mvdtnz··on Gemini 4 Argon
More Cartmanland marketing. It's the best park ever, and you can't come!

Get lost.

mvdtnz··on Sonnet 5.5
I can't understand it. Clearly someone cares because like you say the comments are always upvoted. But why anyone cares I simply don't know. It just feels like attention seeking behaviour to continue posting it.
mvdtnz··on PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock
No. I don't want to stream a video from some dude on a mobile connection heading into a train tunnel. There's simply no upside for me.
mvdtnz··on PipePipe: NewPipe hard fork implementing SponsorBlock
With no end in sight to the increasing cost of storage I can't imagine a worse time to put the burden of video storage onto users.

Even forgetting that issue, the last thing I want is to use some unknown, unpredictably changing residential connection for my videos. Google has invested in a powerful edge network so they can server my videos lightning quick.

mvdtnz··on Rails World 2026 Opening Keynote [video]
One of the things I admire most about Basecamp is that they are a bootstrapped, profitable business. There's no shame in running a business this way. The world would be more resilient if more business owners grew sustainably instead of soaking up endless invester funding and losing money year after year before enshittifying in a desperate attempt to repay their overlords.
mvdtnz··on Suspension of the de minimis administrative exemption for imports $800 or less
Whether it's illegal or not is irrelevant to the comment I was responding to, which incorrectly claimed "He didn't manage to sell them. Everyone hates the tariffs".

He campaigned and won with tarrifs as one of his main policy points. Voters favour them. Americans get tarrifs because Americans want tarrifs. Deal with it.

mvdtnz··on Suspension of the de minimis administrative exemption for imports $800 or less
He campaigned and won on tariffs. A plurality of Americans favor them, evidently.
mvdtnz··on The Google Play app review process now regularly takes longer than a week
Stop deploying software onto closed platforms. There's no excuse.
mvdtnz··on Gemini 3.8 Live and 3.8 Live Extended Thinking
My Gemini app is still stuck at 3.5 Flash-lite and 3.6 Flash so I truly don't understand how Google rolls this stuff out. I don't use Gemini for anything serious so I'm not going to use the API, but it's my go-to for just searching basic information (replacing google search) because it's so darn fast.
mvdtnz··on GrapheneOS' rewritten Messages app is released
I'll believe it when I see it.
mvdtnz··on GrapheneOS' rewritten Messages app is released
Literally any? Really? Are you sure you're not looking at this through an Americancentric lens? The Google phone was never offered in my market, so second hand options are simply not available.
mvdtnz··on GrapheneOS' rewritten Messages app is released
What do you mean "why"? For the exact reason he stated in his first paragraph - a serious regression impacting his workflow.
mvdtnz··on Jellyfin 12.0
It sounds like a real pain in the ass upgrade, I'm thankful I've put off trying Jellyfin this long.
mvdtnz··on Hackers have withdrawn ~4k BTC (~$320M) from the Liquid Federation wallet
I mean of course it was. Everything in this whole ludicrous space is a scam of one kind or another. It's amazing to me that this is still even a point of discussion. It's obviously a rug pull.
mvdtnz··on Hackers have withdrawn ~4k BTC (~$320M) from the Liquid Federation wallet
What do they care if there's a panic? They have "paused the sidechain". No one can act on their panic.
mvdtnz··on Uber shuts operations in Nigeria and Uganda with immediate effect
Read the article to find out.
mvdtnz··on Uber shuts operations in Nigeria and Uganda with immediate effect
Your take isn't controversial, it's just wrong. And you seem to be implying everywhere outside of USA and Europe is a developing region?
mvdtnz··on Gemini 3.8 Flash and 3.8 Flash Cyber
As someone who has stubbornly stuck with Claude Code, what's a good harness for Gemini models?
mvdtnz··on Introducing Ad Blocker for Firefox on iOS
It doesn't weaken his position at all. Just because it hurts your delicate sensibilities.

mvdtnz··on How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been?
I ask again, have you ever heard Zitron speak? The way he presents himself has absolutely nothing in common with any tech CEO or AI enthusiast I have ever seen.
mvdtnz··on How accurate have Ed Zitron's AI skeptic predictions been?
Have you ever listened to Zitron speak? He's not exactly the type to hedge his predictions behind careful language about how hard predictions are. He makes every one of these predictions with absolute confidence and conviction.
mvdtnz··on AnkiDroid: Google Play no longer allowing Open Collective donation link
Build it on the web. Almost no software needs to be in an app.
mvdtnz··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
Which Asian cultures are you speaking about which have high social cohesion without threat of punishment? Singapore will punish anti-social behaviour like vandalism with mandatory caning, or fine you heavily for jay walking. In Japan police will intervene much more readily in cases of public intoxication and even noise complaints.

For more serious anti social behaviour like gun crimes, violent crimes and drug trafficking there are very strong mandatory penalties up to and including corporal punishment and execution.

Conviction rates in these countries are upwards of 99%. So in cases of intervention a punishment is almost certain.

mvdtnz··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
We in the west have surrendered with weak punishments and lax enforcement for anti social behaviour. In many cases even abolishing laws or putting in place public policy that prevents the imprisonment of people who commit "low level" crimes. There's a certain segment of the population who will (largely unsuccessfully) try to shame you if you promote a tough on crime approach.

In my country the entire justice system has been hijacked by activist judges who are hell bent on promoting these whacky ideas and letting serious criminals go virtually unpunished.

mvdtnz··on Where did all the public bathrooms go?
Is this a serious question? Maybe people don't want to put their bare ass down on filthy bootprints.
mvdtnz··on Canada will match US tariffs 'dollar for dollar' as trade talks break down
It's difficult to imagine lower quality comments. If you asked an AI to generate the lowest quality, most content-free comment thread possible I doubt it could rival the quality of comments on that website.
mvdtnz··on Felony Bench
All of those parties should be held accountable.

User should be more carefully supervising the work being done.

The model host is on-selling a crime-committing machine.

The developer of the harness/agent, as above.

The developer of the LLM for hopefully very obvious reasons.

mvdtnz··on The August 17 outage
Mine would look the same if you didn't have access to the private repositories I contribute to at work.
mvdtnz··on Apple announces changes for apps in the European Union
Really? What would you estimate is Apple's market share of iPhone apps if it's so far below 95%?
