mssundaram··on Modern Javascript: Everything you missed over the last 10 years (2020)
Probably in contrast to the embedded hardware development the OP does...
mssundaram··on Lasting immunity found after recovery from Covid-19
They did this themselves. Fauci, CDC and WHO constantly have gone back and forth between each other and themselves.
mssundaram··on Babel is used by millions, so why are we running out of money?
I like the meta joke
mssundaram··on Babel is used by millions, so why are we running out of money?
132k is not that much for a US salary. And besides, I'd rather see the engineers of such an important project be well paid.
mssundaram··on Game developers sharing their salaries on Twitter
You can even perceive it from the vernacular of how you refer to "crunch" - it has a feeling of something often talked about, a term used in the industry.
mssundaram··on Inefficient Efficiency (2019)
If you're into other sources of caffeine, matcha can almost be described as instant green tea.
mssundaram··on ABI Mistakes
Speaking just on the design of the article, Firefox Reader mode is very useful here
mssundaram··on Goodwill doesn't want broken toasters
Do you think that accounting is always correct, accurate and not rigged?
mssundaram··on Goodwill doesn't want broken toasters
Feel good virtue signaling
mssundaram··on Estimation of total mortality due to COVID-19
Thank you, somebody with some sense
mssundaram··on Why I Work on Ads
> If a user paid a "Premium Internet" monthly fee, Google Ads could have a flag that turns it's data collection/sharing off

That would be horrible! Data collection and sharing should be off by default, and I never want to see a "Premium Internet" experience.

mssundaram··on The experts can stay wrong longer than you can stay alive
This article restricts its focus to borders, but I wonder if the author is also extending that to include internal lockdowns, for which there is a great amount of evidence that they're unproductive and destructive - see r/LockdownSkepticism for further reading.
mssundaram··on Announcing Rome Tools, Inc.
[redacted]
mssundaram··on Reddit Outage
Perhaps you meant https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ ?
mssundaram··on A CBP contract shows the risks in connecting your vehicle and your smartphone
I'm having trouble understanding how 100 miles from the border covers 90% of the US population?

Edit: I see - I was thinking only in terms of e.g. the Arizona southern border, however looking up the Constitution Free Zone shows that it means the entire US - California, all states connected to Cananda etc.

Eidt 2: Would this mean ALL of Hawaii is in this Constitution Free Zone?

mssundaram··on Verizon Sells AOL and Yahoo to Apollo for $5B
I think he does and I think he's found a way to make money in crypto, even though he previously stated he thinks it will end badly
mssundaram··on Verizon Sells AOL and Yahoo to Apollo for $5B
Certainly not all of them. Edit - do you not consider Warren Buffet a conservative investor?
mssundaram··on Why programmers don’t write documentation
I like your version of Foo and Bar - Fribblers and Borgles
mssundaram··on Coffee drinkers display a distinct pattern of brain functional connectivity
I think that they're pretty directly related, though maybe that's because I associate the smell with the resultant feeling of being caffeinated. However, I do recall smelling coffee brewing that both did not smell good and then did not taste good either.
mssundaram··on Want to Learn Programming and Microcontrollers?
> Keep in mind (I think) that it's increasingly difficult to pull off a full career of any kind of programming.

Can you expound on that?

mssundaram··on Vegan cheese has quietly but steadily infiltrated mainstream supermarket shelves
I'm tired of this laziness. I don't care about vegan cheese - I am vegan because it's better for me, the planet, and animals. Boohoo if I can't find some cheese that tastes exactly like cultured milk from a suffering animal.
mssundaram··on Why we switched from Webpack to Vite
Looks like you may be shadow banned - I vouched for this comment and see all your recent previous comments are dead
mssundaram··on Mystery Pineapple in an Ancient Mosaic
Pineapples get successively smaller each harvest. But commercial growers don't sell them so you're used to only seeing one size if you don't live in a country that grows them. I have harvested pineapples as small as an apple.
mssundaram··on Farming robot kills 100k weeds per hour with lasers
> We can make monocrop farming more efficient and environmentally friendly (eliminate pesticides)

More efficient and environmentally friendly are contradictory in terms of monocrop

> Fanatical monocropists don't exist.

Uh what? What about the almost 100 million acres of corn in the US?

mssundaram··on Farming robot kills 100k weeds per hour with lasers
> Yeah, this robot is an example of tech being utilized to extract value. The ML, CV, and robotic tech tickles my inner geek, but tech was not designed or deployed in a regenerative way. There are many things we can do to have more resilient, restorative, regenerative agriculture ... that often don't involve much high tech at all.

I have this struggle often. Before software engineering, I was working on permaculture farms and apprenticed as a natural builder (cob mostly).

mssundaram··on Farming robot kills 100k weeds per hour with lasers
That was my thought as well. Thanks for sharing the interesting article
mssundaram··on Easy and fast TypeScript validation library/macro
Thank you, I was looking for something like this!
mssundaram··on Ask HN: What is your favorite daily-use object?
> I find myself missing lousy office coffee

What do you miss about it? It sounds very contradictory :)

mssundaram··on Ask HN: Easiest way to get a modern IDE with Vim style key bindings
Tell him about coc.vim - it uses the same language server plugins that VS Code uses so jump to definition, hover etc are all possible. Coc.vim is really popular and becoming quite robust and easy to set up. There's no need for VS Code with it.

I use it and develop in Typescript, TSX, etc. I've never found it lacking when compared to VS Code

mssundaram··on Human-monkey chimera embryos created in lab
> Clusters of cells can't be 'tortured in a lab,'

From a Hindu perspective, consciousness begins associating with the body at the moment of conception. Though it does not fully inhabit it yet.
