nanapipirara··on AI is removing the middle class of software engineering?
I think this is true.

A lot of AI believers (me too fwiw) seem to forget it’s a lot harder to ‘close the loop’ on non-code projects. I think this is because they are usually coders.

nanapipirara··on Free the Icons
Someone posted an old MacOS screenshot on Reddit and it was immediately obvious that the icons without a silhouette were the worst out of all of them.

Like iTunes / Books / App Store. And that's basically what they went with eventually...

Dashboard and Launcher are fine, but they have a reason to be a circle. (Well Launcher less so maybe)

Chrome is terrible, it represents nothing. But I guess it's just a brand.

I wish we could go back to this instead of squircles...

nanapipirara··on Your ePub Is fine
I’m supposed to be able to lend ebooks from my local library. Adobe makes it impossible as their software doesn’t run on my macbook…
nanapipirara··on Shantell Sans (2023)
Amazing work! I am using this for a project immediately, it has so much joyful charm while still being readable. I reworked my personal website to use it too :) The bounce and informal options are just what I was looking for for years. https://www.lukaskrepel.nl
nanapipirara··on EU to crack down on TikTok, Instagram's 'addictive design' targeting kids
For sure.

The other thing I really love about HN is that titles are all supposed to be boring and to the point. The guidelines[1] for titles are excellent and I wish more of the web and honestly legacy media too would behave that way. Things that are of no interest to me are not trying to waste my time and attention.

nanapipirara··on EU to crack down on TikTok, Instagram's 'addictive design' targeting kids
Yeah yeah, whataboutism.

I'm very happy they're taking a stance. I've seen too many messed up kids and there's no doubt the addictive design plays a big role in the problem.

nanapipirara··on We put Claude Code in Rollercoaster Tycoon
Claude helped me immensely getting an image converter to work. Giving it screenshots of wrong output (lots of layers had an unpredictable offsets that was not supposed to be there) and output as I expected it helped Claude understand the problems and it fixed the bugs immediately.
nanapipirara··on GitHub should charge everyone $1 more per month to fund open source
I actually volunteer to take care of parts of the trash in our neighborhood. Like with a proper garbage truck. And the amount of volunteers so big that I only have to do it a few times a year. All the money they make with recycling goes to the local school. It is fun to do, even in cold rain. The garbage truck driver gets paid, but I am sure in an IBU world even drivers would chip in if they could afford it. People want to contribute and feel useful.
nanapipirara··on Ask HN: Share your personal website
https://www.lukaskrepel.nl it's my personal portfolio of animation and videogame work, I hope it's as simple and straightforward as I think it is, while also being playful and a bit like the old web.
