muhehe··on Meta Now Charges $200 Annually for Privacy – A High Cost for User Data Security
Wait..I thought this charge is for removing ads, not actually adding privacy.
muhehe··on A Deep Dive into 70 Layers of Obfuscated Info-Stealer Malware
This article feels weird to me. It starts (in about 3 bullet points) with mentioning super duper 70layers of obfuscated supermalwar; how their company is awesome and unbeatable and finally that their customers are safe. Then there is very shallow text of several "this steals your X" without much details.

This ad sucks.

muhehe··on Introduction to Immutable Linux Systems
Thanks I'll look into the arch links.
muhehe··on Introduction to Immutable Linux Systems
How would you approach making immutable live-cd like Linux? No persistence at all, just boot it and run some app - think some kind of presentation panel which shows predefined program/URL. Ideally net booted to avoid having storage at all.
muhehe··on Just normal web things
There is one site I always admire (non-ironic) in this regard - twitter. I scroll it's feed, click on tweet, dive into several sub-threads and then I can easily get back to main feed where I was. (Unless they fucked it up recently).

That's shiny example of doing it right. Too sad it's pretty much only one.

muhehe··on Just normal web things
One of many things I hate on crappy modern web is messing with history (API). You click a interesting-looking link somewhere (like HN), go to page. You scroll down, either reading or just skimming, and every funcking header (or even something less important) add entry to you history. To get back to original site you have to click back like a million times.

Fuck everyone who does that.

muhehe··on Fixed Bits of Version 4 UUID (2015)
I agree with both of you. It is quite weak article with weird jump to the infinite loop. But then again you are right too - it's your blog you can write whatever you want. Don't get discouraged and keep doing what you like!
muhehe··on FDA approves first nonprescription daily oral contraceptive
Correct. We, the high-tech HN crowd, often forget about third world countries with terrible healt care.
muhehe··on Thunderbird 115
Gmail is quite ok-ish for me, outlook is outright terrible. They also take quite a lot of time to load.

Besides, when you have more than one mail with more providers it sucks.

muhehe··on Sensor Fingerprints: Camera Identification and Beyond
Does this survive jpeg (or similar) compression or do you need raw file for this?
muhehe··on Cases where full scans are better than indexes
> Justify the dev time

And this is exactly the sentiment that got us where we are.

muhehe··on Amnesty International criticised for using AI-generated images
Honestly... those images are openly marked as generated. I don't see too much trouble with this. If they tried to pretend they're real, that would be totally fucked up, yes.
muhehe··on Developers should be force-fed state machines (2011)
I keep seeing "use statemachine", but it all seems very abstract to me. How would you "use statemachine" in, let's say python? Is there some library, or is more of a conceptual thing for code organization?

This is probably stupid question but I can't really grasp what I should do. I'd like to because I'm currently tasked to create something like order system, which could benefit from this, but I don't know where to start.

muhehe··on Modern software performance is firmly in its “beyond parody” stage
It was about 25mb, but that would be still nothing for current computers. The problem was it was done by custom-made super inefficient parser.
muhehe··on Docker is deleting Open Source organisations - what you need to know
Can someone recommend some simple "caching proxy for docker images"? Something where instead of docker/podman pull docker.io/something I would do docker/podman pull my.cache/something and it would do the rest. Official docker registry image is supposed to do this, but cannot mirror other repositories outside of dockerhub.
muhehe··on Common Beginner Mistakes with React
"They had us the first half, I'm not gonna lie"
muhehe··on Jamie: AI assistant that creates meeting summaries
So... you record you internal meeting, with possibly sensitive company information and upload it to some cloud. What could possibly go wrong?
muhehe··on Features I'd Like in PostgreSQL
I dont know. I mean...I'd like that too, but is this really more important than other mentioned features (in this thread or article)? What your reason? (I'm just curious)
muhehe··on Mac OS Ventura Issues
Why do you assume they don't know?
muhehe··on Why does my SSH private key still work after changing some bytes? (2016)
Care to elaborate?
muhehe··on Emulating an iPod Touch 1G and iPhoneOS 1.0 using QEMU (Part I)
Ah, the original design. I must say I miss it. I don't think is pretty or nice, but it had a soul and was very easy to navigate. Pretty much like old windows (and apps) - quite ugly actually, but distinctive, well though and easy to use (mostly).

Sorry for the nostalgia:)

muhehe··on Digitally sign PDF files from your commandline – open-pdf-sign
> so big corporations can save like $5 on paper & postage?

At their scale it's much. I honestly don't care about their costs, but at their scale that's tons of paper and gas that's totally wasted.

I don't know which country you're from, but all my bank statements, utility invoice etc go to my email, so there is no need to log anywhere. I'm not sure about others right now, but utilities are definitely signed. Maybe you could talk to your bank/... about it.

muhehe··on Apple changed how reading books works in iOS 16
Can you confirm it works? Is from 2017 and afaik content bought through apple store has DRM.
muhehe··on Apple changed how reading books works in iOS 16
> But even if I were to buy a Kobo or Boox or something, that wouldn’t help me with the dozens of books I’ve already purchased on Apple’s platform

THIS is the real problem. Books (or music, movie, whatever) tied to one specific platform, without any chance to migrate somewhere else - somewhere where is more comfortable/convenient for you.

muhehe··on Show HN: Hacking Bluetooth to brew coffee in GitHub actions
Well, you have to make sure there is coffee, water, cup and perhaps milk present. You have to clean it regularly. I don't think this is very useful in the end.

That said, it's super cool, I'm sure the author enjoyed this and I myself would definitely try to do it too, if I had a chance :D

muhehe··on Show HN: I wrote a free eBook about many lesser-known/secret database tricks
Really wonder how you "fixed" Gmail :).

Anyway thanks, it's great.

muhehe··on Creating a handwritten TrueType font in Linux (2018)
That's a neat trick!
muhehe··on Show HN: Trading cards made with e-ink displays
Can someone recommend some cheap ESL (as mentioned by other comments), that's easily hackable (as in a push an image to it without much troubles)? Many need proprietary base stations, some use NFC, but I'm looking for something with Bluetooth or ZigBee (or similar). Basically I want simple frame that would update with calendar events (or something), so NFC is not suitable and I don't want to buy expensive base station with lots of extra cruft (especially for one tag)
muhehe··on Creating a handwritten TrueType font in Linux (2018)
Is there any way to have more glyphs for the same letter and choose one randomly? When I write I never have two letters exactly the same. That's the problem with all these "handwritten" fonts - they look too consistent to be written by real hand :) (It would be a really weird feature for a font, I admit)
muhehe··on Where has the passive radar code gone?
