nagasadhu··on I switched from Htmx to Datastar
The open core part of the project was removed from NPM. Available only on GitHub. There are no published plugins from the community, nor is there a repo where the community could have collaborated on OSS adding/plugins.

Are people being entitled expecting it ? Yes. Is there something stopping people from taking up this work and creating a repo ? No. But it is illustrative of the attitude of the owners. The point is not to accuse of rug pull but how confident is the community in taking a dependency on such a project. The fact that the lead dev had to write an article responding to misunderstandings is in response to what the community feels about this.

The argument on their discord for licensing for professional teams 'contact us for pricing' goes like it depends on the number of employees in the company including non-tech folks.

nagasadhu··on I switched from Htmx to Datastar
Echo this. Like the tech, but the community is toxic, led by the lead dev from the front. Don't see a future.
nagasadhu··on Ask HN: Web frameworks – which less popular frameworks are you using and why?
Giraffe -F# Functional framework built on top of ASP.NET.
nagasadhu··on Tell HN: Transfer your Google domain to other registrar before it locks you out
Anyone using aws workmail ? How has been the experience ? i think Aws uses gandi for domain registration.
nagasadhu··on Algebraic Data Types in Elixir
>obvious advantages in using a language with a large community and creating a new community is a years long process, apart from the technical complexity of designing and implementing a language

All projects including elixir started as one man's itch and turned to large communities. It has to start somewhere... Much of what you and I use today wouldn't exist if people only worked what they were paid to do.

nagasadhu··on Algebraic Data Types in Elixir
> if I'd want static types I'd be using one of the many static typed languages out there.

Some of us want to have the concurrency and resilience of the BEAM with ADTs for data modelling and other static type advantages.

Caramel, gleam and purerl are worthy efforts in this direction. A more production ready half-ass alternative is to use elixir with whatever type advantages you can get.

nagasadhu··on Ask HN: Why the web lately is all about JavaScript?
Same here. Mixing ui and data logic layer was not pretty. Alpine js didn't cut it for me.
nagasadhu··on Inflation is differential and restructuring (2021)
That's basically saying u can't hold on to ur hard earned money after paying taxes. Give it to the government or some pension firm. And depend on the government and incompetent regulators to take care of you in your old age.
nagasadhu··on Citizens reject proposed South Africa law linking biometrics to SIM cards
Then I would be more worried about which radical extremist would use it to plot the next terror attack. With some proof of ownership of the sim one would atleast have a human trace. Sure terrorists these days use satellite phones but giving away sims on a bowl without any proof of ownership is just lowering the entry barrier.
nagasadhu··on Nigerian airlines to halt operations over rising jet fuel costs
I thought Nigeria was a major oil producer. No ? If yes, why are they paying for fuel in dollars ?
nagasadhu··on Declassified memo 'confirms' direct connection between Saudi government and 9/11
A huge part of the Afghan war against the Soviets was funded by private citizens of the gulf. Huge sums of oil money were spent on recruiting religious mercenaries. Saudis spend huge sums annually on exporting wahabi islam overseas. Iran has their version of this arrangement too. The Saudis offered to build mosques all through Europe when asked to do their share for the Syrian refugees. I call this religious extremism. An intolerance of other religions combined with forceful propagation of your own. Somehow muslims in the gulf and other countries feel the need to fight for muslims in other sovereign countries. Never heard of a practising Christian voicing a protest against treatment of Christians in some sovereign Islamic republic. On the other hand i never heard of the Russian orthodox church meddling in the affairs of other countries. The KGB maybe.. but not the church. The distinction being religious ideology vs others. Political islam is unlike political Christianity. Political Christianity died with the crusades. Political islam thrives in the modern age. Mix that with oil money u get a deadly combo. Sure the west has bombed the daylights out of the middle east but again it was for sake of pure financial gain from oil. America is out for global military dominance. That's the political ideology. It is not fighting a crusade which is a religious ideology.
nagasadhu··on Declassified memo 'confirms' direct connection between Saudi government and 9/11
Interesting you feel that way... The point i was trying to make was that oil or financial strength seems to have little to do with exploitation of humans and other resources. Colonialism for example. I feel its just the dark side of human civilization and comes from a sense of exceptionalism. The Americans and the colonialists before them just took great pains to varnish their actions with random moral arguments and exceptionalism. Many others didn't bother with the whitewashing.

One curious note is that only the gulf countries fuelled religious extremism with oil. Even then not all of them. None of the other major oil deposit holders like Norway or Russia did anything to further ideology. Political power may be. But not ideology.

nagasadhu··on Declassified memo 'confirms' direct connection between Saudi government and 9/11
That's not unique to the Saudis or oil money. Lot of communist regimes have done it too.. Khmer in Cambodia, many central african regimes. Not to mention European history. Probably the best example of this statement would be the early white settlers to North America or European settlers in South America.
nagasadhu··on Ubuntu 22.04 LTS
Better laptop battery life and a cooler running desktop. U could achieve this on Ubuntu if u have the patience to get the configuration right.
nagasadhu··on Fossil
I am not sold on the wiki and issue tracker. What would be a killer feature is a web UI interface to fossil commands like sublime merge for git.
nagasadhu··on Fossil
One thing that has prevented me from trying out fossil is there is no squash. The team has a principled stand on not having it.
nagasadhu··on US campaign behind the turmoil in Kiev (2004)
I recently saw a YouTube video in which a foreign policy expert played a recording of a phone conversation between 2 US foreign office officials orchestrating and conspiring to overthrow the then elected Ukranian government. Does someone know where to find the entire recording ?
nagasadhu··on Tell HN: Mailchimp locked my account because I'm Russian
Feel sorry for you mate. But citizens of the world have to put up with American hegemony and the hubris of having better military weapons and the petro dollar. You may not find much empathy by appealing to moral scruples on social media.
nagasadhu··on Adobe XD, where did it go wrong?
Affinity photo
nagasadhu··on My Elm Experience
You don't have to use exceptions and other operators with side effects if you don't want to. You can have a pure FP experience with fable and F#. The OP was just mentioning that these escape hatches are available if you need them.
nagasadhu··on Ask HN: OOP in Functional Programming Language
F#. It's functional first. Supports currying, HoF, maybe types, composition, pipelining and most of the functional goodies. It offers a neat indented syntax for OOPs.

You can also do function calls with optional arguments with defaults.

nagasadhu··on AI’s anti-Muslim bias problem
China has been committing a genocide in Tibet for generations. Somehow when it came to Uighurs it is a problem and Tibetans are conveniently ignored. The point being that the real world is biased. AI is bound to be biased.
