary char (i.e. quickly tapping "o/y" should result in "p"). I couldn't get this to work even once.

nanoxide··on The 'Paperwork Flood': How I Drowned a Bureaucrat Before Dinner
It's also tagged "nonfiction" though
nanoxide··on RE#: how we built the fastest regex engine in F#
Calling this RE# (resharp), when there is a much more popular and established product already named R# (ReSharper, by JetBrains) in the. NET world will probably hurting your SEO and/or could potentially cause some legal grief.
nanoxide··on I fixed Windows native development
When was the last time you actually used. NET? Because that's absolutely not how it is. The. NET runtime is shipped by default with Windows and updated via WU. Let alone that you're talking about .NET Framework which has been outdated for years.

nanoxide··on Where Does Cloudflare Think I Am?
Correct country (in the EU) but off by hundreds of kilometers. I find it rarely to be correct whenever I get a "new login from..." mail from Google or others.
nanoxide··on The Buchstabenmuseum Berlin is closing
Technikmuseum [0] has many different technology-related exhibitions. And the Spectrum (separate building) has a lot of physics- and science experiments you can actively try out. Loved it as a kid.

nanoxide··on Beloved 27-Year-Old Gaming Site Wipes Forums, Relaunches as Gambling Cash-Grab
The ad even appears on my Firefox Mobile, which has uBlock Origin installed and goes through a PiHole running on the network.
nanoxide··on Show HN: I made an online Unicode Cuneiform digital clock
Nice to see the Mengenlehre clock in Berlin. Coincidentally, directly in the adjacent Europa-Center is also the clock of flowing time, which I found fascinating as a kid. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clock_of_Flowing_Time
nanoxide··on Spaced repetition systems have gotten better
Used to use it in university (CS) for cramming before tests, mostly when there were lots of definitions to memorize. Also summarizing stuff and writing your own cards for it helps already with learning itself.
nanoxide··on Lazarus Release 4.0
.NET can create self-contained executables pretty easily (via _dotnet publish_), both including the required framework assemblies and without them. But they'll still be comparatively large.
nanoxide··on Chibi: PNG-tuber application made in Rust
It's for streaming on platforms like YouTube or Twitch, usually when streaming games or doing art. Instead of using a webcam to show yourself (mostly in a small overlay in a corner), you show a PNG image of yourself or an avatar. To give these static images for variety, you can change them based on voice input (i.e. as if the PNG was talking), or emotions like laughing. Related: V-Tubers which use 3D models or more intricate methods like motion capturing to animate a virtual version of themselves.
nanoxide··on Pee If You Want to Go Deeper (2021)
I know nothing about diving. Why can't you pee in a dry suit (except that one might find it gross)? I assumed that you could just rinse the suit afterwards. Or is being underwater a factor, because it gets too cold or the pressure does something with it or...?
nanoxide··on F-Droid's Progress and What's Coming in 2025
It's super annoying though, that installing an app from F-Droid sometimes appears as installed from Play Store as well. For example, I have VLC installed from F-Droid, but it also appears in the Play Store update list and _can't_ be updated from there.
nanoxide··on Microsoft GW-Basic User's Guide and Reference (1989) [pdf]
Pretty sure Windows comes by default with the Powershell ISE, although it's not developed further anymore. It also only comes with the .NET runtime, not the SDK. Installing VSCode and some extensions would get you pretty far though.
nanoxide··on Gukesh becomes the youngest chess world champion in history
I have little interest in chess and no real knowledge in its current events beyond mainstream media coverage, but always enjoy lively writeups of the matches like this one.
nanoxide··on Reverse engineering the Sega Channel game image file format
Teletext is still very much alive in Germany, pretty much every channel offers it. In fact, I use it most days to quickly check if there are any interesting headlines to follow up online, or for sports results. It's funny that it is frequently faster and easier to navigate than most enshittified news websites.
nanoxide··on Stack Overflow Does Not Want to Help You
Yes, asking for resources such as "the best framework" are off-topic on SO, but that's clearly written in the tour you're supposed to read before posting. I'm not sure what you expected, it's certainly not on the whim of the "moderators", because even I as a regular user can and will vote such questions to close.
nanoxide··on The case of a program that crashed on its first instruction
He has obviously decades of experience, but the basics of debugging with windbg aren't actually that difficult to start with. I remember trying to look into some memory dumps we got from crashes of our application from internal users, and was able to get relevant information pretty quickly just from some basic built-in diagnostic commands I picked up from his and the old NTDebugging blog (which seems to be sadly gone).
nanoxide··on PeaZip 10.0.0 Released
Can 7zip finally automatically open the target folder after unzipping to a directory? This feature is strangely absent from a lot of unzipping programs, except PeaZip and WinRAR (from those I tried).
nanoxide··on Chemistry Nobel: Computational protein design and protein structure prediction
Yep. I distinctly remember reading an interview in the German GameStar magazine in '99 or something with him where he talks about his early work with Bullfrog. Over the years I read his name from time to time as he moved towards research. Pretty amazing career.
nanoxide··on It's Time to Bring Back the iPod
Wish it was easy to replace the battery in my nano 5G. It's the only Apple device I ever owned, and was such a beautiful (non-"smart") device.
nanoxide··on Finding a therapist who takes your insurance can be nearly impossible
The issue is similar in Germany, where the vast majority has mandatory insurance: Too few therapists for too many people. Even in large cities you might wait months, if they even have waiting lists. It's much easier if you pay by yourself.
nanoxide··on Windows 11 tweaks and usability improvements
This broke Wifi on my PC because it disables WinHttpAutoProxy service.
nanoxide··on A Swiss town banned billboards. Zurich, Bern may soon follow
Because they're expensive and Berlin doesn't have money. They were also coin operated and thus frequently broken into and out of service because of that. They mostly have contactless pay now, which has disadvantages as well because its less accessible (especially for children and senior people).
nanoxide··on Firing Myself
Never worked with AWS, but besides that it obviously shouldn't happen - is it really that bad? Couldn't the keys be invalidated/regenerated immediately after you realized they were compromised?

nanoxide··on POV-Ray – The Persistence of Vision Raytracer (2021)
My first ever contact with programming back in 8th grade some 20 years ago. My then-teacher's website about PoV-Ray is still online, in all its late 90s goodness (in German): http://asti.vistecprivat.de/index.html
