mrwrong··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
and the corollary is of course that saying something doesn't make it true
mrwrong··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
I'm not sure many people will believe you saying that
mrwrong··on Trump says Venezuela’s Maduro captured after strikes
> "Sovereign head of state" tortured, "disappeared", and murdered thousands, and rigged elections.

can't wait for someone to kidnap trump as well

mrwrong··on The future of software development is software developers
sure but my point is people could agree they were faster at least. that is decidedly not true for LLMs. maybe due to alignable vs non-alignable differences
mrwrong··on OpenAI's cash burn will be one of the big bubble questions of 2026

mrwrong··on OpenAI's cash burn will be one of the big bubble questions of 2026
and those stories were in the short run correct, since Amazon and Uber succeeded by massively undercutting existing businesses. reel customers in with charity, then turn the screws. what business is ChatGPT undercutting?
mrwrong··on The future of software development is software developers
yes, it is trivially true that each new person who recommends LLMs is a new person coming into the fold
mrwrong··on The future of software development is software developers
who would I be trying to trick if it was? you didn't answer the question anyways. I'm not wondering whether cars were seen as strictly better than horses in all situations. I'm wondering if people disagreed so vehemently about whether cars were faster road transportation than horses
mrwrong··on The future of software development is software developers
yeah I agree about the negative externalities but I'm curious about the perceived benefits. did anybody argue that cars were actually slower than horse and carriage? (were they at first?)

> The variance is great

this strikes me as a very important thing to reflect on. when the automobile was invented, was the apparent benefit so incredibly variable?

mrwrong··on The future of software development is software developers
agreed. we should instead be sneering at the AI critics because "you're holding it wrong"
mrwrong··on Rob Pike goes nuclear over GenAI
um, no it's not. you have fallen into the classic web forum trap of analyzing a heterogenous mix of people with inconsistent views as one entity that should have consistent views
mrwrong··on Rob Pike goes nuclear over GenAI
you are saying X, but a completely different group of people didn't say Y that other time! I got you!!!!

do you get scared when you hear other ghost stories too?

> But the claim for LLMs are next token predictors is the SAME mischaracterization. LLMs are clearly more than next token predictors. Don’t get me wrong LLMs aren’t human… but they are clearly more than just a next token predictor.

it's simply not. I find this argument by analogy very lazy. you need to do the work to show what that "and more" is and how it's the same for humans and LLMs. you can't just hand wave that it feels the same and leave it at that

I am not. I'm sorry you feel this way about yourself. you are more than a next token predictor

mrwrong··on Reflections on AI at the End of 2025
X has a pasta dish is an easily verifiable factual claim. the pasta dish at X tastes good and is worth the money is a subjective claim, unverifiable without agreeing on a metric for taste and taking measurements. they are two very different kinds of disagreements
