Without investors, Holmes never would have mattered. The investments are what enabled her to commit the fraud.
I think that they've confused functional and declarative?
If the most qualified capitalists cannot tell whether a CEO is fraudulent, then it seems that we should alter the CEO appointment system somehow. In particular, I hear stories of automated decision-making algorithms being prototyped to replace executive officers; members of the board/cabinet each submit a machine-readable proposal, and the algorithm chooses one. Would Theranos have been successful in their fraud if they had not had Sunny and Holmes at the helm?
I grew up shopping at a Bi-Mart. Some folks have entire careers at Mondragon. Worker cooperatives are incredibly successful; we should really be asking why traditional corporations get so many subsidies and tax benefits.
Also, seriously, stop blowing the fucking dogwhistles. "Even Wikileaks tried to help," you say? Did Wikileaks send their peacekeeping forces, raise the issue in UN, wage a legal fight in USA courts to stop the killing? The Yes Men did more to stop the Iraq & Afghanistan wars than Wikileaks.
* IQ causes income
* Income causes IQ
* Some unknown thing causes both income and IQ
* The correlation is spurious; IQ and income are unrelated
Evidence strongly suggests that the third bullet point is true; socioeconomic class causes both income and IQ. Richer people living in nicer neighborhoods both have better opportunities for income, and also better opportunities for education; education causes IQ. This is why redlining is brought up so often as a root cause of so many of the disparities in quality of life; redlining deepened socioeconomic divides.
In general, you'll find that "leftists" believe that psychometrics is bogus in terms of science. Instead, it masquerades as science in order to fool the public into believing that biased public policy is neutral. There's no denial that some folks have brain damage, developmental disabilities, etc. but a denial that standardized tests are an appropriate proxy for genuine medical diagnoses.
Community colleges should present themselves as a public benefit. We shouldn't ask that everybody pass any class, simply that everybody has the opportunity to attend/audit any class. It is unfortunately true that the typical university administration is clueless and money-grubbing, preferring graduation rates to other metrics.
Look at ethics for an example. Mathematics is the venue for arguing against utilitarianism. Putting those together with category theory, we get a mathematical explanation for why pragmatic ethics is preferable to utilitarian ethics.
For starters, they all assume Jehovah exists, or seek to prove he exists. However, we have falsifications for most of the claims of Jehovah:
* Egyptology disproves the Exodus
* The Documentary Hypothesis disproves inspiration of the holy texts
* Quantum mechanics disproves omnipotence and omniscience
So the field of Christian philosophy is built upon sand which has already been washed away; the foundations already collapsed. How about the main philosophers?
* Aquinas just parroted Aristotle
* Augustine claimed that war can be justified and that souls exist
* Erasmus didn't really say anything of note
* Ockham gave us tools for breaking out of Christianity!
The main contribution of Christian philosophy to the rest of philosophy is the confirmation that Jehovah is an epistemic dead end.
I know that liberals aren't great people. But y'all're cryptofascists, not liberals, and you're far worse.
