nabeards··on Tell HN: CNN Lite no longer functional
I read it yesterday, and I’ve seen it down in the past. But when it was down before, there were no articles listed at all, so this seems different.
nabeards··on Tell HN: CNN Lite no longer functional
I was in the same boat until I found the lite site. But I guess less news is fine for now.
nabeards··on Tell HN: CNN Lite no longer functional
Heh, a long, long time ago I made a View Source app for iOS for specifically this purpose.
nabeards··on A Week in the Life of a McDonald’s Cashier
Again, why not?
nabeards··on A Week in the Life of a McDonald’s Cashier
Sure, why not? There’s a ridiculous amount of money out there, but people are squabbling over pennies.
nabeards··on The 80/24 Rule
I always took it to mean, "Don't put all the code into one function because it's easy, do it because it's logical."
nabeards··on Pocket Popcorn Computer: Linux in Your Pocket
I’ve been watching Tap a long time, but haven’t tried it yet. Previous HN discussion: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=11933956
nabeards··on A collection of bad practices in HTML
Perhaps in their native language a J is sometimes/always pronounced like an English Y.
nabeards··on Software Updates
I've used odrive since it launched, and have never installed any native sync tools since. It's exactly what I want cloud sync to be.
nabeards··on Ask HN: What's a promising area to work on?
Definitely take a look at Rome2Rio, https://www.rome2rio.com. We've been using it for years, and have been carless nearly as long.
nabeards··on Silicon Valley is one of the most polluted places in the country
Would be awesome if there was an update there!
nabeards··on PySceneDetect – A tool for detecting scenes in movies
Testing with some older black and white shows, results aren't accurate to catch fades-to-black. Any options I should be playing with?
nabeards··on Slack Security Incident
I’ve been running my 100% remote team on it the last few months, it works very well for us. Never been a fan of Slack, and never use any bots, so just comms.
nabeards··on Costa Rica has run on 100% renewable energy for 300 days
Did you travel outside the normal tourist areas?
nabeards··on The Popularity of the 4.7″ iPhone
100% agree. I went into an Apple Store for the first time in a long while just a few weeks ago, and I couldn't believe how heavy the phones have gotten I have an iPhone 6 now and just don't see a good reason to upgrade. Even if I can't upgrade to iOS 13, I'll probably wait another year or two.
nabeards··on Games and Graphics in Popup URL Bars
Matthew has demonstrated other cool URL features previously: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=19679890

And I like his video style!

nabeards··on Show HN: Ethical Resources – 300 ethical alternatives to mainstream stuff
I'm surprised to not see keybase.io on here. Any ethical issues with their service I'm unaware of?
nabeards··on How the Maker of TurboTax Fought Free, Simple Tax Filing (2013)
This sounds incredibly useful! Care to share? I could see building off of this to find optimal deduction paths, zeroing out liabilities, etc.
nabeards··on Ask HN: What are some great personal blogs/portfolios?
matthewrayfield.com is one of my faves. Old-school web with fun tech.
nabeards··on How to Install PureOS on a MacBook Pro
Yes, I was able to get Grub setup on my internal drive, so now I just boot directly into PureOS and hold down option to boot to macOS. I'll def have that info in my next entry, but you basically just copy the Grub config files I link to in the post to your internal drive's EFI partition (without deleting the Apple stuff that's there).
nabeards··on Gophish: An open source phishing toolkit
Does this toolkit actually send emails out, or connect to a mail server? If it connects to a mail server, does it handle any stats with regard to if the email was successfully sent?
nabeards··on EU to stop changing the clocks in 2019
It's 1 to 4% energy cost based on https://www.mitpressjournals.org/doi/10.1162/REST_a_00131 Additionally, that study found increased pollution and associated costs.
nabeards··on Sony posts whole movie on YouTube in trailer's place
I have to disagree. I almost always see trailers and features stored right next to each other in the same folder.
nabeards··on Ask HN: Organizing company knowledge?
Do you have a summary for it?
nabeards··on YouTube and Facebook Are Losing Creators to Blockchain-Powered Rivals
Agreed; but could we start with new media? This is a real nightmare for the industry.
nabeards··on YouTube and Facebook Are Losing Creators to Blockchain-Powered Rivals
It would be awesome if blockchain could solve the issue of rights management at the scale of media content. Tracking ownership of the individual parts (script, logos, video, etc) as well as the transfer of ownership of those parts.
nabeards··on Ask HN: What are the some passive income strategies you do beside your IT job?
You would?
nabeards··on Ask HN: Who do you trust most with your data?
odrive.com does this very well IMO.

Unfortunately, there are only two more chances to take this exam: next month or April of 2019.
nabeards··on Thunderbird 52.7.0 released
But sad it only goes back to Mac 10.9.
