Is anyone using Oxen.ai? This is the first use of it I've seen.
mydpy··on Modern AI Stack: Design Principles for Future of Enterprise AI Architectures
These stack diagrams are always such bullshit.
mydpy··on List of photographs considered the most important
The technological and societal progress in less than 200 years is astounding.
mydpy··on Databricks Releases 15K Record Training Corpus for Instruction Tuning LLMs

mydpy··on Free Dolly: First truly open instruction-tuned LLM
Right, but this is still impressive given how quickly Databricks created and open-sourced the dataset. I would expect more improvements in the future.
mydpy··on Hello Dolly: Democratizing the magic of ChatGPT with open models
What a great time to be in this field. It’s advancing so quickly!
mydpy··on How useful was the Netflix Prize challenge for Netflix?
The article doesn’t emphasize the impact made by new technologies invented in pursuit of this prize. For example, this contest was a motivating factor for the creators of Apache Spark.
mydpy··on Layoffs Are Coming
If anything, I think tech is protected from the effects of the coming recession. Our industry is one of the best poised to maintain business as usual. That said, the impact of the economic effects is coming.
mydpy··on FCC Chairman Proposes Robocall Blocking by Default
Does anyone have statistics on the impact of robocallers? They're ubiquitous and universally obnoxious. I haven't seen any reporting on their effectiveness for the services they're advertising for. I wonder why do they even bother.

I understand these calls mostly take advantage of unsuspecting people, but I still can't imagine the impact these calls are making financially.

mydpy··on Yarn's Future – v2 and beyond
For the uninitiated / confused, this refers to yarnpkg, the JavaScript dependency manager, not (Hadoop) YARN, the cluster manager.
mydpy··on DataFusion (Rust) vs. Apache Spark – First Benchmarks
Exactly. This isn’t a benchmark at all.
mydpy··on Facebook rolls out job posts to become the blue-collar LinkedIn
This is going to kill snagajob.com
mydpy··on James Damore has filed a class action lawsuit against Google
Legal question: Most employment agreements require employees sign an arbitration clause. Even though these have mixed enforceability, they are very intimidating (which I believe is their intended purpose).

If you had a high-profile case like this, are you choosing to defy the arbitration agreement? Anyone ever gone through this and willing to share the process?

mydpy··on A Jigsaw Puzzle Was Given to Ellis Island Immigrants to Test Their IQ
"We're going to call it 'extreme vetting'."
mydpy··on Ask HN: Which companies have the best blogs written by their engineering team?
Agreed. Personally I think asking for general blog recommendations is not helpful. I just google topics I'm interested and start to create that list myself.

Also - I think the idea of creating blog followers is becoming less popular. I use aggregators like this to help collect the content and I can filter on my own.

mydpy··on Databricks lays production data pipelines
I mean, it's CIO mag, so it's written for the audience. This is the first announcement I've seen for this topic, so maybe they'll follow-up with some engineering blog posts in the next few weeks.
mydpy··on Cloudera files to raise $200M in IPO
This isn't unique. From Snap, which had a net operating loss in 2016 of $515 million, compared with a net loss of $373 million a year earlier:

"We have incurred operating losses in the past, expect to incur operating losses in the future, and may never achieve or maintain profitability"

mydpy··on Ask HN: Should I quit Uber?
I agree with general sentiment expressed by others; a reasonable next opportunity shouldn't judge you because you worked for an unpopular company.

In fact, we're thinking the opposite: let's use this as an opportunity to hire engineers in your position (and we're currently hiring).

mydpy··on Ask HN: Were you able to mitigate the impact of the AWS us-east-1 incident? How?
Which AWS services do you use?
mydpy··on Why I Don’t Talk to Google Recruiters
The other way to respond: thanks, I'm interested. Alternatively: no thanks, I'm not interested. Recruiters aren't monkeys or slaves. This post is arrogant and rude.
mydpy··on The “Inside Airbnb” project has earned the home-sharing company bad press
Sorry, I was criticizing the referenced article not your title on HN.
mydpy··on The “Inside Airbnb” project has earned the home-sharing company bad press
He's not alone. The article talks about the importance of his collaborator Slee. Weird, click-baitey article title.
mydpy··on What should you think about when using Facebook?
I think it's interesting that despite deep and widely-publicized privacy concerns, Facebook's users have mostly been loyal to the platform. Myself included.

Data collections seems necessary to monetize the platform. Are there any alternatives, or do we just need smaller more close-knit social networks?

mydpy··on Ask HN: How to answer properly “Why we should hire you” question?
The answer to this will probably change based on where you are in your career.
mydpy··on Facebook’s Hiring Process Hinders Its Effort to Create a Diverse Workforce
True, but I think the issue is that quality engineers of color are few. When I say supply side, I mean, there are far fewer graduates of color in STEM from top universities, etc.
mydpy··on Facebook’s Hiring Process Hinders Its Effort to Create a Diverse Workforce
No, it's still fair to currently represented classes (whites and asians). In practice this means exploring different networks, using different sourcing techniques, creating mentoring environments, etc.
mydpy··on Facebook’s Hiring Process Hinders Its Effort to Create a Diverse Workforce
I have always viewed tech diversity as a supply-side problem. Demand is definitely there.
mydpy··on Atlassian acquires Trello for $425M
I kinda see Jira and Trello as separate target markets. Jira = Enterprise (for me) and Trello = Small-to-mid-sized companies and personal use.

My company uses Jira (correctly) and it is great - for software. I keep all of my personal lists in Trello.

Also - VersionOne <<<<<<<<< Jira

mydpy··on Eatsa: Quinoa-based fast food
This is what worries me about Eatsa :-/
mydpy··on Eatsa: Quinoa-based fast food
I've been to their Spear street location in San Francisco. It's excellent for a quick and healthy (yet hearty) breakfast. It's novel to go inside and not see people cooking the food you're enjoying.
