We've been working on this for 1.5 years and we had to write completely custom tech to make it happen.
We're happy to answer any questions about our tech
We are somewhat concerned about getting sherlocked, but I have no idea what to do about that other than push on!
About a year ago we submitted an app to the App Store that uses the same USB tech (PeerTalk), we wanted to see if Apple would allow it (we didn't want to build a business around something that could change on a whim). If it was allowed that would have changed the entire direction of our development. An Apple rep called us and informed as that USB access is not allowed.
With this in mind we went ahead with using WiFi, which has been HARD and time consuming. Now Apple all of a sudden allows USB access, what?!
How does Apple expect people to build serious apps when the ground is shifting beneath our feet?
Anyway.. I should write a post with more details.
This calculator takes into account more, like housing, food etc: http://www.bestplaces.net/col/?salary=107798%20&city1=50...
"A salary of $107,798 in San Francisco, California could decrease to $56,716 in Minneapolis, Minnesota"
Which is much more in line with my personal experience having worked in both Silicon Valley and Minneapolis.
If you're a good engineer, it is not uncommon to pull down 107k or more in Minneapolis as well.
Much of the power of Smalltalk comes from the environment. It is pretty amazing how even now parts of Smalltalk are more sophisticated than todays programming tools.
If you are a pilot be sure to check out Pilot My-Cast, which is what I work on. The iPad is incredible for pilots, for far too long they've had to put with complex and arcane UI. We are working on changing that here at Digital Cyclone.
I work on that app along with a small team here at Garmin and were are really proud of what we've done. We are passionate about making great apps and I think Pilot My-Cast really shows that.

It follows a team of engineers at Data General around 1980 as they race to build a new computer under incredible pressure. It's an incredible story and anyone who has worked on a tightly knit team under high pressure will relate.
2) The Pragmatic Programmer
However if you're going to be seeking VC then it probably makes sense to incorporate in Delaware. However if you're like me and bootstrapping it, there is no need to go with a Delaware Corp.
In fact that's not much different than many existing cross platform applications that have a platform agnostic core with a layer of platform specific UI code on top.
