mufti_menk··on Meta disbanded its Responsible AI team
People equate likeability with how deserving someone is for their success, so they always say that Musk got lucky
mufti_menk··on The growing list of companies pulling ads from X
What is vague or variable about it? Groups that explicitly represent themselves as Jewish have promoted progressive ideas such as multiculturalism, and are being criticized for the consequences of those policies.
mufti_menk··on The growing list of companies pulling ads from X
The statement said "Jewish communities", not Jews. The ADL and Israeli government fall under those categories. This kind of response is just like the ADL, who attempt to smear anyone who criticizes their influence as an anti-semite.

You can also engage in that broader topic without defending obvious shit-stirring specific examples/figures, like Musk.

Sure, but when a topic that people don't want to discuss is brought up, people will spend eternity addressing the manner in which it is brought up to avoid addressing any of the concerns directly.

mufti_menk··on America Is Getting Lonelier and More Indoorsy. That's Not a Coincidence
Why would people go outside when the internet offers them infinite entertainment and the illusion of social contact
mufti_menk··on Developing AI models or giant GPU clusters? Uncle Sam would like a word
Very very scary to think about. We must import as many immigrants as possible to make sure it doesn't happen.
mufti_menk··on YouTube's plan backfires, people are installing better ad blockers
I'm a CEO, my opinion decides whether my workers can feed their families this month
mufti_menk··on YouTube's plan backfires, people are installing better ad blockers
Being a youtuber is a hobby, not a job. They do not deserve to be paid.
mufti_menk··on Minimum Viable Secure Product
I will NOT comply with authoritarian demands imposed on me by the EU. My users, MY data. I clearly state how and why I share user data with brokers and users choose of their own volition to use my services. This is NOT unethical.
mufti_menk··on Minimum Viable Secure Product
Better to ask forgiveness than permission. Extra security not worth reduction to sprint velocity ime.
mufti_menk··on The Collateral Damage of A.D.H.D. Drug Shortages
Destroy a kids attention span with Tiktok, diagnose them with a disability and prescribe them meds
mufti_menk··on The Collateral Damage of A.D.H.D. Drug Shortages
No shame in exaggerating symptoms to get an adderall prescription imo. Startups require energy, no different to getting your daily caffeine.
mufti_menk··on West Virginia University to drop 32 majors including all world language programs
Try reading a book vs writing one
mufti_menk··on West Virginia University to drop 32 majors including all world language programs
The model can generate translations and humans can verify that they're accurate enough to be used for training, making corrections if needed. Verifying work is much faster than creating it.
mufti_menk··on West Virginia University to drop 32 majors including all world language programs
As the ML improves the algorithms themselves can be used to generate more training data.
mufti_menk··on Beginner's Guide to Llama Models
I found them beautiful
mufti_menk··on Judge sends Sam Bankman-Fried to jail over witness tampering
Having something you can transact with and store value that isn't completely vulnerable to your government's monetary and foreign policy/capital controls
mufti_menk··on Mpire: A Python package for easier and faster multiprocessing
They're deprecating fork in 1 or 2 versions, one of the main issues with it is copies locks across processes which can cause deadlocks.
mufti_menk··on Seattle becomes first in U.S. to protect gig workers from sudden 'deactivation'
If someone is working multiple gig jobs they are making more than minimum wage. The unions and labor groups that promote this propaganda are just deep-pocketed as any corporation, at least the corporations do something useful.
mufti_menk··on Seattle becomes first in U.S. to protect gig workers from sudden 'deactivation'
These gig workers can be shareholders themselves. These jobs give them flexibility normal employment doesn't provide.
mufti_menk··on Japan prefectures drift away from posting disaster warnings on X
Nah that's matrix thinking. There are wolves and sheep, so you better be a lion.
mufti_menk··on Reflecting on my failure to build a billion-dollar company (2019)
Doesn't need to be a billionaire in USD, if he grinded he could have a penthouse in the Congo. Wealth is relative to your surroundings.
mufti_menk··on Reflecting on my failure to build a billion-dollar company (2019)
If the lotto was comparable at all there would be VC funds investing in tickets instead of companies
mufti_menk··on Reflecting on my failure to build a billion-dollar company (2019)
If you don't have enough experience in an area to see the opportunities in an area, get the expertise. Otherwise find them in your area. If they don't exist go elsewhere. You are ALWAYS the problem.
mufti_menk··on Reflecting on my failure to build a billion-dollar company (2019)
It's tough to try so hard and still fail. Gotta pick yourself up and try again. If you are worthy, you will be wealthy.
mufti_menk··on Ask HN: What is the most powerful, fully open, fully programmable computer?
I agree, there's no point being mad at it since there's good reasons why it ended up this way
mufti_menk··on Ask HN: What is the most powerful, fully open, fully programmable computer?
>computers are orders of magnitude nimbler than what experience in our day-to-day

True but that's looking at it from only a technical POV. The market clearly doesn't care about some extra latency, and in return bloat means a massive decrease in the cost and time taken to develop software. Electron allows a company to use a single team of web devs (most common skillset, cheaper labor pool) cross-platform, why would they give that up for better performance? The bloat will keep piling as long as that's the case.

mufti_menk··on SEC asked Coinbase to halt trading in everything except bitcoin, CEO says
If "one guy with commit access to the bitcoin core repo" pushed a change that wasn't in the interest of miners and heavily invested groups, why would they install it?
mufti_menk··on SEC asked Coinbase to halt trading in everything except bitcoin, CEO says
Even Monero?
mufti_menk··on SEC asked Coinbase to halt trading in everything except bitcoin, CEO says
Why don't they just say that and outline their criteria for decentralization
mufti_menk··on California moves to silence Stanford researchers who got data to study education
>We assign "race" based on physical and cultural traits, not genetic.

Not really, everyone knows that an albino African is still an African. Physical traits are just the most visible aspect of genetics. And your second point is just explaining outliers, it doesn't say anything.
