nabeards··on GitLab Outage
Just went to push code and found this out.
nabeards··on Regeneration of used batteries via electrode–electrolyte interphase dissolution
The recycling process isn’t direct battery-to-battery. The lead from old batteries is removed, purified, dried into ingots, then sold back to battery manufacturers to make new batteries. In other words, it’s likely that every lead acid battery you buy is made from recycled batteries.

Good rundown of the process here: https://batterycouncil.org/battery-facts-and-applications/ho...

Ah, bummer haha
nabeards··on Helsinki Hacker News Meetup
As in North East, PA, the town in Erie County?
nabeards··on We're making Bunny DNS free: because a faster internet won't build itself
I can finally automate our wildcard certs. Our current DNS host doesn’t have an API.
nabeards··on Show HN: Edsger – A handwritten Clojure REPL for the reMarkable 2
I’ve had mine for nearly five years, USB charging continues to work.
nabeards··on The End of Eleventy
For those looking for an SSG with WYSIWYG, please take a look at Publii. I have no affiliation other than being a user, but I wish more people were aware of it.
nabeards··on Project Nomad – Knowledge That Never Goes Offline
I had thought of building those exact Civil Defense devices a few years ago. Maybe it’s a viable product?
nabeards··on Show HN: Turn raw HTML into production-ready images for free
I personally haven't had Chrome installed anywhere in years. I think there are more than a dozen of us!
nabeards··on He set out to walk around the world. After 27 years, his quest is nearly over
100% agreed, it’s been my experience traveling for the past ten years as well.
nabeards··on Apple Debuts iPhone 17
Same here. I’m going to get a new battery soon, so that’ll give me a few more years. I’m hoping something comes along in that time that I want. Otherwise, I may just go to a Japanese eInk phone.
nabeards··on Hiroshima (1946)
This is specifically called out as a reason in the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. I was there just a few weeks ago. It's also available here:

"The United States believed that ending the war with an atomic bombing would help prevent the Soviet Union from extending its sphere of influence."

nabeards··on Bitchat – A decentralized messaging app that works over Bluetooth mesh networks
I use Berkanan for just this purpose. Sometimes my partner and I don’t sit next to each other, and it’s an easy way to message.
nabeards··on Juneteenth in Photos
Wow just saw this interaction. Sorry about that racist ass’s comments.
nabeards··on What would a Kubernetes 2.0 look like
Per the K3s web site and their docs, they don’t call out that it’s good for bare metal production. That tells me it’s not built for heavy workloads, and is instead for dev environments and edge compute.
nabeards··on Juneteenth in Photos
They’re all made up.
nabeards··on Show HN: Canine – A Heroku alternative built on Kubernetes
Exactly the same as you said. Nobody rents GPUs as cheap as I can get them for LLM work in-cluster.
nabeards··on Show HN: Canine – A Heroku alternative built on Kubernetes
Looks like your video is k3s. Just a heads up to others hoping for a k8s bare metal setup.
nabeards··on The cryptography behind passkeys
Agreed Stefan! I keep mine in separate vaults for this purpose. I’m still not on board with passkeys yet, but the discussion here makes BitWarden seem like the best solution.
nabeards··on Google has most of my email because it has all of yours (2014)
Client certs were amazing, wholeheartedly agree!

I see you are suffering from something that always happened to me when championing them: they were so unknown that people assumed you meant PGP…sigh.

nabeards··on Show HN: I built a word game. My mom thinks it's great. What do you think?
Stop spamming the thread, sheesh.
nabeards··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (March 2025)
Going to work while sick exposes everyone there to whatever you have. That’s a very careless act.
nabeards··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (March 2025)
Very excited to see this as I’ve been struggling to increase my amount of deep sleep each night. I sleep 7.5 hours, but only get an average of 1 hour of deep sleep. What’s the timeline look like?
nabeards··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (March 2025)
Just get a cert error…

nabeards··on DOGE employees ordered to stop using Slack
