mssundaram··on Massachusetts health notifications app installed without users’ knowledge
Under any circumstances it is nefarious. Please allow me into your home and let me put up a painting of my choosing.

I'm reading your reply in Ben Shapiro's voice
mssundaram··on A Timeline of CIA Atrocities (1993)
What will the updated timeline look like?
mssundaram··on Ask HN: How do you deal with the fear of death?
The body dies but the soul does not. Death is easeful, like walking through a doorway. Our soul goes into the inner dimensions until we are born again in a new body. This goes on and on until awareness realizes itself and we merge back into God. This is a way of describing the Saivite Hindu perspective.
mssundaram··on Bye Bye Travis CI
> Services come and go.

I've been thinking about this over the past year. To be a software company and last more than five years you seem to need to either have very high buy in (e.g. health tech, as health systems move very slowly and would be reluctant to leave your platform after migrating) or diversify - Github is eating Travis and Circle now.

mssundaram··on Linux on Chromebooks just might get me through a masters in computer science
Heh heh, I came to say the same - my first professional development job was on an Acer C720 for which I had barely enough money to buy from my restaurant job.

> Cryptocurrencies must be stopped, there is absolutely NO benefit to having them.

I don't think that they're perfect, or that they're good for everything, but your statement is hyperbolic.

mssundaram··on As religious faith has declined, ideological intensity has risen
I am biased as a Hindu but I find that Hinduism stands apart here as a religion in that the emphasis is on one's own and the truths discovered therefrom rather than blindly accepting beliefs.

mssundaram··on Tips for Interviewing over Zoom
I think you're seeing what I meant backwards - I prefer mic over mike
mssundaram··on Tips for Interviewing over Zoom
The number of instances of mike instead of mic in this thread is really getting to my pedantic side.
mssundaram··on Tips for Interviewing over Zoom
I agree, however not always possible
mssundaram··on The modern web on a slow connection (2017)
I think the same thing whenever I pair with my colleagues
mssundaram··on The modern web on a slow connection (2017)
Probably a breach of contract but maybe you could have convinced your neighbors to share their connection
mssundaram··on Ancient Indigenous forest gardens still yield bounty 150 years later
It's not quite the same, but there is a lot of renewed interest of similar farming styles under the names of permaculture and agroforestry
mssundaram··on “Tank Man”
Since your other comment here [1] got flagged and dead I can't reply to it, so I am replying here. I just wanted to say thanks for sharing here on Hacker News - glad that there are those here who stand up for the truth - very much ironic (in an Alanis way) that it would be on this very thread.

mssundaram··on There are no results for tank man
For what it's worth Kragen, if you ever see this, I understand what you mean and I don't think that you're being racist. We can't even talk about the diversity of humans and what influences their intentions anymore without being called racist.

mssundaram··on Apple asks staff to return to office 3 days a week starting in early September
I don't see how it is toxic, no. It saves me from toxicity in fact. I get to live more freely and happily knowing my role clearly.
mssundaram··on Apple asks staff to return to office 3 days a week starting in early September
Have you ever been fired from your family? For some that analogy has happened, but for most people it's an exception, but for a job it's a much more real possibility. I'm a mercenary at my job. No allegiance but to my interests, because the leadership and shareholders have the same perspective
mssundaram··on Stack Overflow sold to Prosus for $1.8B
Yeah I've very often had something of substance to contribute but lacked the "merit" (or points or whatever). I wonder how common that is and how it could be handled - i.e. differentiating against spam
mssundaram··on Stack Overflow sold to Prosus for $1.8B
Interesting. I've hardly heard of any of those companies - are they mostly non-US?
mssundaram··on Pesticides are killing the world's soils
When we first started using pesticides we didn't understand the long term implications. How can you be so confident that you understand the long term implications of an arguably much more complex application (genetic vs chemical)?
mssundaram··on Pesticides are killing the world's soils
False dichotomy
mssundaram··on So, You Want to Become a Digital Nomad
It seems odd to call someone who works remotely within the US a digital nomad. At least I've only ever heard it in the context of someone traveling to countries that are more affordable to live that lifestyle than the US, such as Vietnam.
mssundaram··on WebContainers: Run Node.js natively in the browser
Have you not heard of WASM? And while it's not exactly what you're asking for, what about Typescript?
mssundaram··on 100 Largest Landowners in America
In my experience it not that the latest generations aren't interested, it is that there isn't much available, and what is available is not in an interesting location or is too expensive.
mssundaram··on China increases spending 500% to influence America
I'm confused - are you saying it's propaganda to go against the wet market theory? Because the wet market theory is so childish - like saying the sun goes to sleep at night.
mssundaram··on China increases spending 500% to influence America
Interesting that potential calls of Russian influence are to distract or deflect from Chinese influence.
