mtrycz2··on Facebook Libra Is Architecturally Unsound
One can build any amount of consumer protection required into most cryptocurrencies. In their bare form they don't have that, exactly like cash doesn't have that.

One can use the desired amount of third parties for fund protection.

The new thing about cryptocurrencies, is that some of these third-party services can be made non-custodial, so the third-party never has access to your funds. They arbiter, but not transmit.

mtrycz2··on Toyota is trying to put solar panels on a Prius to charge battery during the day
Honestly it seems like a nice idea. The idea that a car can go _entirely_ on solar on it's roof is clearly off-limits for now, but that doesn't disqualify the idea entirely.

Say I use my car for the daily commute and I'm some 10 miles away from office. I work 8 hours in the office in daytime, and leave my car in the parking. For when I'm going back home, my battery would be topped up.

I'd need to recharge my car much less, once a month maybe.

Also, say you can do 300 miles with a full charge. Depending on how fast you go, you'll do those 300 miles in 5 to 10 hours. So on average, a the solar aid would give you some additional 15 to 30 miles, ie 5%-10%. Which sounds nice to me.

All with the current technology. Obviously there are tradeoffs, in R&D, price and weight.

But it seems like worth pursing, log-term.

...assuming "rational" behaviour.

A state-actoru, could certainly burn that, and much more.

mtrycz2··on Is “data scientist” the new “programmer”?
One thing I don't like about my source code is it "doing something interesting".

I like my code to be boring. I like my frameworks to be boring. I like my APIs to be boring. So I can focus on important things in life (or even the important things at work), and be done with it.

I also disagree with the premise that research happens on hypertexts.

When you do research you need to concentrate on the lecture at hand in-depth, not get lost in a web of references breadth-first style.

I'm not sure it covers all of the obscure commands you can think of, but 99% of the time it's great.
