mrspandex··on Poll: What online music service do you use most frequently?
Where is Amazon MP3?
mrspandex··on Poll: Do you use Opera (the browser)?
Subjectively, Opera manages a large number of tabs much better for me than FF, and has a much nicer UI than Chrome. They seem to do a lot of innovation in browser UI and features, which the other browsers eventually copy (not that there's anything wrong with that).

I really wish it had more marketshare so it would be better supported, but 95% of websites and features work without issue.

mrspandex··on HTML5 Fullscreen Video
Surprisingly, this also works in Opera

mrspandex··on Incorrect Core Java Interview Answers
Correct. The reference itself is passed by value, though, so assigning a new object to that variable would not affect the caller.

Most of these "wrong" answers are only guilty of not being explicit enough to be a page long.

mrspandex··on Google Prediction API - Google Code
It's not quite clear to me what this actually does. How does training work? Do I give it input and actual decisions so that it can decide based on trends or is it more of a fuzzy match to known data?
mrspandex··on Nginx established as a company
I would guess a large portion of those are devs who are running windows but deploying to linux servers. Think php or java - that is a common use case in those circles.
mrspandex··on PuTTY 0.61 released
I just downloaded this tool and it is incredible. Thank you for the suggestion!
mrspandex··on Unhappy Security Dialogs
How many people will know to go and rate their downloads after using them enough to have an informed opinion? I'd almost rather the person who ran the site certified software rather than crowdsourcing it.
mrspandex··on YouTube Unveils Slick Experimental Redesign, Codenamed Cosmic Panda
I actually wrote a custom stylesheet to hide the comments section. I wonder if this update means I have to change it :)
mrspandex··on Turntable.fm raising $5-10 M. at $40 M. Valuation
Aren't they licensing all that content? I imagine they wouldn't be sued for what they were attempting to do, but for what users are capable of exploiting.
mrspandex··on Google to Retire Blogger & Picasa Brands in Google+ Push
When I hear Blogger, I think spam.
mrspandex··on Google+ For iOS Awaiting App Store Approval
By "platform owners," you mean Apple, right? I'm not aware of Android requiring any approval.
mrspandex··on CoderBuddy, Napster investor's free Web IDE for Python & sites on App Engine
I was contemplating writing a site for appengine/python so I immediately jumped at trying this out. My biggest concern was that I wanted to be able to download the code when I was done, so I was glad to see it was an option to do just that. My ideal would be making that a git repository I could push or pull from. I also tried to use the site in Opera. I understand it's probably not common, but both editors seem to be broken. I think it would be a really good idea for this IDE to optionally integrate with webapp and hide away some of the framework-specific boilerplate behind slick interfaces.
mrspandex··on Show HN: Give gifts with a twist
I love the playful style of the whole thing.
mrspandex··on Google Reveals Its Stealth Social Project, Google+
Although the feature is not as advanced as circles, you can make wall posts on Facebook visible to only certain groups of friends. Google+ forces you to pick a circle (or everyone), rather than just defaulting to everyone.
mrspandex··on Ask HN: What documentaries are worth watching?
I recently saw Something Ventured, which is a very entertaining documentary about early silicon valley venture capitalists. http://www.somethingventuredthemovie.com/
mrspandex··on Top ISPs Poised to Adopt Graduated Response to Piracy
I do agree that piracy is a societal problem, but the "buying needs to be simpler than piracy" argument is crap. Look at music - I can buy any album I can think of on Amazon with one click. The problem is that people don't want to pay money for what they can get for free and they don't feel shame in pirating it.
mrspandex··on Understanding the corporate impact (of upgrading Firefox)
> Why is IE8 still around?

On XP, you can't upgrade to IE9. The question that naturally follows is: Why is XP still around?

mrspandex··on Business must report data breaches to public, EU says
In the US, software regulated under HIPAA must report many breaches through a public website. I know my company is extremely serious about preventing breaches, and I would not be surprised if this law would make companies take things more seriously. Of course, there may be too many breaches for it to have any consequence.
mrspandex··on Eclipse Indigo is here
Perhaps Eclipse developers should take this opportunity to try IntelliJ if you haven't. I switched 2 years ago and I can never go back.

Not directly related, but this is a great site to peruse. Great code examples and a great perspective on database performance.

mrspandex··on No one wants to pay for anything they access via a computer
I definitely notice this among my friends, many of which are recently graduated students. Piracy was rampant when they had no money and that attitude has not changed now that they could easily afford what they are pirating.

mrspandex··on Google Apps dropping support for older browsers
I did notice they did not say they were dropping Opera support. I think it's reasonable for them to not spend a large amount of time fixing minor bugs for a browser with 2% market share.

Isn't this the point of web standards? Things should generally "just work" in Opera if they work in those other modern browsers.
