nalekberov··on How can this Amazon scammer keep going, not shipping any goods?
> Recall that governments govern at the pleasure of their people.

Not when resources are being controlled by those who have the power. (For example, in Azerbaijan the Aliyevs have ruled for decades -- using oil wealth to buy everything and everyone)

It's like saying you can just refuse to use AI, when in actuality your employer will punish you for not using it.

nalekberov··on No Sloptober
I would love to, but hardly I could do that. I am desperately looking for a job, and AI is the only way I can be “fast enough” while applying to jobs as soon as possible.

I really don’t like 90% of stuff “AI” bring today, but employers today are literally forcing you to use them.

nalekberov··on Obscura: VPN that can't log your activity
I don't like 'us vs others' kinda comparisons, it's just marketing trick, which means they care more about sales than your privacy.

Secondly, Mullvad did what Obscura does now years ago.

Furthermore who needs a gamified VPN tool?

nalekberov··on US Military had close call after using AI for hallucinated intelligence report
not AI, but idiots who use it for dangerous things.
nalekberov··on I hate you Microsoft
I can and as a matter of fact, I did.
nalekberov··on I hate you Microsoft
I don't understand why the author thinks that Apple is any better than Microsoft.

Heck, you can use cracked Windows on any compatible machine. Can you do that with MacOS? Apple is selfish, it wants to control the entire chain.

nalekberov··on Apple Reference Image: A New Approach for Verified Photography
Exactly, a wave of “verified” fake images are coming.
nalekberov··on Ubuntu 26.10 completes transition to Rust-based coreutils
If you ask their motivation? "We want to make them safer"

They worked pretty fine for decades, now, who needs these rewrites? Not saying it's useless, but in practice, what benefits did this bring?

nalekberov··on Rust is tier-1 language at Microsoft
Does it matter when one embeds web browser into their app?
nalekberov··on AI Has a Discovery Problem
The biggest problem with “AI” is that big corps are shoving it down our throats. AI has existed since nearly invention of computing, notorious example are video games, but no one marketed them with AI, why? because that was not the point, and besides, today’s AI is overloaded term, they are represented as if they are capable of starting new war, but in reality they are repeating the same stuff over and over again they “learned” from Reddit posts, books, codebases etc. in an indeterministic way.

In most cases you don’t even need them. In some cases they give quite inaccurate answer with high confidence.

nalekberov··on GamersNexus and LG: Or why rooting your TV is a bad idea
Anyone who uses GenAI for content creation, isn't worth my time. My rationale is simple: If I wanted to, I could have asked "AI" to generate that content for me, when I am spending my time consuming your content, I expect to get something unique.
nalekberov··on Mistral raises €3B
"Mistral raises €3B to make sovereign, open-weight AI the technology frontier". Oh yeah, that sounds reasonable, indeed, one receives this much money just for sovereignty's sake.
nalekberov··on 216M Spy TVs – The LG Smart TV Problem [video]
First of all, your TV is not interested in random gibberish from loud parties. It’s just not economically viable.

During the Soviet era, not everyone could afford to have a landline phone, but the system kept hunting down its dissidents one by one. If you are a person of interest (which I believe doesn’t apply to you), there are way more important signals to adversaries than your microphone.

It's important to choose your threat model. If your plan is to resist surveillance capitalism or just a random Bob and his grandmother snooping on you online, luckily, there are some effective methods. Otherwise, I would say it’s always a question of time, not 'if' or 'how.'

nalekberov··on Sony makes bold claim about game ownership
A BMW and a Volkswagen are two kinds of apples. Both get you from A to B, which was the entire goal. A Sony exclusive and any other game are not two kinds of anything. If you can't tell these apart, perhaps you should go back to elementary school.
nalekberov··on Sony makes bold claim about game ownership
Remember? Moving from point A to point B.
nalekberov··on Sony makes bold claim about game ownership
If I want to move from point A to point B, I can choose from BMW, Audi or any cheaper Chinese brand.

But I cannot play 'Astro Bot' on another platform.

nalekberov··on Sony makes bold claim about game ownership
The difference is that no license holder can force you to give them back. You. Actually. Own. Them.

You might think, like, you've had some eureka moment, but it's all corporate BS.

nalekberov··on How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been?
I don’t know much about Zitron, but YouTube somehow pushes these “experts” onto my feed. This guy is full of crap, he doesn’t even care, because that doesn’t matter, what matters is view count.
nalekberov··on Fastpotify
"Controllable AI for artists".

"AI for artists", Carl!

nalekberov··on Fastpotify
Well, happy for ya.
nalekberov··on Fastpotify
Buddy, it’s the same big tech gave you this opportunity. You are creating so much stuff, but most of them are useless garbage that no one cares about.
nalekberov··on Fastpotify
Without looking at the codebase I am pretty sure it’s a vibe coded rust app, because this is what today’s most programmers understand about software.
nalekberov··on Fastpotify
> We're going to vibe code the entire enshittified internet to be ours once again.

It’s such a wishful thinking, but no it doesn’t and won’t work this way. Code != useful product. Plus today’s web is all about fabricated content, AI bots, cloudflare challenge walls and all other annoying stuff. The very idea of being able to create something in seconds is already killing internet.

nalekberov··on New Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra
Boy, oh boy Apple is the new shovel seller during AI gold rush.

Most people at Apple have already realized that their processors are already too powerful for regular users - heck, as a developer my M2 Pro with 32 GB RAM is more than enough for me.

Regular users don’t care about local AI either. So, they will probably extract as much money as possible during AI gold rush, but then we will most likely see Apple

a. Making their software worse (god forbid, forced updates)

b. Making their hardware impossible to repair (as they almost accomplished this already) and easier to break.

nalekberov··on The Amazon Tax
Amazon has the most useless search I know. Also, idk who clicks those 'Sponsored' results, but for me they are an automatic pass. But then again Amazon is such a scumbag company that uses its own brands as a weapon to make sellers pay to be visible.
nalekberov··on How I use LLMs to learn complex topics
> What you get is a beautiful animation that is 100% accurate and free of hallucinations.

I am pretty sure this person is

a. Ignorant of the fact, that AI is designed to give just answers, they do not care whether they’re true or not

b. Have never Cross-checked Information given by AI with reliable sources

nalekberov··on JEP 401: Value Objects (Preview) merged to OpenJDK master
> JavaScript was not developed as a fork of Java, but much of its basic syntax still resembles Java, so I think it's fair to compare them.

It's absolutely irrelevant to compare these two languages. Calling the former "Javascript" was just a marketing trick.

nalekberov··on Google fixed more Chrome bugs in June than over the past two years, thanks to AI
Real question is: how much those "fixed" bugs actually bothered the users to begin with?

But since Google cares mostly about its investors, the numbers and a mention of Gemini in such a blog post are more important.

nalekberov··on US citizen charged after GrapheneOS phone wipes during airport search
It has always fascinated me, the degree to which airport staff feel so important, as if the world would stop revolving without them.
nalekberov··on Stolen Buttons
People will do any useless thing to self-promote.
